2007
Welcome to
Navman
In our 19th year, we are proud to present a new look to Navman. Yes, we do have a
new logo, but more importantly our latest products define a new future of style and
functionality for Navman. However, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to
making boating safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Navman Digital Radar
This year the 8000 Series proudly introduce Navman Digital Radar to you, giving you
superior target definition and clutter rejection, as well as 10-target MARPA. We’ve
refined the way radar data is delivered to the processor - what you see on screen is
founded on 10-bit data capture and processing.
A.I.S.
Automatic Identification System, or AIS, is a growing infrastructure set up to save
lives and reduce shipping hazards - all boaters should be looking to use this vital, free
service. For more information on AIS, take a look at page 22.
Picture the Difference
The 8120 and 8084 can take and display video sources in full SVGA colour, and our
new chartplotters and fishfinders have doubled in resolution - 640 x 480 pixel colour
units now present brilliant definition of chart data or bottom detail. This development,
along with C-MAP NT MAX™ for charts will dramatically improve your experience on
the water.
Our award-winning G-PILOT 3380 stole the show at the international Marine
Equipment Trade Show in 2005, and we have extended its functionality by
integrating compatibility with Mercury's Verado engines.
Reliability that’s built-in and
a warranty to match
Our global support team is backed by Navman offices in Europe, USA, Australia
and New Zealand along with a global network of authorised Navman Distributors
throughout Europe, USA, Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and the Pacific,
standing ready to provide assistance – should you need it. Ask about our 5-year flat
rate service plan that is offered free (in some markets) after the 2 year warranty has
expired.
We look forward to serving and exceeding all of your navigation and communication
needs, and hope you have an incredible year on the water.

Notes on information in this catalogue
The images displayed on our chartplotter units use C-Map
cartography. Navman recommends the addition of C-Map to all of
our chartplotters, but emphasise that C-Map cards are optional
and regionally based: For example, a C-Map card for an
Australian area would not have detailed coverage of the UK.
Radar images are taken with Navman Digital Radar using a 6 kW
array.

Navman 8120
It’s the sleek 12-inch navigation
centre that’s designed for the
modern boating experience.
The 8120 is the low-profile, multifunction unit that's been attracting
phenomenal attention at every major boat show. It integrates GPS,
radar, sonar, fuel management and video functionality into a daylight
viewable high-resolution screen.
Chart
Navman’s 32 MB embedded background chart gets you started for
global navigation, or add C-Map’s NT MAX™ card for detailed chart
data, value-added port info and land detail.
Radar
Navman now make radar available with the 8120 and 8084. Navman
High Definition Digital Radar brings advanced digital signal processing,
better target presentation, better clutter rejection, and 10-target
MARPA tracking with your optional Navman Digital Radar (see
page 11).
A.I.S.
Optional Automatic Identification System receivers display vital vessel
information from registered vessels on the chartplotter screen. (See
page 22 for "What is AIS?" and software upgrade information).

Sonar
The 8120 is equipped with a powerful 1 kW (RMS) sounder that
automatically adjusts the output power (1 kW or 600 W) to match the
wattage of your transducer. No separate sounder processor is required.
Simply plug the transducer of choice to the 8120 and you’re up and
running.
Fuel Management
With the 8120, you have on-demand access to your engine’s gasoline
or diesel performance data, as well as SmartCraft™ management for
SmartCraft-enabled Mercury, Mariner or MerCruiser engines (optional
fuel kit / SmartCraft™ gateway required).
Video (PAL/NTSC)
Navman brings video to your helm. Connect a camera up for deck
monitoring, engine room surveillance, even underwater views. Or run
a DVD player or camcorder into the 8120 for infotainment (a separate
audio output system is required for sound).
Navman 8084
When the 8084 was designed, the
objective was clear: Bring everything
the 8120 could do into a compact
unit. Leave nothing out.
And we did it. The result is stunning colour, in
full daylight, using less power than the 8120.
The 8084 still has full SVGA pixel delivery:
it’s still an 800 x 600 pixel colour screen! The
resolution is on a par with many professional
laptop computers on the market today.
The 8084 excels as a complete navigation
package for smaller boats. Navman
Digital Radar combined with C-Map
cartography provides a comprehensive
array of navigational aids, including
chart overlay.
Now, 8120 technology is available
in a tidy, space-saving unit in the
Navman 8084, and you can grow
the 8084’s functionality – video,
radar, fuel, sonar, GPS, AIS – at
your own speed.

