Good afternoon Campbell County! The last weekend of July
and the first weekend of August will prove to be busy for our
county. Please remember that tax-free weekend begins this
Friday, July 29th and ends on Sunday, July 31st. As always, we
encourage our residents to shop local and invest in businesses
in our county, and tax free weekend offers the perfect
opportunity to do so.

Tuesday, August 2 will be National Night Out in Sergeant
Park, which will be a wonderful, family friendly event where
vendors, speakers, and area law enforcement will set up and
share information to community members.
Thursday, August 4th is our local Election Day, but chamber
members will be able to welcome Senator Bob Corker to the
Community Trust Bank in downtown LaFollette. This event will
be open to Chamber Members only and we are thrilled to host
Senator Corker’s visit to Campbell County.
We at the Chamber of Commerce hope each of you have a
lovely week, and remember to buy local, stay local this week­

Music and art showcased at
10th Louie Bluie Music & Arts
Festival
CARYVILLE — The 10th anniversary Louie Bluie Music
& Arts Festival celebrates the history and diversity of
East Tennessee music, arts and culture.
The event will be held Saturday, September 24, 10
a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cove Lake State Park in Caryville,
Tenn. The event was founded by a group of dedicated
volunteers whose goal is to celebrate the artistic
legacy of Tennessee native Howard “Louie Bluie”
Armstrong, who spent his childhood years in
LaFollette, learning to play music with his family and
making art despite a lack of traditional art supplies.
For this year’s festival, Howard’s son Ralphe
Armstrong returns as part of the Armstrong Legacy
Trio with Ray Kamalay and John Reynolds, who
performed with Howard. Based in Detroit, Ralphe is a
Grammy-nominated jazz and rock bassist who has
toured extensively with Aretha Franklin. Also
returning to the festival are folk duo Sparky and
Rhonda Rucker, who have performed at every festival,
and young Americana singer EmiSunshine, who made
a big splash in 2015. Debuting this year are the Knox
County Jug Stompers, whose old-time sound and
repertoire is partially inspired by Howard and other
African-American stringbands of the ‘20s and ‘30s.

Fiddlers Convention reenacted hosted by Bobby
Fulcher; White Oak Elementary School Singers &
Dancers, led by Sean McCollough; Community Choir
of Campbell County; Jeff Orr & Vic Graves;
Appalachian old-time band Wild Blue Yonder; True
House of God Gospel Singers; jazz band Marble City
5; South American swing fusion band Kukuly & the
Gypsy Fuego; Campbell County-based father-son
bluegrass duo Mason T and Carl Capps; bluegrass
band Beechfork Boys; indie folk duo Jubal; country
blues duo Jim Myers and Alex Pulsipher; and

singer-songwriter Matt A. Foster.
Two new stages at Rickard Ridge BBQ restaurant and
in the festival’s Food Court will host eight of the acts
listed above, making this year’s event the most
musical in its history.
For the festival’s landmark 10th year, internationally
known sculptor and new Campbell County resident
William Dean Sarno will create a bust of Howard
Armstrong, which will be displayed and completed on
site in a new art tent on the festival grounds. The tent
will also feature judged entries into the Youth Art
Show, as well as examples of Howard Armstrong’s art.
As in previous years, the park’s Pavilion will host the
judged Art (adult categories) and Quilt show. Guests
will have a chance to vote on their favorites to receive
People’s Choice awards. New on display this year will
be two quilts stitched and assembled by students in
after school programs at Jacksboro Elementary and
Wynn Elementary.
Admission to the festival is free. However, donations
to support the Campbell Culture Coalition, the
non-profit arts organization that produces Louie Bluie,
will be accepted at the entrance gates and inside the
festival grounds.
Louie Bluie Music & Arts Festival is made possible by
support from Tennessee Arts Commission, Campbell
County Commission, Powell-Clinch Utilities Board;
Town of Caryville; City of LaFollette; American Trust
Bank; LaFollette Eye Clinic; Campbell Chamber of
Commerce; Town of Jacksboro; LaFollette Utility
Board; Gray Nationwide Insurance.

craft and food vendors, and details about how
amateur artists can enter the art show, are available

The state of Tennessee's annual sales tax holiday is
held every year, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the last
Friday in July and ending at 11:59 p.m. the
following Sunday night. During this weekend, certain
goods may be purchased tax free.
This year's tax-free holiday weekend begins at
12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 29 and ends Sunday,
July 31 at 11:59 p.m.

The Campbell County Chamber of Commerce
cannot benefit financially from organizing the
Cash Mob. Photos will be posted to our Campbell
County Chamber of Commerce website,
Facebook, E-newsletter, Twitter and Instagram to
promote Cash Mob events.
