“ZZ FESTIVAL”
Jūrmala Resort Festival is a very special
celebration, marking the beginning of
the summer season in the largest resort
town of the Baltics. This happy occasion will take place on May 28, Jūrmala Town Council and local residents
have prepared a number of spectacular events for all the visitors. The festival
opens at 13:00 with a parade, inviting
every inhabitant of Jūrmala to join in.
All day long, the town’s guests and
residents will be able to enjoy special
tasting events offered by restaurants,
concerts held in the Horna Garden and
on the beach, the holiday fair, activities
for children, including the Latvian High
School Sports & Quiz “ZZ Tournament”
finals, and many more. The festival will
be concluded with an exclusive Laima
Vaikule’s performance on the grand
beach stage, and spectacular summer
fireworks. The band “Carnival Youth”
popular among teenagers will intro4
duce the concert.
“ZZ Tournament” is the largest Latvian
high school sports competition, and
Jūrmala Resort Festival will host its finals called “ZZ Festival”. Best Latvian
teams will compete against each other
in the Dzintari Forest Park and on the
beach. In the meantime, such bands
as “Triānas Parks”, “Frankie Animal”,
“Olas”, “Justs” and DJ “Dub:ra” will
entertain the guests and the competitors, taking care of the atmosphere.

DJ workshops, as well as inline and

DZINTARI CONCERT HALL 80th ANNIVERSARY GALA
This year, the Dzintari Concert Hall is celebrating its 80th anniversary, and
since this was Latvia’s first concert hall, this event is of particular importance.
The anniversary year will be marked with numerous concerts and performances offered to the audiences every day all year long. The Jūrmala Festival is one of this spring’s major events that will take seven days and cater for
all tastes in music and drama. The Summertime Festival by Inese Galante as
well as various concerts by some of the world’s most famous artists will be
offered for the listeners’ enjoyment as well.
This musical performance, also known as the “Symphony of Thousands” will
bring together more than a hundred musicians on the big stage of Dzintari Concert Hall. Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) once said that he wrote a “cheerful gift to
the nation, a great and inconceivable source of joy.”
The audience will meet some popular and famous musicians and bands: the
Maestro Raimonds Pauls, Antons Ļahovskis, Daumants Kalniņš, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian Radio Big Band, Intars Busulis and other
musicians.

Mahler’s Eighth Symphony
Performance “Chapayev and Void”
A theatrical adaptation of the famous Victor Pelevin’s novel will be staged at the
Dzintari Concert Hall. This year, the show celebrates its 15th anniversary. This epic
production is rich in talented acting, bold direction and tragicomic moments.

This four-day-long festival will bring together more than 20 singers and bands onto

Inese Galante festival “Summertime 2016”
This is a very special concert event in Latvia that will delight the audience with a
great variety of performers and musical genres, beautiful and surprising concert
programmes, and Jūrmala’s charming and warm ambience. The famous Latvian
opera star Inese Galante will invite a number of musical celebrities and new talents
to perform at the Dzintari Concert Hall. Full programme of the festival on page

“Comedy Club”: Duo “KaribidiS & Skorohod”
and musical “Comedy”
Jūrmala has traditionally been home to a variety of comedy festivals. More
than that, laughter has long been known as a great remedy against various
ailments — it relaxes the body, reduces stress and strengthens the immune system. We are glad to offer four major comedy festivals.
Stand-up, sketches and musical acts by the Ponomarenko brothers, Gennady
Vetrov, Svyatoslav Eshchenko, Valentina Kokina and Victor Ostroukhov, and EKS
BB show band. The event will be held in Russian.
Positive emotions, jokes about sex, politics and the underside of show business.
Comedy Club residents have no taboos, and their audacious sense of humour
always hits the target, causing bursts of laughter.

Festival “KVARTĀLS 95”
This Ukrainian music & comedy festival will bring together such showbiz stars as
Ruslana, Jamala, the actors of “Kvartal” and the “Vremja i Steklo” band.
June 29-31
Festival “VISI HUMORA HĪTI”
The festival will feature the “Kvartet I” actor quartet, the stars of “Election Day”
(“День выборов”), “Radio Day” (“День радио”) and “What Do Men Talk
About” (“О чем говорят мужчины”). Also featuring the performer Semyon Slepakov and the TNT Channel Stand Up comedians.
The event will be held in Russian.