8000 Series
Displays
Navman’s expertise at interface design
comes from years of experience with
software development, using the
products on the water and listening to
your valuable feedback.
What makes the 8000 Series unique is that you can
customize your own displays easily, delivering what you
want, when you want it.
The display header can be customised to present the information you want.
The 8000 Series interface allows
you to allocate 1 to 4 panes in your
main window. Favourite screens are
accessed with the PAGE key.
The horizontal and vertical split can be
adjusted to favour certain panes over
others (some complex screens are full
screen only).
Fully customisable digit sizes, colour
palettes and information filters. These
important features allow you to set the
level of detail you require.
NavCam:
Simple Video
The 8000 Series features video input. Practical
ways of using video would be to use an
inexpensive, yet durable camera to watch your
engine room, rear views of your fishing or
water-skiing activities, or monitoring action out
of your line of sight.
Simple, ergonomic controls make industrial strength
technology easy to use.
The NavCam is a small camera that easily
connects to the 8120 or 8084. It not only
delivers full colour to the unit, it also operates
in infrared mode to give you a monochrome
thermal view of the surroundings – a useful
navigation and monitoring tool for night work.

Navman Digital Radar
At Navman we are renowned for our
heritage in GPS development. When
we tackled radar, we wanted the same
core values invested in this technology:
make it reliable, make it easy, and make
it for everyone.
Note: Adding radar to your boat requires at least
two components - the scanner, and the related
processor unit.
When ordering a radar system, please ensure both
the scanner AND processor unit are ordered.
We’ve hired leading radar experts and partnered with an
established radar company to deliver you Navman High
Definition Digital Radar, an accurate and economic choice for
reliable surface detection. Radar’s primary uses are vessel detection
and collision avoidance, particularly in reduced visibility conditions
like darkness, fog and rain.

Presents targets better and
rejects clutter using digital
Sensitivity Time Control
(STC)
Advanced digital signal processing ensures
tracking and chart overlay can be displayed
with confidence. High-resolution data is
retained throughout operation - nothing
is lost.
Screen-clutter from rough weather is
cleared away using sensitivity settings
tailored for specific conditions.
Heading Sensors
Heading sensors provide gyrocompensated data for your radar
processor. A heading sensor
enhances radar image stability,
and is needed for chart overlay
and MARPA functionality.
Both of Navman's radar heading
sensors deliver heading data 10
times a second to your display.
Use HS02, with the integrated
fluxgate compass, for an all-in-one
solution for autopilot functions
and any manufacturer’s radar.
10-target MARPA
MARPA software (see page 12) allows you
to select up to 10 targets and compute
their speeds and directions. You can track
the progress of each target and be alerted
if any of them present a danger.
(MARPA available 2007 with simple software upgrade.)
Use HS03 if you have a steel
boat where the fluxgate compass
should be located separately,
above decks away from the steel
hull.

Understanding RADAR
A ROTATING ASSEMBLY sends
out narrow-beam pulses of high
frequency energy, then ‘listens’
for echoes as these pulses bounce
back from boats, land masses,
buoys, waves, rain particles, birds...
"targets", in radar terms.
The noted angle of the array at
any time a pulse is sent gives the
direction of an echo.
The time it takes to come back gives
the distance.
Navman Digital Radar uses
innovative approaches to preserving
the echo data, so that the best images
available are presented on your
screen. Our high-resolution radar gives
better discrimination of targets. Other
manufacturer's scanners might only
show a target as a single large boat
Different colour palettes allow better distinction of target
returns, depending on viewing conditions.
500 m away, but a Navman Digital
Radar reveals that in reality there are
two boats parked side by side. Because
of our finer data capture techniques,
clutter such as rain or wave noise can
be rejected while preserving critical
target detail.
Adjustable Sensitivity Time Control (STC) curves reject clutter
by setting minimum thresholds that consider return strength
and distance.

