Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to the
WPCC for granting me the honor of Ambassador of the Month a/k/a Miss April Dirt Girl.
As a member of WPCC for the last decade, I
have met some of the warmest people and made some wonderful
friends and I thank the Chamber for this as well.
Originally, I am from St. Louis, Missouri, but I have been a heart
Floridian since birth. My St. Louis Cardinals had Spring Training at
Al Lang Stadium and I fell in love with the Tampa Bay area. I have
been attending Spring Training since I was in the womb and yes,
I bleed Cardinal Red. My handsome husband, Paul, (a contractor
from Buffalo) and I met here in 1984 and married in 1987. I was
a summer Mom for years before our two sons moved down from
Buffalo and now, besides being the wicked evil stepmother, I’m
a happy, happy Gramma too. (I love it when they come grown.)
We’ve since moved from Pinellas to our favorite New Port
Richey. Paul and Paul, Jr., have been building and I have been titling
Tampa Bay for nearly two decades now. I originally attained my
legal experience in real estate, working for a local attorney who
concentrated specifically on real estate, business law and probate
and later moved on to the practice of contract and construction
law. I eventually acquired my own title license, and have been
helping people with my own version of a sunny FLA Title agency,
since 2003. Now, I have partnered with a national title insurance
agency and can help you on a national level. Ask me how I can
help you and/or your clients pretty much 24/7.
Have notary, will travel, just in case you need a notary public
and I can marry you, if you need an officiant. I have all kinds of
tips for real estate closings, moving tips, saving money on transactions...... Just call.
Please remember, when you pay, you pick. It’s your decision
who you choose for your notary and/or title agency. Pick me, Gigi
D., for all of your real property needs.
The West Pasco Young Professionals group was created to connect talented young
professionals ages 21 to 40. It is the go-to organization for young professionals looking
to energize, engage and contribute to the greater West Pasco community. We strive to
foster an environment that attracts and retains young talent wanting to learn about
issues, interact with regional leaders, and give back to the community. This active and
vibrant group of future leaders is open to all young business professionals with the desire
to connect with peers, learn from leaders, grow professionally, and become part of the
process of giving back. We encourage all current members to continue to participate
with the organization for the remainder of their membership in an advisory capacity.

Leadership Pasco Is Now Accepting
Applications For The Class Of 2017
Emerging and existing community leaders who live or work in Pasco County are invited to apply. The Class
of 2017 will be chosen from a competitive pool of applicants interested in learning about the important
issues facing Pasco County and committed to utilizing their leadership abilities for its long-term benefit.
Since 1990, Leadership Pasco has introduced business and community leaders to major facets of the Pasco County community
through an intensive ten-month course. Class members participate
in full-day program sessions, tours and candid conversations with
community leaders to broaden their local understanding of the
ever changing needs of Pasco County. Topics include criminal
justice, healthcare, education, government, infrastructure, media
and business industries.
In addition, each Leadership Pasco class is responsible for making a positive impact within the community by organizing a Class
Project that brings charitable people and resources together to
address a particular social, educational, economic, environmental
or cultural need in Pasco County.
Applications are available online at www.leadershippasco.com
and applications are due no later than June 1, 2016. Applications
will be reviewed by the Leadership Pasco Recruitment Committee
in mid-June and selected Class of 2017 members will be contacted
by the end of June 2016. Monthly program sessions begin with
orientation in August 2016 and conclude with a graduation ceremony in May 2017.
For more than 25 years, Leadership Pasco has helped to identify
and recruit current or potential leaders of Pasco County, facilitate
the development and interaction of those leaders, and to foster
an issues-oriented learning environment for those leaders and
the citizens of Pasco County in order to encourage an exchange
of ideas and generate enthusiasm for community growth and
development. For more information, call 727-534-4280 or visit
www.leadershippasco.com.

