Welcome players, officials, sponsors and supporters to A.J. Kelly Park.
Welcome players, officials, sponsors and supporters to A.J. Kelly Park. Hello and welcome to Peninsula Power for today’s games in the Trophy Superstore Brisbane Premier League. Our visitors this weekend are Wolves FC. Welcome to committee, players and supporters. Also a special welcome to our Power SSF players, parents, coaches and managers. Well if you were at last weeks top of the table clash you would have seen a gutsy performance by our team who were reduced to nine players. The disappointing part was not the loss because both teams gave their all but the control of the match was poor. This was not just my opinion but many spectators and officials of both teams who watched all the events unfold. Congratulations to Lions on their win and also making the final 32 of the FFA Cup. Tonight we need to refocus on the visit of Wolves FC. With several players out today some of our squad players will be given the opportunity to start top team and hopefully they will take the opportunity with both hands. I would like to thank all the Power Old Boys who travelled to Cairns on the long weekend and won the Cairns Masters Football Tournament. The photo and names are below and we played 6 games in three days and defeated Cairns Rangers in the Grand Final. The team was made up of players from our club, Sunshine Coast and Lions Masters players. The new change rooms are progressing well and on track to be available in August this season. The Management Committee has been very busy with a wide range of issues being addressed at the moment. I would again like to thank the efforts of all our volunteers in these positions and the sub committee volunteers for their dedication and commitment to the club. Welcome to Pauly TV for today’s game. With a great highlights package available after the match www.paulytv.com.au. I Good luck to all the teams playing this weekend and enjoy your football here at Jock Kelly Park. Enjoy the matches at Power! Craig Feuerriegel PRESIDENT C Peninsula Power players, John Auld, Steve Jones, Mark Noble, Tony English, Danny English, Shane Zohs and Craig Feuerriegel 1 Coaches Corner with Terry Kirkham Welcome everyone from Wolves Fc and all of the Power faithful to today's matches here are AJ Kelly Park. A very frustrating past month of football for our first team and really the way it's worked out with 2 drawers and a very unfortunate loss to Lions last week the results have really cost us top position in the league the way I look at. From a ladder standing point of view our past results have been disappointing but the team’s efforts have really been very good and that's just how it goes. Today we expect another difficult task. We are missing Shaun Feuerriegel for the next two games, Michael McEvoy for three games, both suspended as well as Zac Burns who is out injured. Steven Cleary has re signed but is not available this week. Our focus is now to remain in the top four and aim at a finals tilt. We hope to collect three points here today and the finals positions are now just a matter of math’s and collecting three points today and over the next few weeks. I hope you enjoy all of the games here today/tonight and good luck to all players and officials involved in the game of football this weekend. To our fantastic sponsors and committee, thank you for your support towards the team from all the coaching staff. Thanks again to all our sponsors for their great support of the club. Some big results, some big upsets and some very controversial moments. Lions stay top and UQFC stay bottom but lots of other things have changed... Logan FC were unable to follow up their solid performance against Lions FC last weekend when they capitulated 4-1 to Ipswich Knights at Cornubia Park in a game they were expected to win comfortably. Jake Oakshott went from penthouse to pavement with three howlers in the first half and after being substituted his replacement, Brad Stout, was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity which leaves Nick Croyden with something of a conundrum. Devon Munn, Lucas Wilson, Taiga Ishikura and Mitch Davis were the scorers for the Knights whilst Miche’le Lipari stayed top of the Golden Boot race with another goal for the Lightning. Capalaba gained an absolutely essential victory in their quest to avoid relegation through the Club Championship when they beat Albany Creek 2-0 at Wolter Park. A three minute burst was enough to secure the points with Josh Sherwood converting a penalty in the 71st minute and player of the match Yuji Hirayama scoring in the 74th minute. The game never reached any great heights but it was worth noting that Creek were particularly below standard and any hopes of making the top four are gone barring a miracle. Mitchelton are confirmed as sitting in second place with all the relevant catch-up games having been played thanks to a 2-0 win over Wolves FC at Teralba Park. Seb Jansen scored early in the game and the Mustangs never