Amy Mihaljevic Press conference 6-23-16

On October 27, 1989, 10 year old Amy Mihaljevic was abducted from Bay Village Square
Shopping Center in Bay Village, OH. Amy left school at 2:05pm and walked approx. 1/4 mile to
the shopping center. The last confirmed sighting of Amy was outside a business at Bay Square
between 2:15 and 2:30pm. At the time of abduction, two separate witnesses observed a White
Male interacting with Amy at the shopping center. One witness observed this suspect speaking
with Amy. The second witness observed the suspect approach Amy and directing her towards the
shopping center parking lot. The suspect was described as a White Male, 30 to 40 years of age,
5’7” to 5’10” tall, medium build, dark hair, and possibly wearing glasses.
Investigation indicates Amy received a telephone call some days prior to her abduction from an
unknown individual. The caller arranged a meeting with Amy after requesting her assistance in
selecting a gift to give to Amy’s mother as a reward for a job promotion. Amy’s mother worked
at “Trading Times Magazine” in Westlake, OH.
On February 8, 1990, Amy’s body was discovered in a farm field (20 feet from the road surface)
along County Road 1181, in Ruggles Township, Ashland County, Ohio. The body disposal site is
approx. 50 miles southwest of Bay Village. County Road 1181 is a straight rural roadway
allowing extended visibility in all directions. Amy’s body was re-dressed in the same clothing
that she was last known to be wearing, except for missing shoes and earrings. The partially
skeletonized body exhibited stabbing wounds to the throat and blunt trauma to the rear head area.
Amy’s body was not covered at the time of discovery and the location of the homicide crime
scene is unknown.
Recent case review and subsequent forensic analysis indicates the curtain and blanket depicted in
the following photographs may have been utilized by the perpetrator to wrap/transport Amy’s
body. The curtain and blanket were located in close proximity to each other several hundred
yards from Amy’s body. The curtain appears to be hand- made, possibly from bedding or bedcovering material. The curtain is 68” long, 27” wide and was originally “avocado green” in

On June 23, 2016, the curtain and blanket were displayed to various media outlets and the
general public. The purpose of this initiative is to solicit public cooperation in an attempt to
develop information regarding the origin and/or prior ownership of the curtain/blanket. Positive
