OMG, LOL, HMU: Effectively Connecting with Teenage Volunteers
Teenage volunteers are often a feared resource in a museum setting. Will they use appropriate language?
Remain at their station? Remain calm in difficult situations? Or have the maturity to handle complex
projects? The answer to these questions is a resounding yes. With a thorough training, specific guidelines,
and a strong working relationship, teenagers can become a favorite part of a museum workforce. This
session will cover training techniques, management, disciplinary measures, and will examine specific
cases to explain how we effectively use Junior Volunteers within our own organization.