IN JURMALA
The celebration of Līgo midsummer festival in Jurmala
will start on June 18 at the Jurmala Open Air Museum with ethnographic celebration of ancient traditions
with songs and dances. On the same day, in the Forest
House of the Ķemeri National Park, another solstice-related celebration event, dedicated to different species of
plants, incuding protected plant species that must not be
picked for making holiday wreaths.
Jūrmala Town Council has set up several Līgo bonfire
sites on the beach. On July 23 the bonfires will be lit
along the entire town of Jūrmala, from Jaunķemeri to
Lielupe. The biggest night parties will be held on the
beaches in Dzintari and Kauguri. The “Apvedceļš”
country band will perform in Kauguri, but Dzintari will
host “Džentlmeņu Špagats”, and Normunds Rutulis and
“Musiqq”. The event will start around 20:00.

In June, the Meadow Day is traditionally held at the Ķemeri National Park, with
guided tours to natural grasslands, various workshops and activities for kids. This
year, Ķemeri invites everyone to take part in the hay-clearing event. Visit the
website of the national park for detailed info.
July 9
BAT Night
One of the oldest and most popular events in the Ķemeri National Park. It begins
at sunset with lectures and workshops for children. After sunset, all visitors are
welcome to join bat watching guided tours. The event is held in the Forest House
at Ķemeri.
August 12 and 13
Ķemeri Festival
Held by a local resident organisation, this event traditionally starts in the late
evening with an open-air concert by candlelight near the “Ķirzaciņa” sulphur
spring. The second day offers various sports activities, games and assignments.
The evening of the second day traditionally ends with open-air parties. The event
will be held in the Ķemeri Park.

FESTIVAL AND
GHETTO GAMES
During the week of the event, the Dzintari Concert Hall will host Vestards Šimkus
with the trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov, Ivars Kalniņš with his “Kino Teātris” concert,
the Georgian jazz band “Egari”, Ksenija Sidorova will perform as Carmen, while
the tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko will offer a solo concert. The festival’s special guest
will be Intars Busulis and the “Abonementa” orchestra playing together with the
Liepaja Symphony Orchestra. A look at the best Broadway musicals will be offered by Louise Dearman, Adrian der Gregorian, and the Jūrmala Festival Orchestra
conducted by Roberts Purvis. The festival will end with an Italian-style gala concert.

These three major events will perfectly complement one another, merging into a fun
festival for every visitor of Jūrmala.

Salsa Night on the beach

JŪrmala Festival
On July 15, one will be able to enjoy a great show by “Orchestra Mercadonegro”
on the beach in Dzintari. This band is a unique Salsa music group, made up of talented artists. The concert will be followed by a beach party until dawn.

Ghetto Games Streetball Tournament
It’s not just basketball; this is a gorgeous show that has earned worldwide fame!
Two days spent in stiff competitions in Majori, on the car park across the railway
station. Visitors will be entertained by trick shows, contests, and, of course, the
streetball tournament itself.

Jomas Street Festival
This spectacular summertime festival will be held to celebrate one of the oldest streets in Jūrmala – Jomas street. This celebration will be marked with an extensive
concert programme presented on several stages, theatrical performances, exciting
sports activities and a special stage for children.

MARATHONS
June 5
Jūrmala Cycling Marathon
The participant registration will start on July 5 at 9:00, next to the Dzintari Concert
Hall. 4 routes will be available: Sports (87 km), Popular (40 km), Family (14.5 km)
and Children’s (500 m). The competition will be run by a team of judges approved
by the Latvian Cycling Federation. Starting point: 1 Turaidas St, Dzintari.
JULY 2
Jūrmala ColoUr Run
The Colour Run marathons now take place in more than 200 cities around the
world. There are 3 distances available: the half marathon, and the 10.5 km and 5
km routes. The runners will start the 5 km race in a white t-shirt, getting covered from
head to toe in paint after every kilometre of the route, first blue, second yellow, third
orange and fourth rose. Only safe food-grade colouring is used, but it is advised
to protect eyes with sunglasses. The registration will start at 8:00. Starting point: 1
Turaidas St, Dzintari.

