Bixby Spartan Football will be respected as the very best program in 6A at developing young men.
Dear Spartan Faithful,
We are pleased to be writing the last newsletter of
2014 as the Oklahoma 6AII State Champions. Your
2014 Bixby Spartans brought home our first Gold Ball
th
to Bixby on December 5 with a 35-21 dominating
victory over the Lawton Wolverines.
Your Spartans finished a 12-1 season with a
convincing victory over Lawton to win the first Class
6AII crown in Oklahoma. We also were perfect in
district play winning district 6AII-1 outright. Our
players are garnering numerous post-season
accolades, and no doubt many of our graduating
seniors will receive athletic scholarships for both
their athletic and academic accomplishments at
Bixby High School.
We couldn’t be more proud of this group of seniors.
We had 23 seniors who trusted the process, had
faith, and ultimately came out on top. These seniors

were merely 7 graders when we arrived in Bixby in
March of 2010. Many of whom, began the journey

As many of you know, our strength and conditioning
program is a pillar of the Bixby Spartan Football
program. With the addition of in school S&C as well
as a full time strength coach, the majority of our
players made strength gains during the football
season.
When we return from break, we will have two more
weeks of post-season work before we ramp into full
blown off-season. All football players will continue to
be enrolled in S&C during their school day. This will
allow our two sport athletes to continue training
throughout the spring. Coach Gilligan will obviously
have them on an in-season program that coordinates
with each athlete’s second sport.
There is a reason the Gold Ball reception was held in
the weight room. The weight room is where the
journey began. This year we truly wore teams in the
fourth quarter. It is true, “Champions are made in
the off-season.”

I would also like to thank all the members of our
coaching staff who have diligently stayed the course.
These truly are a group of men who have committed
their lives to teaching young athletes what it means to
be disciplined, have integrity, sacrifice for something
bigger than self, and have the courage to stand alone.
These guys have not only sacrificed time away from
their families, but many have turned down more
lucrative job offers from other programs in order to see
this plan come to fruition.
We would like to thank our QBC for providing all the
necessary resources required to make our players
successful. It takes a lot of extra effort that is above
and beyond to make our program successful. Our
Quarterback Club has made the commitment to meet
the growing needs of a 6A football program! This year
our QBC took on mammoth projects like helping fund
our new strength facility, and is working to help
subsidize a portion of the State Championship Rings!
Finally, hats off to Kelly Johnston and all of our parents
who contributed to a wonderful end of season
banquet. Everyone had a wonderful time, we got to
celebrate our seniors, and the food was excellent! This
was a beautiful end to a magical season. It truly is a
great day to be a Spartan!
