The Indianapolis Racquet Club welcomes all types of
players, including the club, tournament, and professional player. Extensive adult and junior programs are
offered for all ages and skill levels, including a junior
tournament players program. Our professional teaching staff is both dedicated and experienced, offering
the best in quality instruction with proven results.
Established in 1965, the Indianapolis Racquet Club (IRC) Dean Road was Indiana’s first and largest indoor tennis
club. With the addition of the East Club in 1975, IRC increased the number of indoor tennis courts to 24.
As a member, you can become part of the Indianapolis Racquet Club’s 49 year history of tennis excellence.

Walk-on privileges are based on court availability and
allow a player the use of a court at a nominal fee
without making an advanced reservation.
Mandatory check-in at the front desk and payment is
required before going on court.

Payment for all Summer Play Passes must be made in advance
and may not be charged to a member account. Refunds are not
offered on Summer Play Passes and play prior to a pass purchase

PLAY PASS BENEFITS:
1 Summer Play Pass holders may reserve a
court for up to 1½ hours for singles or 2
hours for doubles per day.
Singles play may be extended an additional ½ hour if time
permits. Players wishing to use a ball machine will be limited to 1
hour of court time but may extend the reservation if time permits.
Pass covers pass holders court fee only.

Ball machines are available for use on a first-come,
first-serve basis. There is no extra charge for the use of
a ball machine (if available), with the exception of
East Club adult walk-ons. To ensure the safety of players, first time ball machine users must receive assistance from an IRC staff member. Ball machine
requests must be made when making a court reservation to ensure availability.
The Summer Play Pass allows members the
opportunity to have unlimited court usage and
access to select pay-as-you-play coached
groups at no additional cost.

IRC members may reserve court time in advance by
phone or in person. Courts are reserved on a
first-come, first-serve basis. When reserving a court,
be prepared to give your name, phone number,
number of players and guests, along with any ball
machine requests.

JUNIOR PROGRAM REGISTRATION
& BILLING POLICY
IRC strives to create a productive, instructional environment for all students by keeping the player to teaching
pro ratio at an acceptable level. Therefore, we require
SUMMER 2014
advanced registration for all groups and advanced
payment (summer only members) for all groups. Players who do not pre-register may be restricted from play if participation will negatively affect our student to teaching pro ratio.
IRC understands that other activities may conflict with your tennis commitment; however, no credits or make-ups
will be issued for missed classes. To accommodate players’ schedules, IRC offers three types of registration for
each class:
1) Entire Summer Option: This option covers the player for the entire summer season in a specific program, with
the benefit of a discount for registering for the entire summer.
a) Players must register prior to the first day of the program to receive the special pricing.
b) Program costs must be paid in full and charges may not be put on a Member Charge Account.
c) Credits will not be issued for missed clinics or any other reason.
2) Weekly or Series Option: This option covers the player for the scheduled week or series dates. Players are committing to the entire series and/or week of play.
Players must notify the Member Services Office of their commitment to play at the time of registration. No adjustments to that commitment may be made once the week or session of play begins. Notification to the teaching
pro is not sufficient and will not be honored. All communication regarding registration must be done with the
Member Services Office. No exceptions.
IRC reserves the right to alter or cancel a group for any reason deemed necessary including, but not limited to,
price, assigned teaching professionals, age, location or skill level.

3) Single Day Option: This option allows players to select a single day of play. Players may select up to 2 days per
week using the single day option for week to week programs and up to 4 days for session coached groups.
Notification of the single day must be given at the time of registration.

JUNIOR RATINGS GUIDE
LEVEL 1
Player is just beginning to play tennis. May have had some introductory tennis lessons.
The QuickStart format will be used for players ages 6-10.
LEVEL 2
Beginning to play sets and understands scoring. Needs to develop strokes and serve.
Needs more instruction and practice.
LEVEL 3
Plays sets. Improvement through practice and instruction. Should consider playing
competitively. Can place the ball in the court with some consistency.
LEVEL 4
Same as Level 3 but should begin playing competitively. Can place the ball in the
court with some accuracy. Consistent first and second serve.
LEVEL 5
Player is competing in tournaments and on school teams. Working on a ranking at
district level. Can place the ball with consistency. Has begun to master the use of spin.
LEVEL 6
May have a district ranking or is working towards attaining one in appropriate age
group. Can hit shots with spin and pace. Consistent ball placement.
LEVEL 7
Ranked in district, Midwest, or has possible national ranking in appropriate age group.
Emphasis on college prep play.

New classes begin approximately every 6 weeks.
USA Tennis is an introductory, instructional program for adults. It is designed to teach basic skills quickly in a group
environment. Classes meet once a week for 1½ hours of on-court instruction. Players may participate in up to
three 6-week sessions before an IRC membership is required.
*First-time members to IRC who have participated in at least two six-week series within a six-month period are eligible for a 50% discount on an IRC adult
membership. Players have up to 6 months after completing their last six-week series to take advantage of the discount.
Each series consists of 6 - 1½ hour group lessons that meet once a week.

Groups are held at IRC Dean Road unless listed with the
symbol (E), indicating play at IRC East Club.

LEAGUES
1) Pay-as-you-play: These groups are indicated with a
single per session price. Pay-as-you-play availability
is based on the number of available courts for that particular group (availability may change daily). It is
recommended that players arrive early to register to ensure availability. Membership is not required for payas-you-play groups; however, IRC members will have priority.
2) Cardio Tennis: These tennis groups are indicated by a 6-week series price. Players commit to the entire 6 weeks
of play. Cardio tennis focuses on drill work designed to elevate your heart rate and provide a cardiovascular
workout.

At least 5 participants are required to start a series. Players may form their own group of 5 or more players or join an existing group.

3) USA Grads: These groups are scheduled in a series format with players committing in advance to the entire
series of play. Credits will not be issued for missed clinics; however, players will have the opportunity to makeup missed classes in the alternate day program (not guaranteed, based on available space).

your skills against other players of similar playing abilities. Singles, doubles, and mixed leagues are available to get your competitive juices flowing.

DEDICATED TEACHING STAFF
IRC is proud to have an outstanding group of professional tennis instructors. Our teaching professionals
work with students in IRC Programs, individual or
group lessons, as well as seasonal courts.
Private lessons allow for individualized instruction at a
time that works with any schedule. Players may
request an individual lesson or may join several other
players for a private group lesson. Please contact the
individual teaching professional for scheduling information.
All private lesson cancellations must be done directly
with the teaching professional at least 24 hours in
advance. “No-shows” and late cancellations will be
charged the applicable court time and, at the pro’s
discretion, may be charged the lesson fee.
Guests may take up to three lessons before an IRC
membership is required.