Office of the

Pasco’s Push for
Innovative Programs
by Kurt S. Browning, Superintendent of Pasco
County Public Schools
During the 2016 Legislative Session, Pasco
County Schools identified these funding priorities: The Tampa Bay Regional Aeronautics Academy, community
schools, and STEM Stackable Credentials. Although Pasco County
Schools is not the fiscal agent for all of these programs, we are
working with partners for the benefit of our students and those
across the Tampa Bay region.
The Tampa Bay Regional Aeronautics Academy is Florida’s first
regional aeronautics academy, serving students in Hillsborough,
Pasco, and Pinellas school districts. Each district has at least one
aeronautics high school, and allows any student to apply through
controlled open enrollment. Our districts have partnered with
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for college level curriculum
and with Tampa International Airport for internships. Thanks to
Governor Scott and the Florida Legislature, this appropriation
received funding in prior years.
In 2012, Florida’s first community school opened at Evans
High School in Orlando. Evans partnered with the University of
Central Florida and Children’s Home Society to provide assistance
to students and their families. For the past two years, Pasco County
Schools has participated in a planning grant and last year, Gulfside
Elementary School in Holiday was selected as Pasco’s community
school location. This community school will provide wrap-around
services, such as basic medical and dental care, behavioral counseling, and after school programs, to students and their families in
the Gulfside Elementary - Anclote High feeder pattern.
Finally, STEM Stackable Credentials is a new, high-rigor program
enabling high school students to graduate with a high school
diploma, at least one industry certification, and an Associate of
Science (A.S.) degree from Pasco-Hernando State College. The
eligible A.S. degrees will be in Airport Management, Aircraft
Maintenance, Pilot Operations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and
Cyber/IT Security. I am thankful to the Florida Legislature and to
Governor Rick Scott for their support.

Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller
National County Government Month
National County Government Month, held each April, recognizes and celebrates the important and essential role county
government plays in the lives of citizens across the nation. The 2016
theme is Safe and Secure Counties. Counties across America serve a
critical role in ensuring public safety through maintaining justice
systems, responding to victims of natural disasters, facilitating
emergency management, strengthening economic opportunities,
supporting programs and services for transportation, improving
infrastructure and community health, and much more.
At the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office, we work alongside Pasco
County’s outstanding public servants on a daily basis. Customers
often reach out to the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office
seeking assistance on a variety of services ranging from paying
traffic citations, to recording a mortgage, or filing a court-ordered
protective injunction, just to name a few. To learn more about the
services provided, please visit www.pascoclerk.com.

Parents and guardians should be aware of the three leading
causes of preventable child deaths. Last year, the Department of
Children and Families joined with community partners to launch
“Warning Signs,” a three-year public awareness campaign to
educate and encourage the community to take action to save
our children from the leading preventable causes of child deaths.
The top causes include:
Suffocation
More infants die in adult beds than anywhere else. Kids belong
in kid beds. Infants sleeping in adult beds account for nearly 74
percent of deaths in babies under 4 months. To prevent infant
deaths from suffocation, parents should put the baby’s crib next
to the parents’ bed for the first 6 months of life. Keep the crib safe
with tight-fitting sheets and a firm mattress. In addition, keep the
crib free of blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. Place the infant
on its back when putting him or her down to sleep.
Drowning
Drowning kills more kids ages 1-4 than any other cause. Small
kids can drown as fast as 20 seconds in such diverse objects as a
bucket, bathtub, toilet, and a pool.
Formal swimming lessons for kids age 4 and under cut drowning risk by 88 percent. Two-thirds of small kids who drowned in a
pool were last seen in the house. Eliminate distractions for those
watching kids near water – no texting, phone calls, reading, or
video games. Learn CPR – it saves lives.
Inflicted head trauma
Shaking infants – even once – can kill or injure them for life.
Half of kids who suffer severe head trauma before age 5 die before their 21st birthday. Crying is most often the reason people
shake, squeeze or throw small babies. Parents themselves most
often cause the injury or death, but other people not prepared or
equipped to handle a crying baby are also the cause.
Crying is normal. It’s how babies communicate. Check a crying baby for hunger, a dirty diaper, their temperature, and other
causes that can make them uncomfortable. Offer people who
watch infants a support system to relieve their stress.

ones safe, visit the website www.PreventNeedlessDeaths.com.
