Height 24 in. Length 37 in. Depth 16 in. Starting in 1857 with a 70 ton schooner, the Southern Cross has been the name of a series of ships used for the Melanesian Misson of the Anglican Church. The 4th Southern Cross, most likely depicted in the model, was built in 1891 in Wivenhoe, Essex, England by the Forrest & Sons Company for about £9000. It was outfitted with an auxiliary steam engine and weighed about 240 tons. 27 63.
