Directors
The ANDDA Total Performer Program is intended to be for those does that are winning in the ring,
are on DHIA, performed One Day Milk Tests and have been Appraised and/or Classified. It is an
ANDDA Program that is designed to be won by the elite animals that use these "measuring sticks"
offered through AGS and ADGA.
The ANDDA Total Performer Program will be open to any ANDDA member and will be awarded to
one doe annually... Goats that are entered are ranked from first to last in each of several statistical
categories. Points are then awarded according to the order of finish in each category and are totaled to determine an overall score and place.
So, if you are in a 12-goat contest, the goat with the most pounds of milk on a one day milk test
receives 12 points, the goat with the second most receives 11 points, and so on. In the case of a
tie, each goat involved receives an average of the total points due. So, in the above example, if
two goats were tied for first in one day milk test pounds, each would receive 11.5 points [(12 +
11) / 2 = 11.5].
Therefore, the maximum number of points that a goat can earn is equal to the number of scoring
categories within a contest multiplied by the number of goats in the contest. Similarly, the lowest
number of points that a goat can earn is equal to the number of scoring categories multiplied by
one, which is the lowest score that can be achieved in any category.
Eastern Director (08):
Cheryl A. Sugar
2401 Lovejoy Rd
So, if the goat was competing in a contest with 12 goats and 14 scoring categories, the lowest
point total possible is 14 [14 * 1 = 14] and the highest is 168 [14 * 12 = 168].

FROM
THE
DESK
OF THE
PRESIDENT
WANDA CLARK
Hello, ANDDA members...most of you are somewhere in your kidding season- 'getting ready' to 'all
finished'. I wish you all just what you were looking for in those fall breedings. Sometimes nature throws us a
curve ball and we don't make the progress we thought we'd get. I am amazed at the depth of quality we are
seeing in the ND breed- keep it up!
Lots of you are planning to Display in Kentucky at the ADGA Nationals (July 12-19). Bring those beautiful
DAIRY ND’s to show off....but please remember- NO bucks in the show barn. And for those of you in midAmerica and the West Coast, the '09 ADGA Nationals are planned for Sacremento, CA, and the 2010 show
“may” be in Minnesota, according to a member of the National Show Committee.
Speaking of National Shows, the AGS Nationals/ Convention will be in California this year. Good Luck to all
attending!
Now, some food for thought. Some people have pet names for our breed, and that's okay - within the breed.
But I want respect for my goats, they are hard working DAIRY goats....so when referring to them in the public venue, I prefer they be called by their proper name-' Nigerian Dwarf'. I will settle for 'Nigerian', or 'ND' if
written down...too many of those pet names are in the same category as 'pygmy'...and the pygmy is universally considered a pet-type goat. So let's think about the big picture when referring to our wonderful miniature goats- they deserve respect!
With fuel costs going up, up, up - showing will become more expensive. Take a look at Classification (AGS)
or Linear Appraisal (ADGA) for your goats if showing is becoming a financial burden. Those scores are great
learning tools for the direction of your future breedings and they are also a good promotional tool.

