Hospice is usually for people in the last 6 month of their life (the end stage of any life limiting illness or condition). The purpose of hospice is to improve or maintain
the person’s quality of life. Clients can live at home or in some assisted living facilities and do NOT have to be bed-ridden. In many programs, the client can keep
their own doctor(s) or use one associated with hospice. Nursing care, CNA care, durable medical supplies, and related medications are often covered by private
insurance, VA, and Medicare. A nurse is always on-call & can either provide assistance by phone or in person.

Judicial District 9 Guardian ad Litem program serves Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin
Counties. The NC Guardian ad Litem Program Is part of the NC Judicial branch. Created in
1983 under the Administrative Office of the Courts to make sure that the abuse and
neglect these children originally suffered was not compounded by the system created to
serve them.
A Guardian ad Litem is a trained community volunteer advocate who is paired with an
attorney advocate to ensure that the child’s rights and best interests are before the courts.
The GAL is appointed to represent the child only for the duration of the court’s
involvement and does not serve as the child’s legal guardian. The GAL serves as the child’s
voice in court. Training, support, and supervision are offered to assist volunteers as they
work to make a difference for children.
Duties include exploring all facts relevant to the case, making recommendations to the
court and monitoring the case so that it will move through the court and Social Services
systems without unnecessary delays. It is the sole task of GAL to focus on the best interest
of the child
Program offices are in Vance County and Franklin County courthouses. Volunteers are
needed.

We support adults and children with a variety of services including:
ICF/MR – Homes with six to eight residents that are staffed 24 hours a day for people who
may also have significant medical needs.
Periodic Services (CAP and State funded) – Employees assist for a few hours a day or a few
days a week to support individuals with specific needs in their own homes or in the
community.
CAP/Waiver Residential – Residential services for up to 24 hours a day, which include
assistance with daily living needs, job training, transportation and community involvement.
Alternative Family Living (AFL )- A host home or foster family for adults or children that
provides 24 hour care and assist with daily living needs, transportation and community
involvement.
Respite – Gives family members a break from care giving. Respite may be provided for a
few hours in your own home or can be provided overnight in an Alternative Family Living
home environment.