looked likely to lose. Paul Mikula scored the second just after the hour mark. It was his sixth of the season which is a fine return for a centre-back. Despite the scoreline, it’s not too bad a result for Wolves as they set their sights on staying in next years’s Trophy Superstore Premier League. Mitchelton need luck on their side if they are to catch Lions but they 5 have put themselves in good position nonetheless. It was the 60th Anniversary of the University of Queensland Football Club and UQFC made it a rip-roaring success, banging in a goal for every decade when they thrashed local rivals Taringa Rovers 6-0 at Oval 5a. Keiichi Ueda was the hero of the day with his hat trick but goals were also scored by Captain Chris Watts, new signing Nick Efstathis and a very special long range effort from Jeremy Griffin. If they can keep up that form the league will be better for their competitiveness.. It’s not the first time Taringa have been beaten heavily this year and for some strange reason they seem to play better against the higher placed teams. Once again though, the real issue is in the Club Championship. Eastern Suburbs achieved their sixth victory in seven games and made a very important statement when they beat Rochedale Rovers 3-1 at Heath Park. Michael Ryan found the net first, in the 39th minute but a 72nd minute equaliser from Mustafa Jafari had the potential to ruin the Tigers afternoon. It wasn’t to be however as Daniel Cunha put his side back into the lead and Alejandro Porras Martorell drove the final nail into the coffin with his debut goal in the 95th minute. In the final game of the weekend, it was action aplenty when Lions FC beat Peninsula Power 3-1 at Lions Stadium. Shaun Feuerriegel put Power in front in the sixteenth minute but Andre Bonotto scored a hat trick, including two penalties, which secured the points for Lions. But there were other incidents which grabbed the headlines. Michael McEvoy was sent off for violent conduct after a challenge on Kado Aoci which saw the prolific striker stretchered off with concussion. Two minutes later, Shoheel Khan was also red-carded for abusive language and in the 51st minute Shaun Feuerriegel was dismissed for the same offence. Feuerriegel is suspended for two games with McEvoy and Khan suspended for three. Match Previews Round 15 by Phil Davis Peninsula Power vs Wolves FC Saturday 5pm AJ Kelly Field Last weekend was a bit of a disaster for Peninsula with two of their most influential players, Shaun Feuerriegel and Michael McEvoy, red carded and suspended for two matches. It’s not great timing because they have just been knocked out of second spot for the first time in ages by Mitchelton. The test is just how this result will affect them mentally and if they can get straight back onto the bike. Seventh on the ladder and good enough to suggest that last weekend’s loss to Mitchelton wasn’t too bad a result. And they can probably learn from it because playing against better teams is the way to improve. Every little but helps in the battle to escape relegation through the Club Championship and upsets could be the key. They have a chance of winning this is they play well. This game will be closer than the ladder suggests with suspensions hurting the home team. Prediction: 2-2 Draw Capalaba vs UQFC Saturday 6pm John Fredricks Park Capalaba finally broke through for a long awaited win last weekend when Josh Sherwood and Yuji Hirayama scored goals on the way to a vital win over Albany Creek. And it really was vital because they moved out of relegation trouble again. The rest of the season is likely to be a huge battle against Wolves to stay in the top-flight so they really, absolutely MUST beat the Students this weekend. 6 UQFC have been threatening to show some form for and they did it last week in some style with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Inner West rivals, Taringa Rovers. Can they keep it up this weekend? It will be hard to follow up with another similar result of course, but it’s amazing how sometimes confidence can inflate after such a result. It can go the other way as well which is the story of their season. Crucial game for Capalaba...the most important of the season so far by some way. Will that help them or hinder them? Prediction: UQFC 2-1 Rochedale Rovers vs Logan FC Saturday 6pm Underwood Park Rochedale are heading towards disaster at the moment. They could finish lower than they did last season if things don’t turn around and it’s impossible to figure out what is going wrong with a squad list the equal of any. Last weekend they lost to Eastern Suburbs who are a good team but there shouldn’t be any excuses anyway. This week is the derby so it doesn’t get any easier. Has their been a bigger turnaround in form in a single week this season than Logan FC nearly beating Lions then getting beaten 4-1 by Ipswich Knights? Probably, but it’s worth taking note of anyway. Everything went against them last week which is fair enough but generally it won’t see a team lose