MARPA - Collision Avoidance Simplified
Mini-Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (MARPA) is an important featureset in detecting potential hazards.
When activated, you select radar-detected objects. MARPA "watches"
this object for you, presenting its speed and direction. This allows you
to navigate through areas of changeable water, like high-traffic areas in
the dark, or distinguish rocks from moving vessels in low visibility.
MARPA functionality requires a heading sensor for operation (see page
11). For radar-compatible units sold before 2007, talk to your dealer for
upgrade information.

Chart / Radar / AIS
Chart Overlay
A.I.S. Tracking
With C-Map NT MAX™ cartography and an optional heading
sensor, radar brings a wealth of important unchartable
information to the skipper’s attention swiftly and accurately.
This service is a growing necessity for navigation and search
and rescue. AIS receivers reveal AIS-transmitting ships on your
display, bringing additional safety and shipping information to
your helm. See page 22 for more information.
Guard-Zone Alarms
If any target detected by the radar enters a user-defined area on the display, the Navman 8120 or 8084 will alert you to
its presence.
Choosing a scanner
Radomes are small and lightweight, making them ideal for sailboats and powerboats. Consider a radome when space
and power supply is limited.
The 6 kW array delivers better range and detail because of its higher power and narrow beam width.
The effective range of any scanner increases when mounted higher on your boat. The power of a scanner is also an
indicator of its range. A scanner's beam width (the angle at which scanner's signal spreads) indicates how good the
scanner is at target discrimination - a smaller beam width is better.

TRACKER 5607
TRACKER 5507
The TRACKER 5607 offers the ultimate in dedicated Navman
Chartplotters - a full 6.4" VGA ultra-bright screen for critical detail
close to shore.
Navman’s best selling 5" chartplotter has been upgraded again
with a high contrast VGA screen.
The 5607 offers enhanced fuel management options and the
fantastic NT MAX™ cartography from C-Map.
Navman’s ease-of-use philosophy is spearheaded by the
TRACKER 5607’s user interface design. The intuitive MENU key
uses situation logic to display options dependent on the current
situation. Have you just set a waypoint? Then the first menu
option is GOTO. Currently following a route? The menu displays
CANCEL ROUTE. We call it the "Smart Key" because it knows
what you are doing and offers the logical choice for all situations.
Match this unit with the FISH 4607 for a big twin screen chart /
fish set-up.
The built-in 32 MB regional background map still offers reliable
entry-level use, waiting to be enhanced with C-Map’s latest
cartography: NT MAX™. With a 640 x 480 pixel screen, chart
display becomes 4 times sharper than previously released,
reducing eye-fatigue.
In today’s times, fuel management has an enormous focus. With a
range of optional fuel add-ons, your TRACKER 5507 is a powerful

GPS Antennas
Navman is a leading manufacturer of world class Global Positioning System
(GPS) technology.
Since 1988, we have provided a diverse range of navigation technologies across wide ranging industries including
marine, car navigation and fleet tracking. These marine-quality antennas are designed for the elements – the
perfect solution for your navigation requirements.
Both antennas can be installed either as a low profile mount or by using the included base for a rail or pole mount
option.
What is WAAS / EGNOS?
The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and
the soon-to-be-launched European Geostationary
Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) will offer
dramatically increased position accuracy in North
America and Europe respectively. Benefits for the
marine user are much wider coverage compared to the
existing land transmitters like DGPS, less interference
due to weather and electrical interference and most
importantly the differential signals are sent on the same
frequency as the standard GPS signal which means you
no longer need a separate receiver.
1240
12 Channel WAAS/ EGNOSenabled GPS
GPS 1240
Navman’s 1240 antenna is an intelligent 12 channel
WAAS/EGNOS capable GPS receiver - a purposebuilt processor resides in the dome, delivering
fast, post-processed data for our high performance
units to use. NMEA output enables connection to

Choosing between an Integrated
Antenna and an External Antenna for
your TRACKER.
Integrated antennas are perfect for open console and
smaller boats as you can just place them onto the
mounting bracket, plug into power and go. At the end
of the day you can unplug and store the unit safely at
home. Integrated antenna performance is not affected
by soft canopies or windscreens although you should
keep the antenna away from metal windscreen frames.
Fibreglass hardtops are also acceptable provided they
are solid fibreglass and not too thick.
External antennas should be used if there is any
doubt about obstruction of an integrated antenna or if
your mounting position is inside of an enclosed helm
position.

