Super Bowl Coordinator Diane Johnson with 2 of her sisters, Nancy & Barbara
“SUPER“, SUPER BOWL
by Diane Johnson
Once again the Lodge hosted a GREAT party
for the finale of the football season!
As expected, the atmosphere in the Grill
Room was electric as everyone joined in the fun of
rooting for their favorite team. There were Colt fans
and Bear fans and even a few lingering Giant fans.
Congratulations to the winners of the 50/50s,
the two bikes donated by G-Mart, Wurtsboro, New
York, and all the football souvenirs of shirts, hats,
etc.
Once again a great buffet was prepared and
served by Lou of Luigi’s Restaurant who, by the
way, donated all the pizzas for Monday Night Football all year. Thanks, Lou.
The Super bowl Party is not just one day of
preparation, but fourteen weeks of Monday Night
Football. That’s 14 Monday nights of food preparation, 50/50s, clean-up, etc. A GREAT BIG SUPER
THANK YOU to the “behind the scene” members:
Ed, Ro, Ed, Helen, Jay and, of course, our bartenders
for all their help and support.
Last but not least, thank you to all our members, guests and friends who made our Super Bowl
Party happen!
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!

EXALTED RULER’S MESSAGE
by Jim Byron
My Brothers & Sisters in Elkdom: As I write this,
my last Antler message, I would like to thank all of you for
allowing me the honor of being ER again. A lot of good
things were accomplished but there are a lot more to be
done. It was a pleasure working with Jim Byron. Jim has
worked his way through the chairs, attended officers trainings, Leading Knight classes and is a great guy and a true
gentleman. Please give him your support in every way.
Thank you to John Gartz and the entire dedicated
House Committee. You are such a vital part of our Lodge
and most people don’t understand all the hard work and
time you devote.
I don’t have enough space to thank everyone so to
all officers, committee chairpeople, committee members
and everyone who volunteer your time so generously,
Thank You!
Congratulations to Charlie Sherman, our new Inner
Guard. We now have a full slate of officers! Congratulations also go to Craig Veprek, PDD and Charlie Brady as
they are being recognized by the Pt. Pleasant Foundation
for Excellence in Education as Community Leader Award
Recipients. Our good wishes also extend to Dawn Boggio
Korbelak (whose father was a longtime Elk member) and
Lt. Michael Colwell (Past Citizen of the Year at Pt. Pleasant Lodge) for being the 2007 Hall of Fame Honorees.
Thank you to Colleen Castronova for the many
events you chaired this year and another wonderful ENF
Beach Party.

by Mary Skidmore
I can’t believe that my year is almost over,
just two months to go.
The winning ticket for our January 300 Club
drawing was ticket #209.
Our February Social was a covered dish dinner. Thank you to Nancy Carley for coordinating.
Our Social for March will be a pizza party
and candle demonstration. We need to know if you
will be attending so we know how many pizzas to
order. FREE PIZZA that night. Just bring money to
order candles.
We are not having a visitation this year because Toms River is the only other auxiliary in existence and they are not have a visitation.

A THANK YOU
To the Elks Family:
Thank you so very much for your generous
donation. Through this support, 15 Midget cheerleaders were able to compete in the National Pop
Warner competition and finish 3rd in the nation.
Because of your continued dedication to Pop Warner, these girls were able to realize their dream.
More importantly, you have given them a memory
that will last a lifetime.
The Pop Warner Association is very luvky
to count on your unending kindness. We are proud
to be part of the Pt. Pleasant Elks and even prouder
to wear your colors.