by quite that much. I suspect they will be much better this week and this is the premier derby at the moment. I said this in the first derby but these teams really don’t like each other very much. The team which plays better will win and it could be something of an upset. Prediction: Rovers 2-1 Ipswich Knights vs Albany Creek Sunday 3:15pm Eric Evans Oval It’s fair to say that everyone has pretty much written off Ipswich Knights with their injuries and long run of bad form but last weekend’s surprise win could see them get back on track. It’s good for the league because it wasn’t quite the same whilst they weren’t very good. Determination has been their hallmark...backs to the wall when necessary and good goals at the right time. They can win this. Just when they start to find second gear, when they are brimming with confidence and playing some quality football Albany Creek produce one of their worst performances of the entire season last weekend in the 2-0 loss to Capalaba. It’s a head-scratcher for sure but they should be good enough to get back out of the slump. Everyone plays bad sometimes, let’s hope it isn’t permanent. Really tough one to call this. Both teams have the ability to win the game but a lack of goals could be their downfall. One goal will make the difference. Prediction: ACE 2-1 Taringa Rovers vs Mitchelton 4pm Sunday Jack Speare Park It’s a running theme this week with all the upsets but the biggest losers out of the last round of football was definitely Taringa Rovers having been thrashed 6-0 by UQFC, the bottom team on the ladder. They’ve walked a tightrope this season with minimal assets and a result like that could really get inside their heads. Of course, they tend to play better against better teams so don’t write them off completely. Mitchelton are into second place on the ladder and although the title is out of reach barring a miracle, they are everyone’s favourite to eventually make the Grand Final if they can get their whole team back onto the park. Don’t forget though, that they have plenty of talent still on the park and are sill winning regularly. They love to attack and an early goal or two could see theme overwhelm their opposition this week. We’ve had lots of upsets recently and a win for Taringa would be another one. There won’t be because Mitchelton have too many big guns. Prediction: Mitchelton 3-0 7 Lions FC vs Easts FC 4:15pm Sunday Lions Stadium Lions are nothing if not action-packed and last weekend’s victory over Peninsula just adds to the legend. Three red cards, two penalties...it was an incredible game but of course the drawback is that Shoheel Khan is suspended for three matches. Can it last forever? Who knows and who cares, it’s just great to follow. But they have ridden their luck a few times and eventually it will fail them. It happens to everyone. Five wins in a row and then they lost to Mitchelton. Questions were asked about their staying power so they came out last weekend and scored an excellent win over Rochedale Rovers. And they’ll be licking their lips this week because they have the best record at Lions Stadium and that confidence will take them a long way. It’s funny how historical facts tend to count even though it doesn’t make sense. UPSET OF THE WEEK! I know I keep tipping the upset against Lions but they have to lose eventually. Easts have turned the corner, will be at full strength and love playing on Lions Stadium. Prediction: Easts 1-0 2015 NPL Women HOME GAMES at A.J. The past month as coaches we are really please with the players attitude and team performance. They are now playing for the full 90 minutes and the defence has been excellent. The key for us coaches, is the improvement of all the players as individuals and now showing the determination to win games. With this, the results have turned around and are now positive, two wins and a draw against top 4 teams. The team effort last Sunday v lions may have been the best effort this squad has put together this season. I don't think there was a player who was not dead tired with the huge effort we put in to draw 1-1 and believe we were unlucky not to win. They may have had more possession but we defended very well and our counter attack was excellent. With our past 3 results coming against teams who are or were in the top 4, this weekend we host Brisbane Wolves and require the squad to step up another gear, to give us a chance to get us closer to the top 4. We need team to to keep improving on our performance and structure. Coaches Gordon Tulloch & Lee Cunningham Manager Ged McCluskie Junior SYL teams U15 SYL The past two weekends positive results keep them in the top 4. Last week down 0-2 v Souths to come back and win 3-2 showed the character in the team and determination to compete against to top teams 10 team their league. This past weekend 3-0 win vs Lions, has opened the gap between 4th and 5th place. The results were at a time when key players were away unable to play, showing the depth in the team. U14 SYL Continue to improve