ORGANIZATION CHART BACKGROUND MISSION To conduct worldclass research in niche areas and elevate the international reputation and world university ranking of the university. linkage with ivyleague universities and conduct collaborative research with academic icons, including Nobel Laureates Recognizing the importance of UM as a premier research institution in the country, the Ministry Education (MoE) Malaysia in August Forge 2011 injected linkages with successful RM590 million into Malaysian the UM-MoE HIR scientists overseas programme with the mandate that UM must break into Set the top 100 QS World up a Central University Rankings Core Facility housing cutting by 2015. In 2010, UM was edge equipment placed 207 under the QS for use by UM as well as other local World University Ranking universities but in 2011, UM leapt 40 positions to be ranked 167, and went up another 11 spots to 156 in 2012. To promote multidisciplinary research and research collaboration with local and overseas universities which can result in publications in high impact To accomplish its vision journals. and mission, HIR will strive to : OBJECTIVE Attract top notch postgraduate students to do research and help meet national needs Target publications in top Tier 1 ISI/ WoS journals, including Nature and Science Work with industry partners to train young scientists in enhancing research skills Identify new and advancing research fronts and implement new technologies into research FUNDED PROJECTS Currently, UM HIR is supported by the UM Chancellory Grant of RM10 million per year as well as the special allocation of RM590 million from MoE until 2015.
