The Saluggia Research Centre is located in the area of the homonymous town, some 40 km
away from Vercelli and 45 km from Turin. The Centre’s activities began in the ‘60s and focused
on research, development and fostering the peaceful use of nuclear energy in industry.

Today it is a multidisciplinary research centre mainly operating in the following sectors:

Energy technologies, renewable energy sources and energy saving
Biotechnologies, health and ecosystems protection
Radioprotection
Nuclear fusion and fission and related technologies.
The Centre accounts for 40 researchers out of about 90 staff-employees.
The Centre is especially dedicated to fostering the Agency’s activities and the relations with the
territory. It is endowed with infrastructures ideal as venue for public events: a 250-seat
auditorium and a 25-seat conference room both equipped with audio-visual systems as well as
an integrated videoconferencing system. The Centre hosts workshops, seminars, conferences,
training modules/internship and is also the venue for on-the-job training and degree theses
activities.
The Centre Direction Office is also responsible for CEMES (External Emergency Centre) –
initially conceived as a Centre in support to the nuclear plants and labs of the area – and
boasts a remarkable know-how as to the management of technology infrastructures,
monitoring systems, control equipment and integrated services, with a prevailing interest in
radiometry and related issues.

HOW TO REACH THE CENTRE
By Plane
Turin or Milan Airport.
By Car
From Turin or Milan: Take Highway A4, exit at Rondissone heading to Torrazza
Piemonte, then to Saluggia. Follow the road signs to Crescentino; after about 2 Km
follow the deviation to the Centre.
From Vercelli: Follow the road signs to Crescentino “Strada delle Grange”, pass by
ENEL power plant in “Trino-Leri” and EON: once at the Highway A26-E25 roundabout,
near Vercelli Ovest tollgate, take the Strada Provinciale SP1 all the way through to
Crescentino. Once at the following roundabouts follow the road signs to Saluggia.
From Casale Monferrato - Alessandria: Drive through Strada Provinciale SP31Bis all
the way to Crescentino, go through this town then follow the road signs to Saluggia. As
an alternative, keep driving through the Strada Provinciale that also acts as a ring road
to Chivasso; at the fork where Fiat Teksid plant is – right after Frazione Galli – turn and
follow the road signs to Saluggia.
By Train
Saluggia or Chivasso railway stations, Torino-Milano line. From Chivasso railway station
the only way to reach Saluggia is by taxi (for approximately 10 km).