Expedition
for Kids
The night expedition for children “Nestāsti pasaciņas” (“Do Not Tell Stories”) will
take place on August 5, in Jūrmala, at the Dzintari Forest Park – a mysterious place full of adventure and surprises. In the dead of the night, a number of fairy-tale
performances and animations will be held simultaneously in different corners of
the park. The event will offer something that will turn into a real adventure! For the
pleasure of children and their parents, a snack market will work there all night.
Remember to bring along your flashlights to be able to find in the darkness the
correct path to the fairy land.
“Do Not Tell Stories” is Jūrmala’s gift for children; the event is free of charge!

Jūrmala ROLLER-Skating Festival
4 routes will be available in the roller-skating marathon: Sports (43.5 km), Popular
(14.5 km), Family (4.5 km) and Children’s (500 and 1000 m). The registration will
start at 8:00, next to the Dzintari Concert Hall, which is also the start and finish
point. Starting point: 1 Turaidas St, Dzintari.

CHAMPIONSHIP
“JŪRMALA MASTERS
2016”
This is the biggest and most important sporting event in Jūrmala, traditionally
bringing together the best beach volleyball players from around the world. The
beach volleyball tournament will be held from August 31 to September 4 on the
Majori beach, between Tirgoņu and Vanagu streets not far away from the Baltic
Beach Hotel & SPA. The town of Jūrmala is the tile sponsor of the event. Vairāk

AKVAPARKS
Since 30 December, 2003, it has been the largest water park in the Northern Europe. A true magic kingdom for every child crossing the bridge across the Lielupe.
It does not matter how old you are: water park’s pipes, slides, swimming pools,
saunas and pirate ships will help you relax and make your childhood dreams come
true. It is a great way to return back to your childhood. Older children will discover
new submarine rides that one can use to exercise and enjoy underwater massage
at the same time. On May 23, younger children will be able to learn many new
things from the final part of the contest “Be safe, not reckless”, dedicated to water
safety.

Summer Beach Opening
Līvu water park summer opening celebration will be held on June 4. 20 slides,
15 swimming pools and most importantly – the open-air pool with slides and the
“Tricky Dome”, which combines rock climbing and balancing, as well as the most
powerful counter-current in Latvia.

Summer Festival in “Līvu AKVAPARKS” Water Park
The festival will take place in late August, entertaining its visitors with large dolls,
musical performances, and other types of entertainment and fun. We would like to
remind you that the outdoor beach of water park closes on September 4.

AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Kauguri Autumn Festival will celebrate the end of summer on September 3. Thus,
Jūrmala continues the last-year tradition to celebrate the end of summer with the
glorious Kauguri Autumn Festival. Similar to the Resort Festival, Kauguri Autumn
Festival will present a day-long schedule with various cultural events and a grand
gala. The performers will be announced in the middle of the summer.

SUMMER”
IN MELLUŽI
Every Sunday this summer, free events for families with children will take place
in the park near the Melluži open-air stage. This is a great opportunity to take
part in fun and educational activities, have a good time and learn a lot of new
things. These events will take place throughout the summer and will be devoted
to a variety of important and educational themes – green thinking, safety, agility
and creative skills. The events will take place from 11:00 to 13:00, regardless of
the weather.

FOREST PARK
The Dzintari Forest Park has earned the love and admiration of the town’s residents
and guests. Its playgrounds are always full of children and mothers with prams who
enjoy long walks on the wooden terraces, running through the pine forests. It is also
a place for holding great public events. This summer, the Dzintari Forest Park will
bring together children and adults for the night-time “Don’t Tell Fairy tales” event
that will take place on August 6.
The 13 hectare park comprises three big playgrounds for children of different ages,
a skating ground, a 36 metre-tall watch tower, cafés, a skating park, sports and
entertainment equipment rental stations; there will be a new attraction opening this
year. Starting from July, Jūrmala’s Tarzan adventure park that consists of different
obstacles placed on treetops in four difficulty levels and a special route for the
youngest adventurers.