ELK OF THE MONTH
by Dru Kegreiss
BOB PURSEL, PER
Bob is a member of the House Committee, the Fluke Tournament Committee and the
Octoberfest Committee. Prior to these outdoor
events you will always find Bob power washing
the cooking equipment and doing all the odd jobs
necessary. He’s the guy who keeps the cooks on
the line supplied with refills and when needed he
will jump into the cooking line to help out. After
the events, you can find him back again taking
down tents, cleaning equipment and getting the
parking lot back in order. You will also find him
helping at the Special Children’s picnic and at
Friday Night dinner each week.
Bob is a good man to have around for all
these events!
Congratulations, Bob
by Greg Smith
SHE DID IT!!! Lauren Hughes, age 11 has
repeated her feat as N.J. State Hoop Shoot Champion.
On Sunday, February 11th at Woodbridge High
School, Lauren defended her State title in the girl’s 1011 age group by sinking 19 of 25 shots. The victory
now sends Lauren to the Northeast Regional Championship vs. the Pennsylvania and New York State
champs. This event is March 24th in Wilkesbarre, PA.
A win at the N.E. Regionals then would send her to the
National finals in Springfield, MA in April. Good
luck to Lauren from B.P.O.E. 1698.
At the State competition, there are 12 shooters
in each age group. After the first round of 10 shots
Lauren had 7 along with 2 other girls, Caroline Hill
from Ridgewood Lodge #1455 and Kellie Lane from
Ridgefield Park Lodge #1506. In the second round of
15 shots Kellie only hit 4 and Caroline hit 9 for a total
of 16 and the lead. Lauren needed to sink 10 of 15 for
the win. She hit the first 6 in a row, missed one, hit
one, missed one, hit one and was up to 15 total with 4
shots left. She sank the last four for a 19 and the victory. No one else was even close. Way to go!
This is now the 4th consecutive year the
Hughes twins have been State Chamions. Kelly won
at age 8 and 9, Lauren won at age 10 and now 11.
Next y ear they will be in the 12-13 age group and
hopefully one of the “Shootin’ sisters” will be back
with a fifth State title. Did someone say Dynasty?
Congratulations to Lauren and her family. All
of us at Point Pleasant Elks #1698 wish you the best of
luck at regionals in Wilkesbarre, PA.
If your birthday is this month, the Lodge
would like to buy you a drink. Please

Of the Year
APRIL 1ST, CHILDREN’S EASTER EGG HUNT AND LUNCH WITH THE EASTER BUNNY 1 PM
My Fellow Elks,
My nephew is serving in Iraq. In a phone
conversation to home he asked if we could send some
items such as shaving brushes which our Dads used
long before electric shavers because they clean the fine
sand from their guns. The Veterans Committee has
purchased these; however, he and the other members of
his unit also requested food items. These would
include items such as soup, beef jerky, candy, dried
fruit, nuts, packaged cookies or snacks, anything not
packaged in metal cans but only in cardboard
containers, plastic or plastic bags. They also need
warm socks, ChapStick and towelettes to make their
lives more comfortable. It may not seem much to us
but anything we send is greatly appreciated by our men
& women who are keeping us safe. There will be a
box in the Lodge if you wish to help. Items will be
dispersed among toe soldiers in his unit who will be
serving for the next 18 months. Thank you for
showing them we care by giving them a piece of home
while they do their duty serving our country.
Sincerely,
Nancy DeVito
VETERAN’S GROUP ACTIVITIES
by Mike Travisano
The “Ted Holmgren Memorial Bowling
Tournament” fundraiser sponsored by the NVSC
#1698 was held Saturday, February 17th at 1 pm at
Ocean Lanes in Lakewood. We all had a great time
bowling and enjoyed our banquet back at the
Lodge. Please join us next year, we hope to make
it bigger and better. Thanks to all who helped organize the tournament and to the kitchen crew;
food was great.
There has been a change in plans by the
SED for the “Gerry McIntire Golf Outing” originally scheduled at MYRY Run Golf Course. Details will follow as soon as I hear them.
Our nominee for Volunteer of the Year
2006 for the N.J. State Elks Association of N.J. has
been submitted to the National Veterans Service
Commission Chairman for this prestigious award.
The Veteran’s Committee attended a Valentines Date/Dinner Dance at Burnt Tavern Rehabilitation Center on 2/8/07 and had a great time and
hopefully we brought some joy into the veterans
lives.
In appreciation, thank you cards and letters

20th. So what do we do? Sharon & Bob Haugh and Jan
Picarell volunteered to call our “stray Elks”. They will also
call upon new, or newer, members to get involved and for
this I thank them. What can you do? I’m sure that most of
you go out to dinner on Saturday night with friends or
neighbors. After dinner why don’t you bring them down to
YOUR Lodge so they can enjoy live music for dancing or
listening pleasure while enjoying a tasty libation and good
company. This would definitely increase membership.
Finally, I wish ER Jim Byron, his officers and committee chairpeople all the best for a successful 2007/8 year.