BYLAWS AMENDMENT VOTE:
EXPLANATION:
The ANDDA Board has approved a proposed amendment to the Constitution, Article VI: Elections, Section 1: Nominations. This amendment requires approval by the membership and must pass by a 2/3
majority of members voting. The current C/BL limits the number of candidates in a regular election
to "two nominees for each position". In the DAL election, we had THREE candidates. How exciting to have involved members,
but this cannot happen under the current C/BL in a regular election. The Constitution does not define the rules for a special
election, and one nominee stepped down, so it worked out ok. But it did point out how problematic this could be. What if you
get 3 or 4 nominations and what if they arrive on the same day? Who decides which two of those get to be nominated? And
why would we want to limit the number of nominees from the membership? The proposed amendment does not limit the number of nominees allowed.
Many bylaws specify only that an Election Committee is responsible for finding ONE candidate for each position and the membership may nominate others. This ensures, hopefully, that there is a candidate for each position. But that brought to mind
another issue -- what if the Committee CAN'T find a candidate and the membership does not nominate anyone? The Constitution simply states that the Committee must find a nominee but does not give any options if this doesn't happen. The proposed change would allow the Board to appoint a Board Member, after an election, if none are nominated during the process,
which at least gives some alternative other than leaving the position empty until the next election. I suspect and hope that
this would be extremely rare but it gives the Board a procedure to use in a worst case.
CURRENT Section is as follows: ARTICLE VI – ELECTIONS Section 1 - Nominations:
By April 1, the President, subject to approval by the Board of Directors, shall appoint an Election Committee. The duties of this
committee will commence by seeking nominations for all positions to be filled from the membership. A postal survey is to be
mailed to all members by April 1 (this can be included in the Association's newsletter if its mailing schedule allows) soliciting
nominations. Nominations will close (must be received by the Election Chairperson or other individual as determined by the
Election committee and approved by the Board of Directors) May 1 and two nominees for each position, as long as they are
eligible as provided in this Constitution and are willing to accept the position, shall be placed on a ballot to be mailed to the
membership no later than May 15. In the event that two candidates are not nominated, eligible or willing to run, it is acceptable to have one candidate for that position. If no nominated candidates are eligible or willing to run, it is the responsibility of
the Election Committee to secure a candidate for the position.
You will be voting to approve or disapprove the following amendment:
Amendment to Constitution: Article VI: Elections - Amend Section 1 - Nominations to read
By April 1, the President, subject to approval by the Board of Directors, shall appoint an Election Committee. The duties of this
committee will commence by seeking nominations for all positions to be filled from the membership. A postal survey is to be
mailed to all members by April 1 soliciting nominations. Nominations may be made by mail or email, and must be received by
the Election Committee Chairperson (or other individual as determined by the Election committee and approved by the Board
of Directors) by May 1. All nominees for each position, as long as they are eligible as provided in this Constitution and are
willing to accept the position, shall be placed on a ballot to be mailed to the membership no later than May 15. If no nominated candidates are eligible or willing to run, it is the responsibility of the Election Committee to secure a candidate for the
position. If no candidate can be secured, the Board may at any time after the election appoint someone to the position to serve
until the next election.

INTRODUCING ANDDA
The American Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Association (ANDDA) was formed to promote the recognition and improvement of Nigerian Dwarf goats as a productive dairy breed and to help breeders increase their understanding of dairy conformation and their
expertise in the care and management of miniature dairy goats.
Of course, Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats make wonderful pets. Breeders and pet owners alike appreciate their small size, neat,
colorful appearance, and docile, affectionate temperament. However, functionality and reproductive vigor are the twin cornerstones of intelligent breeding programs for any species or breed of domestic animal; which means, for Nigerians, striving toward the all-important goal of excellence in dairy character and conformation. All breeders who share this concept of the breed
do not necessarily routinely milk their does.
The ANDDA aims to serve the needs of anyone who has a serious interest in the milking potential of Nigerian Dwarf goats, who
would like to learn more about dairy conformation and dairy character in the "scaled-down' versions and/or who simply appreciates the beauty, elegance, and reproductive soundness of a dairy-proportioned Nigerian Dwarf goat.
ANDDA was instrumental in getting the Nigerian Dwarf recognized as a true dairy breed by the American Dairy Goat Association. ANDDA acts as the breed representative to ADGA and AGS. The club sponsors advertising to promote the breed and provides educational/promotional materials to introduce the breed to newcomers to Nigerians and to provide newcomers with
information on the breed.
ANDDA sponsors All-American and Total Performer programs to provide recognition to excellence in breed programs and
sponsors Nigerian Dwarf Specialty competition at dairy goat shows.
Your membership includes a newsletter with discounted advertising for members and a listing on the club's web page at
http://www.andda.org. ANDDA's Yahoo group provides a venue for Nigerian Dwarf goat breeders to share information with
other club members ([email protected])

Membership Referral Contest for 2008 !
It is with great pleasure that your club is announcing a Membership Referral Contest for 2008 !
The new ANDDA membership application has a space provided to fill in "Referred By". The ANDDA
member with the most number of new members with their name on the bottom wins a free membership renewal for 2009 AND a gift certificate for $25.00 for use in the ANDDA store for some great
merchandise!
All you have to do is fill in your name at bottom of an application, copy it and pass it out with your
kid/adult sales in 2008! We hope that you will encourage all new Nigerian owners to join and support your national breed club.
This is just one of many 'upgrades and perks' your Board of Directors is working on for you for 2008
! Keep your thoughts and suggestions coming!
Contest runs January 1 through November 30, 2008.
Have a great year ANDDA Members!
