Important Events of 2007
By: M. Castro, E. Varela
The year 2007 brought us many surprises out in the world
as well as in our school. Here are some events that changed and
impacted people’s lives.
Massacre
At the start of the day on April 16, Virginia Tech students and
staff faced a tragic situation. A student of the University killed
32 people and then killed himself. For a while the killer was
unknown. However in the following days, videos, photos, and
many other clues revealed this murderer, Cho Seung- Hui.
Vanished
While dining in a restaurant in Praia da Luz, Kate McCann
and her husband Gerry never imagined that her daughter,
Madeline McCann, would disappear. This happened in May. Her
parents said that she unexpectedly disappeared in their hotel
room. Desperately they traveled throughout Europe and Africa,
but unfortunately she was not found.
Structural Collapse
Disaster strikes in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 1, when
a bridge collapses and kills 13 people. Chunks of concrete and
cars fell into the water as the bridge broke apart. Some drivers
were lucky enough to manage to stop before they fell into the
Mississippi River. The cause of this bridge failure is yet to be
found.

In late October almost two dozen fires took place in Southern
California. Fourteen people were left dead after this event. This
misfortune caused a lot of problems to people near Los Angeles,

Did you go to the Hollenbeck Idol to support your fellow
classmates? It was an exciting night, many students, teachers, and
family members rushed to the auditorium to get good seats. The
competitors were; Melody Guerrero, Stephanie Sanchez, Miranda
Muro, Jessica Ojedo, Elizabeth Arroyo, the Umbrella Cool
Dance Group, Ana Muniz, Ericka Jimenez, Dorienne Ordaz, the
Drill Team Dance Group, the Rock Band, and Leandra Reyes.
They were all competing for one of the categories; Best Dance

Performance.
While the competitors were performing on stage, the crowd
was singing and dancing along. As the night came to an end the
judges, Mr. Torres, Mr. Garcia, and Ms. Martinez, decided on
who the winners would be. The audience anxiously waited.
Finally, the decision was made and here are the results. Best
Dance Performance was the Drill Team (Dorienne Ordaz, Mabell
Trillo, Samantha Lopez, Andria Medina, and Ashley Meta).
Best Individual Performance was Leandra Reyes. There was a tie
for Overall Performance between Ericka Jimenez and Miranda
Muro. Congratulations to all who participated.

Review:
This comedy film is about a
young teenage girl named Juno
(Ellen Page) that gets pregnant
while in high school, and what
she decides to do with the
unborn baby. You will love this
character because of her witty
fast talking personality. Her
journey is assisted by her best
friend, Paulie Bleeker (Michael
Cera) who is by her side. The
cast also includes Jennifer Garner, who does a terrific job. The film
has great dialogue, and is wonderfully acted. It is a good movie.

Review:
This is a futuristic science

who plays Dr. Robert Neville.

developed a cure for cancer.
However, the cure has a horrible
side effect and New York is
suddenly infected with a terrible
air born virus. The only person

Will Smith does an excellent job. The film is well timed. The
suspenseful moments happen right when they should and there
are also some scenes that are heart breaking. Good Story!