What is A.I.S.?
Automatic Identification System is a way
of identifying a vessel’s position, course and
speed (along with other details like name and
freight) through VHF digital information. This
information is displayed on your chartplotter.
Not only do the 8000 units support AIS, but theTRACKER 5607 and
TRACKER 5507 are able to bring this important navigation and safety
aid to your vessel.
How Does it Work?
All AIS information is transmitted by vessels and AIS navigation aids
equipped with VHF transponders - a unit able to receive and transmit
AIS data. Transmitting vessels tend to be commercial ships legally
required to transmit AIS data.
Your AIS receiver listens to those transmissions. The
receiver sends appropriate data to your AIS-chartplotter
(8120, 8084, 5607, 5507) and is presented on your chart.
Once received, this information is plotted onto your chart. This
provides invaluable information that works alongside radar to establish
target clarification and potential collision avoidance.
Why do I need to receive AIS information?
Do I Need to Upgrade for AIS?
Due to VHF’s longer wavelength, AIS has particular use in identifying
targets that may be obscured by poor visibility, or behind larger targets
like low islands and large ships that radar can’t penetrate.
For Navman 8120 units sold before Early 2007, you may need
to upgrade your software to use AIS. You can download the upgrade
free from www.plastimo.com. Using an SD card writer you can load the
upgrade on an SD card, then load the card into your unit.
A.I.S. transmission is a requirement in European waters for commercial
vessels above 300 tonnes and all new commercial vessels built after
2002. However AIS reception is freely available to anyone with
an AIS receiver. It’s expected that more maritime organisations will
adopt AIS as a compulsory navigation aid in the future. Contact your
nearest Coast Guard or maritime regulatory body for more information.
22
All other AIS-capable units come AIS-ready. No upgrade is
necessary.
Please contact your local dealer for more information
concerning an AIS receiver.
Navman & C-Map:

FISH 4607
The FISH 4607 delivers powerful dual frequency performance
on an incredible 640 x 480 pixel colour display.
The 4607 has numerous sounder display options including split
and full screen zoom, A-scope and a choice of white, blue or
black background. There’s also a choice of colour palettes to
highlight bottom structure or a particular fish species.
When purchased with an optional fuel kit, the FISH 4607 will
let you track and display fuel data on screen — another feature
unique to Navman.
Its state of the art digital sonar technology delivers incredible
target detail and high definition bottom structure in shallow and
deep water.
Life is easy with Navman’s automatic range and gain settings:
choose "Cruise" for high speed performance and "Fish" once
you’ve reached your favourite fishing spot. Even beginners will
find it easy to step up a level to the manual sounder settings with
clear, on-screen adjustments.
The Vertical Value
When bottom detail becomes critical in identifying
species’ habitat, or for navigating a way through
coral reefs and uncharted channels, you need
greater detail in the vertical column. The FISH 4607
and 4507 have 4 times the screen pixels of previous
large screen models, making them an ideal choice
for all boaters needing detailed information.
High detail also means better target definition for
blue water fishing. Low-resolution devices might
identify schools of fish, but high-resolution devices
will aid in determining if they’re small schools of big
fish, or large schools of small fish.
FISH 4380 / FISH 4350
The FISH 4380 and FISH 4350 are two compact, yet powerful,
digital colour sounders that offer unmatched screen detail.
Both units feature Navman’s proprietary SBNII digital sounder
technology to improve the quality of the sonar images displayed
on screen. The FISH 4350 and FISH 4380 also offer the fisherman
a choice of advanced sonar displays such as A-scope, split-screen
variable zoom and a choice of colour palettes.
The 256-colour spectrum shows at a glance the true nature
of the bottom structure and target detail to help identify
habitat. Navman’s FISH 4350 and FISH 4380 deliver full colour
performance at a great price.

