(Wakefield) Steele, was born on July 8, 1920, at Creston, Iowa. Bill entered eternal rest on September 12, 2008 at the Creston
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight years, two months, and seven days.
Bill graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1938. On September 15, 1940, he married Doris Mae Redburn in
Creston.
Bill lived in Creston all of his life. Bill began work in 1938 for Burlington Truck Line. He then went to work for CB&Q
Railroad in 1941. He worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad for forty years, retiring in 1981 as a conductor.
Bill was a former member of the Elks Lodge of Creston; an active member of the local United Transportation Union, and
served as the local Treasurer, local Chairman and Delegate to the International Unit from 1964 until his retirement in 1981; a
member of the Burlington Northern Veterans; and a member of the Lakeshore Golf Club in Afton. Bill helped carve the big
bear at McKinley Park and did other wood-carving projects.

Margaret Ann Pontow was born July 8, 1925 in Creston to Grace (Wakefield) Steele and Dwight Steele. She graduated from
Creston High School in 1943. On September 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Bernard (Ben) Pontow in Creston.
Margaret lived in Creston her whole life and was a homemaker and also made custom drapery and adopted a lot of abandoned
plants. Margaret was a member of the United Methodist Church in Creston, 65 year member of Crestmoor Country Club,
lifetime member of Elks Lodge, lifetime member of Ladies Bancroft and also a 55 member of her Bridge Club in Creston.
Survivors include two sons: Tom Pontow of Creston; Dan Pontow (Tad Mellecker) of Des Moines, one granddaughter: Erin
Pontow of Des Moines; one sister: Kay (husband Jack) Glover of Hideaway, Texas; one sister-in-law: Josephine Steele of
Creston and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard (Ben) in 2005; two brothers: William “ B i l l ”Steele and Frank
“ Por k y ”Steele.

brother Scott Gregory Glover and his wife Sharon of White Bluff, Tennessee; and by two nieces and a host of friends.
Visitation will be at Rhoton Funeral Home on Friday, May 14th from 6-8 p.m. where memorial services are scheduled for 3
p.m. Saturday, May 15h. Pastor Kirk Parsons will officiate.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Lung Association of Texas, 8150 Brookriver Drive, Dallas,
Texas 75247.
