Network of Sicilian Tourist Ports
ROP SICILIA
Network
of
Sicilian
The main nodes of the network will be the three major harbours (HUB harbours):
● Marsala for connections towards the West and the African coasts,
● Milazzo for flows to and from the North,
● Ragusa, as transit towards Malta, Greece and the Oriental Mediterranean coasts.
Tourist Ports
S
icily strategically positioned between the North of the Mediterranean and the African coasts. The presence of an efficient port network able to provide quality services to pleasure boats will enable Sicily to intercept the tourist flows across the Mediterranean.
The network of ports will allow yachts to circumnavigate the island in assisted stages with a maximum length of
approximately thirty nautical miles.

From the harbour of Milazzo it is easy to reach the Eolie Islands thanks
to the new tourist harbour on the island of Salina
The location of HUB harbours was decided, not only on geographical ground but also taking into consideration the
availability of larger areas which could be devoted to shipyard activities. HUB harbours contain all the necessary infrastructure for complete craft assistance.
A series of interventions aimed at the opening of a few tourist landings had already been started with Community
funds from the 1994-1999 programme. These activities included; the tourist port of S. Marina di Salina in the Eolie
Islands, commencement of construction of the tourist port of Balestrate in the area of Palermo, the overhaul of some parts of the tourist docks in the harbour at Milazzo.
The European funds assigned to Sicily for the 2000-2006 programme and the subsequent completion of various projects will allow the network to be activated.

Each project plans facilities for the treatment of bilge water and sewerage from boats. The facilities are complete with a suction hose and a centrifuge pump with ejector, a total depuration and oxidation facility, prior separation of mineral oils and systems for separate collection of solid waste produced within the harbour.
