Donna Compton on Defenders Logic: Figuring Out Who Has What
efenders have information available to them from the bidding, the opening lead, and
Declarer’s early plays in a bridge hand. Donna will help you make the logical inferences
that will help you figure out what Declarer is likely to have (in shape and high cards) as well
as what your partner must have, and could have, based on leads, signals, etc. Becoming a
better bridge detective will raise the level of your game!
Donna Compton began playing competitive bridge in 1975 and has national and international wins including
the 2003 Chicago Trophy Mixed Teams at the Long Beach Nationals, and the 2010 World Mixed Pairs in
Philadelphia. Donna was awarded the Journalist Defensive Hand of the Year in 2005 (in Estoril, Portugal).
She is a Master Teacher (American Bridge Teachers Association) and a retired ACBL tournament director,
as well as member of ACBL Goodwill Committee. Donna has traveled the world as non-playing captain of
several teams. Her team won the Gold Medal in the 2013 Senior Bowl in Bali and the Silver in the 2011
Senior Bowl in the Netherlands. In 2010, her team won the Silver Medal in the Rosenblum Cup in
Philadelphia. In 2009, her team won the Bermuda Bowl trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Club Director Course
o need to stand around waiting for
your results for the pairs game just
completed. You can now retrieve all
of the information via the Internet. If you
already have an email address registered with
the ACBL, you don’t have to do anything. If
your email address is not registered, you
simply send an email message to
[email protected] In the
subject line, type in your ACBL number. No
need to write anything in the message, just
click send! If you’d like to pre-enroll to
receive a link to your results via text
message, register your ACBL number and
last name to 312 800-1790.
When the session results are posted
(generally within 15-20 minutes all sections
conclusion), you will receive an email
notification. The email will contain links you
can click on that will take you directly to
your personal results, and the field’s results,
for that session. If you choose not to sign up
via email, but would like to view results for
that day, go online to
BridgeFinesse.com/FastResults/Riverside.
Click on the Event > Date > Session. At the
top of the screen you will see all the
masterpoint winners – if you scroll across
their names you will see their picture (if
available) and the approximate number of
MPs they have. You can scroll down to see
the summaries for all the sections that played
during that session.
If you wish to see the complete details for
you and your partner, click on the number
adjacent to your name – that will provide you
a detailed recap of all your results. If you
wish to review your results in a traditional
format, rather than clicking on the red
highlighted game, continue to the right and
click the N/S or E/W results as appropriate.
The results will also be displayed on the
tournament website, each night at

20 and 21, at the Town & Country Resort
Hotel, preceding the San Diego Regional.”
Well-known National Director Arleen
Harvey, our ACBL Field Supervisor, will
teach the popular course. The fee for the
course is $80.00 per person.
“We’d like at least 15 reservations by March
