MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS
Bonnier requires files in PDF/X-1a format with a SWOP contract proof of the supplied file. For information on creating
PDF/X-1a files, see http://partners.adobe.com/public/asn/en/print_resource_center/PDFX.pdf. In addition, the Adobe
Creative Suite offers a preset for exporting PDF/X-1a files. Other formats will be accepted, and a conversion charge will
be assessed. Proofs that are not SWOP approved will be accepted, but we will not be responsible for color variance. We
accept files on CD, DVD or uploaded to our FTP site (contact us for more info). We prefer files and proofs at 100% of
actual size and containing crop marks indicating trim and/or bleed dimensions. Live matter should be kept 1/4" away
from trim and binding edges. Mechanical requirements for inserts are supplied upon request, and all inserts must be
preapproved by Bonnier production for usability. The magazineis perfect-bound and jogs to the head.
ADVERTISING GUIDELINES
Please label all material with issue date, company/agency name, contact, and phone number. It is the advertiser’s
responsibility to have all materials in by the stated deadlines for each issue. Bonnier will use the last ad run when materials are not in on time. Late charges will be strictly enforced when an ad holds up production of the magazine. No ads
will run without a signed contract. Bonnier reserves the right to reject any ad containing material it deems objectionable.

AD SIZE DEFINITIONS
Trim – The edge of the page, or the final visible borders of a ‘bleed’ ad.
Bleed – .125” on each side beyond the trim measurement of a ‘bleed’ ad. (That is, add .25” to the trim measurement.)
Elements that touch the trim edge should extend at least .125” beyond trim on each side. The bleed area will be
‘trimmed’ off in print.
Safety – .25” inside of trim on each side of a ‘bleed’ ad. (That is, subtract .5” from the trim measurement.) This is
considered the ‘safe’ area for critical content. All critical image and text not intended to bleed must be within this
measurement.
Non-Bleed – Non-bleed ads ‘float’ within the margins of the page.