Jūrmala city has a total of 40 modern children’s playgrounds. The biggest of them are found in Dzintari forest
park, as well as in Dubulti prospect west of the Statoil gas
station, and in Melluži, near the open-air stage. A total of
16 beach playgrounds are located throughout Jūrmala
from Jaunķemeri to Lielupe. Jūrmala beach itself is one
huge 16 miles long sandpit, providing joy of constructing
castles, digging pits and bathing in water.

The Līvu Water Park is the biggest water attraction park in Northen Europe with the

The “Balans Kids” program by “Amber Spa Boutique Hotel” includes a warm swimming pool, bowling, and dance and arts classes. The pool offers swimming lessons.

Sea Water Pool
The water for the swimming pool in the 5-star “Baltic Beach Hotel & SPA” is obtained from far out in sea, delivered via a pipeline, treated and then warmed up

Mineral Water Pools
The mineral water for the swimming pool of sanatorium Belorussija is obtained from
the depth of 500 m. It is one of the two mineral water pools located in Jūrmala. The
other pool of this type is offered in the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Centre. The
water temperature in the pools is about +29...+31 °C.

WELLNESS OASIS
The Wellness Oasis centre at Hotel Jūrmala SPA offers three different swimming

“Balans Kids” Children’S club
The activities are held according to a schedule, so all the visitors are urged to
consult the club’s website or make a phone call beforehand. Under the guidance
of experienced tutors, children will learn to swim, play chess, dance, water polo,
acrobatics and fitness, and also study English. There is also a bowling alley with
the lanes and the balls adapted for children: the special lane sides prevent the
ball from rolling away along the gutter.

Laivas Restaurant Playroom
A ball pool, a trampoline, obstacle courses and a variety of toys are offered in
an impressive children’s centre on the second floor of the Laivas restaurant. Here,
you can leave children of 3 and older and be confident that your offspring is

Lielupe Children’s Club offers exciting adventures and entertainment for children
ages 2 to 14. While your children are being looked after by experienced staff,

Ķemeri
National
Park
The Ķemeri Marsh fascinates people with its special atmosphere. The national
park was established in the area of former lagoons of the sea that has since
receded, leaving this area to turn into unique swamps and lakes with sulphuric
mineral springs and muds, rivulets and unique forest plant species.
The Ķemeri National Park information centre “Forest House” offers an interactive
exhibition. In order to get there, go down Tūristu street (in the Jaunķemeri direction) and then turn left, following the signs.
Great Ķemeri Bog TRAIL
This is a popular tourist destination in Ķemeri National Park. Here, you can discover virgin raised moss bogs, enjoy the peace and the unique landscapes. The
large boardwalk ring is 3.4 km long, the small one is 1.4 km. Please keep in mind
that the distance from the Ķemeri station to the beginning of the trail is at least 4
km in one direction. That’s a long walk!
Black Alder’s Wet Forest TRAIL
This is the newest of the Ķemeri National Nature Park trails, starting at the park
information centre “Forest house”, it is 600 m long. This trail is suitable for families
with children as it has a playground its beginning and it is not far away from the
centre of Ķemeri. Just around the corner is the old Ķemeri health resort park with
the hydrogen sulphide spring “Ķirzaciņa”, known for its last century buildings,
little bridges and other urban objects.
Lake Sloka Bird Viewing Tower
Although the nature trail ring at the Sloka lake is now under reconstruction, the
lake`s bird watching tower is still accessible. It can be reached via the cycling
trail Ķemeri–Kūdra. The distance between the car park near “Ķirzaciņa” sulphur
spring in Ķemeri and the watching tower is 3 km.

You can get to Ķemeri by bus No 6, 10, and 10a, but if you want to reach the
Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk, the Riga–Tukums train would be more convenient.
When you arrive at the Ķemeri station, follow the signs.

Cultural CentrE
Concerts, performances, exhibitions, movies, creative workshops, a variety of activities: all of these summarise the Jūrmala Cultural Centre as the main driver of
culture in the town. It is located in Majori, at 35 Jomas street, and has several
branches.