and train well, since winning 2-1 vs Rochedale who were the league leaders and were undefeated, have further stumbled with two draws, and the Power team has gone onto win both their games against Souths and Lions. To put our U14s on top of the ladder, this weekend looking for another improved performance against wolves, Areas for the team to work on is their communication, or lack of communication to improve, for the teams position, there is no problem for this squad to make the top 4. Everything they do now is to improve their performance and structure towards the finals. We also need all the individuals within the squad to improve themselves, so the team does not drop its intensity when making substitutions. U13 SYL This squad is work in progress the players have not yet stepped up to the plate and dug in to battle out a win. When teams are struggling to perform, the players need to take some responsibility to work hard on their own individual skills, their team training sessions and transfer this into their game play. This weekend would encourage the players to put in their best performance and reduce their mistakes. I believe what you put in is what you get out in return, they need to make things happen on the field and make their own luck. U12 Division 1 This team has lost its past two games but remains in contention for SYL promotion. Some of the other higher place teams have also lost games and it remains close. The coach and the players are going very well and will be looking to finish the season strong. Our Dalton Park ground generally hosts matches every Friday night, Saturday and Sunday Morning (often running into early afternoon) and I would like to pay tribute to the Junior Committee and other volunteers who give so selflessly of their time to ensure that all of the necessary processes are completed so that these games can be played. A special mention to Sandy and Peter Burrell for all of the excellent work that they do to assist the Juniors, as well as providing valuable support to the Seniors with managing teams and organising for some of our Juniors to participate on Senior match days at AJ Kelly Park. I also want to share my appreciation and admiration for the work that is done by Gordon Tulloch (Junior Technical Director), Greg Martin (Junior Divisional DoC), Paul Dymock (SSF DoC) and all of the coaches and managers of our Juniors, from PeeWees through to u16s. I hope that they feel the same sense of pride that I feel when watching the teams go around in the Peninsula Power jersey and that they realise that it is substantially through their efforts that the kids in our community get to experience the joy of playing football. I encourage all of our members to also express their appreciation to these individuals when when they next say hi to them. Finally I want to wish all of our teams at Power (including those in the Mens and Womens Divisions) the very best for their round of fixtures this weekend and for the remainder of the season. 14 15 Premier League POS TEAM Premier League Reserves P W D L F A GD PTS POS 1 Lions FC 14 11 3 0 39 10 29 36 1 Eastern Suburbs 14 11 2 1 41 14 27 35 2 Mitchelton 14 8 4 2 34 19 15 28 2 Lions FC 14 8 3 3 31 10 21 27 3 Peninsula Power 14 8 4 2 27 20 7 28 3 Capalaba 13 4 7 2 27 20 7 19 4 Logan Lightning 14 6 6 2 32 24 8 24 4 Peninsula Power 13 6 1 6 25 31 -6 19 5 Eastern Suburbs 14 7 1 6 24 20 4 22 5 Mitchelton 14 5 3 6 30 32 -2 18 6 Albany Creek 14 5 3 6 27 24 3 18 6 Taringa Rovers 13 5 3 5 27 29 -2 18 7 Wolves FC 14 5 1 8 20 27 -7 16 7 UQ FC 14 5 2 7 41 37 4 17 8 Ipswich Knights 13 5 1 7 18 30 -12 16 8 Albany Creek 13 5 2 6 22 30 -8 17 9 Rochedale Rovers 14 4 2 8 19 23 -4 14 9 Ipswich Knights 13 5 0 8 24 35 -11 15 10 Capalaba 13 3 2 8 21 27 -6 11 10 Wolves FC 14 4 3 7 18 32 -14 15 11 Taringa Rovers 14 2 5 7 14 35 -21 11 11 Logan Lightning 14 4 2 8 23 31 -8 14 12 UQ FC 14 2 2 10 23 39 -16 12 Rochedale Rovers 13 4 2 7 22 30 -8 14 8 Premier League Under 18 POS TEAM TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS Premier League Under 16 POS TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Logan Lightning 14 13 0 1 55 10 45 39 2 Lions FC 12 11 1 0 56 3 53 34 3 Rochedale Rovers 13 9 2 2 43 17 26 29 4 Peninsula Power 14 8 1 5 38 22 16 25 5 UQ FC 14 8 1 5 30 35 -5 25 6 Eastern Suburbs 14 7 3 4 25 20 5 24 7 Albany Creek 14 8 0 6 21 22 -1 24 8 Capalaba 14 4 1 9 23 45 -22 13 9 Wolves FC 12 3 0 9 12 34 -22 9 10 Mitchelton 13 2 0 11 23 50 -27 6 11 Ipswich Knights 13 2 0 11 15 44 -29 6 12 Taringa Rovers 13 0 1 12 4 43 -39 1 P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Logan Lightning 14 11 1 2 49 19 30 34 2 UQ FC 14 10 1 3 49 27 22 31 3 Lions FC 13 7 3 3 36 18 18 24 4 Eastern Suburbs 14 7 2 5 24 20 4 23 5 Rochedale 12 7 2 3 26 24 2 23 6 Peninsula Power 13 6 3 4 33 24 9 21 7 Ipswich Knights 14 6 1 7 24 26 -2 19 8 Albany Creek 14 4 2 8 21 34 -13 14 9 Taringa Rovers 13 4 2 7 19 38 -19 14 10 Capalaba 14 3 4 7 22 33 -11 13 11 Mitchelton 13 2 1 10 19 40 -21 7 12 Wolves FC 12 2 0 10 20 39 -19 6 16
