Gala Day
Fundraiser
This years focus for the Pokeno
School Gala Day on Saturday 5th
December, is “to raise the Walls” of
the roof top area. Currently the school
has no large enclosed area, meaning
that events like assemblies have to
take place in a classroom. By
fundraising for removable walls, we
hope to make this a versatile all year
space.
If you wish to help with donations,
please email the Pokeno School PTA.
We would love to hear from you.

Dear Friends,
Reading an article on The Real Wisdom I came across the following:
" Better a kind of fool than a proud wise man."
"Talk does not cook rice."
" A half-truth is a whole truth."
" All are not hunters that blow the horn."
"A little too late, much too late."
"Giving advice to a fool is like giving medicine to a dead man."
"He who knows little, soon repeats it."
"The cat is a lion to the mouse."
" Who gossips to you will gossip of you."
These are some of the sayings of men and women from all over the world. Truths proved by their own
experience.
May God Bless us All,
Kumar

A note from Mr J…
Term three is quickly passing us by, and the tradition of wet weather coinciding with crosscountry once again lived up to its reputation! As always we were extremely grateful for the
use of the McRobbies farm for our school event. Unfortunately due to the temperature
plummeting on the day we made the decision to only take the senior children across. The
children approached it with their usual enthusiasm and energy. It was particularly pleasing watching the way the
children supported each other, especially those children who find cross-country challenging.
We then took a group of children through to Mangatangi for East Group cross-country. This course is a tough course
with a number of steep hills and muddy crossings, I often need a sit down just watching the kids!! We had 28 children
place in the top 10 of their year group!! A great effort! 18 of those children will now represent East Group at the
Franklin event at the A & P showgrounds in Pukekohe. We wish them luck and know that they will make us proud.
At the time of writing this, the Franklin Arts Festival was about to open in the Pukekohe Town Hall. I would like to
thank Sarah Quinlan for the amazing work she has done with a group of children to prepare self-portraits under the
theme of belonging. This stunning artwork will be displayed in the school at the conclusion of the festival.
I would also like to thank everyone who supported the PTA with the catering for the festival. This is a great fundraising
opportunity for our school, but can only be achieved by everyone working together.
POKENO SCHOOL 150th JUBILEE
18th – 20th March 2016
Have a great month,
Blair Johnston, Principal
A WORD FROM OUR MP LINDSAY TISCH
New Zealand’s diverse and resilient economy Because of hard-working
New Zealanders and National’s responsible economic management, we
have a stronger, more diverse economy.
It is much more resilient than when we first came into office seven years
ago, it’s better placed to deal with global challenges, and our long-term
prospects remain strong.
Dairy farmers are doing it tough right now, but many other industries are doing well.
Horticulture exports are worth just over $4 billion and red meat export returns reached a record high of
$2.53 billion. International education is supporting more than 30,000 jobs in New Zealand, and exports of
IT software and services have grown at 14 per cent a year for the past six years.
The hard-work and entrepreneurship of Kiwis, together with the Government’s clear economic plan and
careful financial management, has our country in good shape.
Constituents wishing to make contact with me or to arrange an appointment to meet with me can do
so by calling my Te Kauwhata Office on 07 826 4198.
