Editor’s Note
This is CCCR’s first edition of Coastalbreeze.
A shorter version of Coastalaire, the focus of
Coastalbreeze will be coming events, and will
be published digitally the months of February,
March, May, June, August, September, November and December. Coastalaire will be published
both digitally and in hard copy the months of
January, April, July, and October, and will continue to feature articles about CCCR members,
club social and touring events, racing events,
technical information, and other Porsche related
stories of interest.
By adding Coastalbreeze to our publication
schedule, we will return to publishing a monthly
newsletter without an increase in cost and without overly burdening our volunteer editors with a
full-volume edition of Coastalaire every month.
And we hope that by doing more with less, you
and anyone interested will be more informed
about our club activities.
Once again, Art Trinidade and I are always looking for good stories and good photographs for
Coastalaire. Everyine in CCCR is a potential
contributor. Please, at any time, offer us your
stories and photographs. We can never have too
much.

If you have yet to enjoy
this event, you don’t want
to miss it!
Jim Collins says, “You don’t want to
miss the appetizers.
Memosas and cinnamon rolls!”
Only $20 per person
Because of logistical and food-preparation reasons, this is a rain-or-shine event.
So that the Pozo Saloon staff can prepare enough food we will need to know
how many people will be eating.
You must RSVP and mail a check for $20 per person
no later than February 15th.

Autocross Academy March 12
Come join us…at our third
annual Autocross Academy on
Saturday, March 12th.
Yes, due to the popularity of this
event, we will again be holding a
full day of instruction at the autocross facility, located at the Santa
Maria Airport.
The academy begins at 8:00AM with a 90 minute “ground
school”, held at the Jet Center. Basics of autocross will be
discussed. From there, we will head to the track for a series
of three driving skills: Acceleration and braking, driving
through a slalom, and navigating around a skid pad. That
takes us to the lunch period, where we will have a “chalk
talk” and discuss things learned to that point.
Autocross is a timed competition in which
drivers navigate through a defined course
marked by cones. It differs from road racing
in that there is only one car on the course at a
time. It is considered an entry level form of
motorsport, and can be enjoyed by all Porsche
owners. Original factory safety equipment is
adequate for this type of competition, with the
addition of a helmet, which can be supplied by
the Club.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
We welcome anyone who has always wanted to
drive their incredible Porsche machines safely
in a competitive environment.
You will be assigned a personal instructor for
the entire day! That’s right, we have recruited
the best drivers in our sport to be with you all
day, providing instruction while sitting in your
car with you. (This is almost the best part!)
The Coastalbreeze February 2016
After lunch? You get to put to use what you’ve learned for
the remainder of the day. With your instructor by your side,
you get to drive the course that has been set up. You will get
ten timed runs during the afternoon sessions. The academy
will end around 4:00PM.
Feedback has been extremely favorable.
“I had no idea my car could perform like that!”.
“It made me a lot better driver in only one day.”
“I learned the limits of my car.”
“It was VERY fun! I’ll definitely be out again!”
It is limited to only thirty participants, and in each of the
past two years, the event has sold out very quickly, so don’t
delay in signing up. Go to www.motorsportreg.com and
follow the prompts.
So, what are you waiting for?! Come and join us on Saturday, March 12th. You’ll be glad you did.

Featival of Speed Weekend • April 8-10
In April, 2015, Tom Dobyns
wrote, “I had a blast at the
Festival of Speed (FOS) at
Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. . . . I decided to sign up
for the time trial and run my
GT3. I had never run at this
site, and now that I’m writing
this piece, I have to tell you it
was the MOST FUN I’ve ever
had driving my car in a race
environment. . . . The whistle
blew and we were off. . . .
The cars in front of me took
off. I had to keep up. Dare I
look down? It says 140 mph!
Yikes! I’ve never been that
fast (on the ground) in my life!
. . . Here comes the banked
Turn One and Turn Two! . .
.Whew! I made it! Back on the
gas! Golly, now I need to slam
on the brakes and make a hard
left onto the road course again.
From 130 mph down to 40
mph in about three seconds.
And so it went. . . .
It was great to have other
CCCR members come out and
cheer me on. Hopefully next
year we will have more folks
sign up to drive in the time
trial.”
It was indeed great fun to
watch one of our own members run the track and move up
in position. And we were allowed to meet Tom in the pits
between runs sessions to share
some of his excitment.
At this time, we don’t know
who among our members
might be driving in this event.
We hope to see Tom or some
other of our members concour
the track.

Mission Inn and Spa in Riverside • April 8-9
As like last year, Chuck Stevenson has reserved us a block
of ten great rooms at a special low rate of $140 per night,
substantially lower than the usual rates. To secure a room,
call for reservations at (9510 784-0300. Tell them you are
with the California Central Coast Region of PCA. Check
out their website for more details at www.missioninn.
com.
There are several wonderful restaurants in and very near
the Inn. Duane’s Prime Steaks & Seafood is a AAA Four
Diamoond rated restaurant. Dining under the stars is
avaible at the Mission Inn Restaurant on the beautiful
interior Spanish court/patio.Wonderful Mexican cuisine is
available at the outdoor lush garden setting at Las Campanas. And great Italian food is available at Bella Trattoria
Italian Bestro.
Last year was our club’s most well attended
California Festival of Speed event at the
Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Thanks
to Chuck Stevenson, the accommodations
clearly contributed to an increase in interest.
Chuck reserved a few choice rooms at a much
reduced rate at the famous Mission Inn Hotel
and Spa in Riverside, and arranged times for
us to meet for social hours and dinner groups.
Approximately 30 CCCR members attended,
and we had a wonderful time. Folks have
been asking if we are going again this year.
And we are.
For those of you who may not want to spend all day at the
race track, Chuck is also planning some local wine tasting
and other quality activities. For more information, contact
Chuck Stevenson at 805-459-9493.
The Mission Inn and Spa accommodated its
first guests in 1876. Evoking the enchantment
of a European castle commplete with flying buttresses, lofty domes, and towers, this
is an iconic AAA Four-Diamond hotel and
National Historic Landmark. While remaining true to its Spanish heritage, it has been
carefully restored and enhanced for not only
your comfort but for a truely elegant aesthetic
experience not to be missed.