Jūrmala Theatre is famous for its children`s plays. This year theatre celebrates its 37th anniversary. Theater employs 30 actors and 2 directors – this includes the main company, as well as the puppet and youth troupes. Visit www.

The Jūrmala House of Artists brings together various creative
groups, including the visual art and weaving studios. It is home to the folk collective

Museums
In early June, the JŪRMALA CITY MUSEUM presents a themed exhibition “Children at the Resort”,
about the life of children at the resort from the end of
19th century to the present day. Photographs, toys,
clothes, games, books revealing childhood memories.
Various interactive lessons will be offered to adult and
children visitors.

ASPAZIJA’S HOUSE offers the new “Aspazija is
back to Dubulti” exhibition that allows the visitors to get
acquainted with the poetess’s creative work via interactive and digital aids. The house where the poetess spent
the last 10 years of her life retains the spirit of Aspazija
herself and her faithful cats as holographic projections.

Art Station “Dubulti” is Europe’s only contemporary art facility located in a still functioning railway station. From June 17, all visitors can enjoy a photo

OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
AND RAGA KĀPA
NATURE PARK
At the eastern end of Jūrmala, where the Lielupe River meets
the sea, lies the untouched forest of the Raga Kāpa Nature
Park. Raga Kāpa is one of the highest dunes in Latvia that can
best be viewed by taking the well-fitted nature trail, beginning
at the Jūrmala Open-Air Museum. There are several viewing
platforms and benches installed along the trail, where you can
sit back and eat a sandwich with some linden blossom tea.
Jūrmala Open-Air Museum offers you to experience the dayto-day life and household culture of a 19–20th century fisherman. Here, you can see two authentic fishing vessels, countless
buildings and tools related to fishing, such as anchors and rope
weaving equipment. Museum entry is free of charge. Every
Thursday, there is a special fish smoking event with tasting sessions and conversations. The fish-smoking master class participation fee is 1 euro.

THE JŪRMALA PORT IN BUĻĻUCIEMS opened this season. The yacht
club that is based here has a marina for 15 yachts. During this year’s season, the
marina’s capacity will be increased to 25 yachts. The clients of the port have access
to drinking water and electricity. After the reconstruction, there will also be showers,
toilets and sanitation services available. After the Lielupe estuary is dredged, the
guaranteed draft depth in the Lielupe basin will be 4 metres.

WATERBus “New Way”
The waterbus is a traditional way to get to Jūrmala. This summer until the end of September the “New Way” waterbus will run between the 11 Novembra krastmala and
Majori. It will offer water tours of Lielupe during daytime and will go back to Riga
in the evening. The travel time is 2.5 hours. The bus runs only if there are a sufficient
number of passengers.

Sailing Ship Lībava
The old-style sailing ship Lībava has its home port in Liepaja, but it spends the entire summer season in Jūrmala. The ship was completed in 2008 after old Dutch
herren-yacht drawings. The vessel can be leased for private parties, cruises and
tours. Its marina is located in Buļļuciems, 80 Vikingu iela. Short tours of the deck are
available by prior arrangement.

In Jūrmala, everyone has a unique opportunity to master yoga and chi kung for
free. The summer classes take place on the beaches of Jūrmala and are conducted
by the experienced instructors from the Latvian Yoga School and certified Chi Kung
specialists Igor Kudryavtsev and his colleagues. These classes offer both theory and

This is a recreational type of sport in which everything is decided by good road
paving. Especially if you are a beginner or are still considering to try rollerskating.
For the summer season, the Majori sports hall will be equipped with a special synthetic surface, but the stadium’s roof will let you rollerskate even in the rain. There is
also a rollerskate rental service available. Only 2 euros for adults and 1 euro for
students and seniors!

The Jūrmala beach and the adjacent pine forests are a Nordic walking paradise.

Private vehicle drivers must pay a Jūrmala entry
fee of € 2 from 1 April till 30 September. The
entry ticket is valid for entering the city after the
time period of up to one hour. It is valid for entering the city once — the time of your stay in the
city is unlimited. All municipal parking lots in city
are free of charge.
