Sheffield steel this city has undergone something of a
transformation. The whole centre has been renovated,
new attractions have opened and the retail therapy
opportunities are very impressive. Sheffield is also
known as the greenest city in England with vast

almost three-quarters of the city is taken up by
natural vegetation and waterways.

roasted chestnuts and hot mulled wine set the mood

enjoy the annual St Nicholas Fayre, one of the most
popular events in the UK attracting thousands of
visitors from all over the country. Bursting with
medieval character the city really comes to life at
this time of year with unique stalls selling all types
of festive decorations, gifts and locally produced
food and drinks! Stroll around the old cobbled streets
with their half timbered houses, marvel at the Gothic
York Minster and perhaps explore the excellent
museums. We depart late afternoon and commence
our journey home.

Christmastime
Home to the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire,
Chatsworth is one of Britain's most celebrated historic
houses, set on the River Derwent in Derbyshire's Peak
District National Park. Each winter Chatsworth brings
the spirit of Christmas to life, the grand rooms in the
house are specially decorated with scenes to evoke
the traditions and history of Christmas. The garden
and waterworks are floodlit and carol singers and
brass bands play in the stable yard.

around two months some 60 sculptors work hard to replicate Sleeping Beauty’s

carved out of blocks of ice! Witness the future in ice and be transported to the
imaginary borders of our universe in remarkable scenes of snow and ice and enjoy a

on to the lovely Bavarian port-town of Lindau, beautifully located on an island in

Lake Fuschl is a natural glacial lake, home to some of the purest water to be found

day Four: Today we embark on a lovely scenic four
lakes tour commencing with a drive along the shores
of Lake Wolfgang to St Wolfgang and the famous
White Horse Inn. On then to the lovely spa resort of
Bad Ischl, then continue to Lake Traunsee and the
popular resort of Gmunden. From here we continue
along Lake Attersee and finally to the beautiful lakeside town of Mondsee. St. Michael's church situated in

day Five: A day of scenic Tyrolean landscapes today
as we head via the spa town of Bad Reichenhall to
reach Kitzbuhel, set in the heart of the Kitzbüheler
Alps. The medieval walled part of this lovely town with its cobbled streets and
colourful frescoed buildings dates back over 700 years. Kitzbühel is also one of the
most cosmopolitan of Austria's mountain resorts with quaint cafes, bars and
boutique designer shops.
day six: A visit to the famous city of Salzburg, dominated by the medieval
Hohensalzburg Fortress. Famous as the birthplace of Mozart and the ‘Sound of
Music City’, Salzburg is a beautiful city featuring Baroque architecture, impressive
spires and lovely picturesque narrow streets with their ornate wrought iron signs.
You may wish to visit Hellbrunn Castle and its delightful gardens, see the cathedral,
Mirabell Palace and the Mozart Square and birthplace.

Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland

day One: Early departure for our journey south to Folkestone and through the
Eurotunnel to Calais, then on via the French auto-routes to the Champagne Region
of France and an overnight stay in Reims.
day Two: We continue our journey through France passing Verdun and over the
Vosges Mountains, stopping off in pretty Colmar with its wonderfully preserved
half-timbered buildings. This afternoon we drive on to Basel and cross the border
into Switzerland then climb to the unspoilt village of Aeschi and the Aeschi Park
Hotel where we stay for the next five nights.
day Three: Today is spent at leisure to relax and enjoy the mountain views in and
around the village. You may wish to visit nearby Spiez where you can wander
around the Old Town and visit the castle with its splendid Baroque Banqueting Hall
dating back to 1614. The adjacent Romanesque Church is also a marvellous place
to visit with its 17th Century spire and frescos. After dinner this evening join your
hosts for a guided torchlight walk through the village and some hot mulled wine on
your return.
day Four: A lovely scenic journey today to view the majestic peaks of the Bernese
Oberland including the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. First we visit Lauterbrunnen,
named after the many waterfalls that descend to the valley below, the most
famous of these being the Staubbach Falls which are
just a short walk from the village. We then continue
our journey on to Grindelwald, a charming village in a
magnificent setting nestling at the foot of the mighty
Eiger. Grindelwald itself has long been famous for its
proximity to the Eiger and has been a popular location
for many famous films. For your added enjoyment a
horse drawn sleigh ride is included today.
day Five: Today we visit the Swiss capital city of
Bern, set on sharp horseshoe bend of the River Aare.
The Old Town is a delight to explore with its narrow
cobbled streets, fountains and wonderful old buildings
including the magnificent Confederation Parliament, all

surrounded by snow-capped peaks, famed for Sherlock
Holmes’ demise with his arch rival Moriarty at nearby
Reichenbach Falls. We return along Lake Brienz and visit
Interlaken, set as the name implies between Lakes Brienz and Thun. Here we take
to the water for a cruise from Interlaken to Spiez, then re-join the coach for the
short journey back to the hotel.
day seven: We leave our Alpine resort this morning and head back into France for

Lake Garda
Explore some of Europe’s finest Lakeland scenery where tree-clad mountains

along the shoreline. Garda is the largest of the Italian Lakes stretching between the

Porto & The Douro Valley
This lovely region of Portugal known as the Green Coast boasts an almost
unbroken coastline of white sandy beaches backed by green pines and dense
woods. To the north of the city of Porto lies the popular holiday resort of Povoa de

day six: This morning we travel to the quayside at Vila Nova de Gaia and board
our riverboat for a relaxing full day cruise along the beautiful and majestic Douro
River to Regua. Enjoy an included three course lunch with wine on board the boat
and admire the wonderful landscapes as we meander along the river. See row upon
row of terraces cultivated with vines following the curves of the mountain and
forming intricate patterns. Our boat will pass through
the locks of Crestuma and Carrapatelo (the highest in