Insufficient Gain:
Excessive Gain:
Correct Gain:
In the example, the bottom echo does not
display enough information to judge the
bottom hardness and the snags echo is so weak
as to appear as part of the bottom sounding.
There are no visible fish echoes.
This screen is cluttered with echoes from
particles in the water column. The bottom
display is blocked out showing no detail and
the snag (an old tree) is displayed as part of the
bottom.
Using the correct gain setting the screen is
still clean, however fish echoes are clearly
displayed.
SLOW Ping Rate
FAST Ping Rate
Frequency Explained
The Fast Ping-Rate Advantage
With a fast ping-rate fishfinder the display will show strong returns for
all targets, even those on the limit of the sonar cone. Additionally, the
trolling speed can be increased without missing potential fish targets.
(Illustration depicting enhanced sonar coverage with high ping rate
fishfinder.)
200 kHz
50/200 kHz
Single vs Dual Frequency
The narrow beam is 200 kHz display with high resolution typically used
in shallow water and for better definition of schools of pelagic fish in the
mid-water column.
Alternatively a wide beam 50 kHz is used for deeper waters to provide
better bottom penetration when searching for deep water species.

Grayscale Fishfinders
Dual Frequency: FISH 4433 / 4432
Pixels, Power and Ping-rate. Navman’s range of
grayscale fishfinders offer outstanding performance in
each category:
• 360 x 240 pixels for best target definition
• 250 W RMS output power for excellent depth
performance
• 50 soundings per second (or pings) for greater
coverage.
The FISH 4432 offers depth and temperature features

AUTOPILOTS
G-Pilot 3100: Simply
Powerful
We believe that your autopilot should not only be simple to use and
configure, but also provide a smooth ride for those on board. To that
end we supply as standard a rate gyro in every Navman G-PILOT,
which ensures the unit provides superior course holding in the
widest range of sea and wind conditions.
What is Rate Gyro?
Navman's Rate Gyro is a rate-of-turn sensor that provides a superior
means of monitoring a vessel's heading. Changes in boat heading
(yaw) are instantaneously measured and corrected by the GPILOT's rudder control. With Navman's G-PILOT, the gyro is used in
conjunction with a fluxgate compass to provide accurate steering on
all vessels, by minimising rudder movement and as a result reducing
fuel costs.

complete rewrite of pilot display functionality.
The rotary control dial allows a course to be set with ease, as well as
providing a user-friendly interface to the menu selections.
Surrounding the dial are port and starboard LED’s that indicate course
adjustments. At a single glance from across the cabin or cockpit, the
skipper gets general steering confirmation, even in the dark of night.
One-button dodge and jog keys, easy selection of 90° / 180° turns
and tack / gybe selection make controlling your boat a breeze. We’ve
32
utilized the graphical capabilities to provide unique on-screen animations
of the vessel’s intended actions and progress through a turn.
Based on our award winning core-pack with gyro technology standard,
this pilot is compatible with existing G-PILOT 3100 systems. Upgrade

Instruments
Simple Installation
We know what sailors and power-boaters need in marine
instrumentation: big, bold digits that you can read at a glance
across the deck of your boat in fine weather and bad.
Installation is as simple as drilling a 2" / 50 mm diameter hole in
your bulkhead and tightening the screw-thread locking nut by
hand. There’s no need for drilling templates, nuts or bolts and the
built-in over-moulding provides a completely waterproof front
fascia without additional sealant.
So we’ve used super wide-angle monochrome displays and
fantastic 1.5" / 38 mm digits to deliver a complete range of
instrumentation suitable for any wheelhouse, bridge or cockpit.

Fuel Management
FUEL 3100
In addition to providing complete management of your vessel’s fuel flow and fuel
remaining, Navman’s Fuel 3100 utilizes speed data from GPS or paddlewheel input to
calculate real-time fuel economy data. The Fuel 3100 can be programmed to display these
values in nautical miles (and miles) per gallon or litre.
This important information allows you to determine the optimum throttle and trim settings
for single and twin engine boats. This will save you money on fuel and minimize long-term
engine wear by running your engines at their most efficient settings.
Diagnosing engine faults and propeller damage is easy by comparing economy values over
time. When used in twin-engine installations, the FUEL 3100 allows you to compare the
individual flow rates of each engine to achieve maximum synchronization.

Will it work with my diesel engine?
Navman’s diesel system has been designed to be
installed and operate on most diesel engines in the
100 to 400 horsepower range. However, the key
specification is the fuel flow rate through the engine.
(Note: this is not the consumption rate).
For the system to work accurately, the flow in the
supply pipe to the engine must be less than 400 litres
per hour. The flow in the return pipe back to the tank
must be more than 25 litres per hour.

DSC – Instant Distress
calls & digital Messaging
Digital Selective Calling is a component of the international distress
and safety system GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety
System). When connected with a GPS, the time, precise location and
unique ID of the vessel in trouble is broadcast when the DISTRESS
button is pressed. When GDMSS is fully implemented, Channel 16
will not be required to be monitored. Small boats without a DSC
equipped radio could find that no-one is listening for their distress
call.
With DSC, the boater can also send and receive messages digitally.
You can efficiently transmit and receive communications between
one selected vessel, a group of vessels or ship-to-shore. To do this,
each user will be assigned a unique MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service
Identity) number that will allow users to dial a specific location, similar
to dialing a telephone number.

1700 VHF Antenna: 2.5 m Ultraglass antenna with stainless
steel ferule, fast-fit connectors and 5 m cable. Fits Navman’s 1800
and 1805 mounts or any industry standard mount
VHF ANTENNAS
Navman’s range of innovative VHF antennas are
not only tested in the most extreme conditions
but also pass the rigorous International
Standard for salt mist exposure. With this kind
of durability and reliability built-in, you can
enjoy years of trouble free performance.
1710 VHF Antenna: 2.5 m Ultraglass antenna with stainless
steel ferule and quick-fit design. Fits Navman’s 1810 or 1815
mount.
1720 VHF Masthead Antenna: 1.1 m stainless steel
masthead antenna with stainless steel bracket. Full performance
antenna designed for mast-head use, supplied with PL259
connectors. This requires an additional 30 m extension cable
Navman’s 1710, 1740, 1750 and 1770 antennas feature a uniquely
designed quick-fit "no cable" mount system that enables the antenna
to be simply unscrewed from the base, leaving the coaxial cable
attached to the mount. This means the antenna can be removed
quickly and conveniently without the hassle of dealing with the cable.
You can keep your antenna safely stored when not in use or remove
for travel, adding years to the life of the antenna.
VHF Antennas
1750 VHF Antenna: 1.2 m Ultraglass antenna with nylon
ferule and quick-fit design. Fits Navman’s 1840 and 1850 mounts.
1770 VHF Antenna: 1.1 m Ultraglass antenna with nylon
ferule and quick-fit design. Fits Navman’s 1840 and 1850 mounts.
More flexible construction than the 1750 antenna.

Back pressure generated by the gasoline/ petrol fuel sensor on the feed line: ½ inch/ mercury with a 75 liter/ hour consumption, 1 inch/ mercury with a
150 liter/ hour consumption.
Always be careful not to exceed the maximum back pressure for your engine when adding additional components to a fuel system. If in doubt, check with
your engine supplier and have your local dealer measure the existing back pressure in your system before fitting the fuel flow sensor.

Service & Warranty
Navman products are built tough for the
world’s most testing marine environments,
so you can be confident they will provide
many years of trouble free use. In the event
that you damage the product or if it needs to be
serviced you have a strong and committed team
of professionals waiting and ready to help.
Navman Warranty
Navman warrants that the products will be free from
defects in materials or workmanship under normal use
for two (2) years from the date of purchase. To be eligible
for the full two (2) years warranty you will need to register
the product.
Flat Rate After Warranty Repair Program
The flat rate after warranty repair program means that for a
further five (5) years after purchasing the product, the original
purchaser can have their Navman product repaired for no more
than the maximum rates (conditions apply). These rates are
considerably less expensive than the cost to repair the product
and effectively extend the service program to seven years from date
of purchase.
This is further tribute to our commitment to after sales service and
something exclusive to the Navman’s range of marine electronics.
