roasted chestnuts and hot mulled wine set the mood

Bakewell puddings, then commence our homeward

day Two: We check out and travel across to York to
enjoy the annual St Nicholas Fayre, one of the most
popular events in the UK attracting thousands of
visitors from all over the country. Bursting with
medieval character the city really comes to life at
this time of year with unique stalls selling all types
of festive decorations, gifts and locally produced
food and drinks! Stroll around the old cobbled streets
with their half timbered houses, marvel at the Gothic
York Minster and perhaps explore the excellent
museums. We depart late afternoon and commence
our journey home.

Christmastime
Home to the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire,
Chatsworth is one of Britain's most celebrated historic
houses, set on the River Derwent in Derbyshire's Peak
District National Park. Each winter Chatsworth brings
the spirit of Christmas to life, the grand rooms in the
house are specially decorated with scenes to evoke
the traditions and history of Christmas. The garden
and waterworks are floodlit and carol singers and
brass bands play in the stable yard.

Royal Courts of Justice in Aldwych. It travels out via St
Paul's between 11am and 12.30, and returns by the
embankment between 1pm and 2.30. It will take an
hour and a quarter to go by. The day is brought to an
end at 5:15pm with a fantastic fireworks display that
will light up the sky over the river Thames.

Avon where there will be time for lunch, then continue

band will also be performing this evening so you can party your way into 2016!

day Three: A morning at leisure in the hotel, maybe relax in the hotel’s leisure
facilities. In the afternoon we visit Royal Windsor with its charming cobbled streets

day Two: We arrive in the port of Ijmuiden then travel
the short distance into the centre of Amsterdam to
commence exploring the city, perhaps take a canal
sightseeing trip. In the late afternoon we check in to

numerous bars and restaurants in the city centre then maybe sample the great city

day Three: This morning we take a drive to see the delightful village of Zaanse
Schans, situated on the banks of the River Zaan. It features characteristic green

day Three: This morning we cross into Germany and
visit the city of Aachen. Take a stroll through the
historic streets and admire the grand old buildings and
the city’s historic landmark, the spectacular Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World
Heritage site. We then make our way to Drielandenpunt, or 3-land point, a wellknown tourist attraction where Holland, Germany and Belgium come together.
From here we continue through the Eiffel Mountains to the picturesque town of
Monschau, renowned for its half-timbered buildings and old cobbled streets all
overlooked by a medieval hilltop castle.
day Four: A morning visit to Maastricht, the southern-most city in the
Netherlands. Take a walk around the delightful old city centre and see the

day Five: A day of scenic Tyrolean landscapes today
as we head via the spa town of Bad Reichenhall to
reach Kitzbuhel, set in the heart of the Kitzbüheler
Alps. The medieval walled part of this lovely town with its cobbled streets and
colourful frescoed buildings dates back over 700 years. Kitzbühel is also one of the
most cosmopolitan of Austria's mountain resorts with quaint cafes, bars and
boutique designer shops.
day six: A visit to the famous city of Salzburg, dominated by the medieval
Hohensalzburg Fortress. Famous as the birthplace of Mozart and the ‘Sound of
Music City’, Salzburg is a beautiful city featuring Baroque architecture, impressive
spires and lovely picturesque narrow streets with their ornate wrought iron signs.
You may wish to visit Hellbrunn Castle and its delightful gardens, see the cathedral,
Mirabell Palace and the Mozart Square and birthplace.
day seven: We leave Fuschl this morning and head back to Saarbrucken for
another overnight stay.

Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland
The delightful Bernese Oberland is one of the most scenic parts of Switzerland
with breath-taking views, magnificent mountains, glistening lakes and unspoilt
nature, one of Switzerland's most diverse regions that combines the beauty of
Lakes Thun and Brienz with the awe inspiring mountain trio of the Eiger, Monch
and Jungfrau. Our chosen resort to explore this lovely region is the town of Aeschi,
set at the heart of a beautiful mountain landscape overlooking the town of Spiez
and Lake Thun.
iTiNerary
Eurotunnel to Calais, then on via the French auto-routes to the Champagne Region
of France and an overnight stay in Reims.
day Two: We continue our journey through France passing Verdun and over the
Vosges Mountains, stopping off in pretty Colmar with its wonderfully preserved
half-timbered buildings. This afternoon we drive on to Basel and cross the border
into Switzerland then climb to the unspoilt village of Aeschi and the Aeschi Park
Hotel where we stay for the next five nights.
day Three: Today is spent at leisure to relax and enjoy the mountain views in and
around the village. You may wish to visit nearby Spiez where you can wander
around the Old Town and visit the castle with its splendid Baroque Banqueting Hall
dating back to 1614. The adjacent Romanesque Church is also a marvellous place
to visit with its 17th Century spire and frescos. After dinner this evening join your
hosts for a guided torchlight walk through the village and some hot mulled wine on
your return.
day Four: A lovely scenic journey today to view the majestic peaks of the Bernese
Oberland including the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. First we visit Lauterbrunnen,
named after the many waterfalls that descend to the valley below, the most
famous of these being the Staubbach Falls which are
just a short walk from the village. We then continue
our journey on to Grindelwald, a charming village in a
magnificent setting nestling at the foot of the mighty
Eiger. Grindelwald itself has long been famous for its
proximity to the Eiger and has been a popular location
for many famous films. For your added enjoyment a
horse drawn sleigh ride is included today.
day Five: Today we visit the Swiss capital city of
Bern, set on sharp horseshoe bend of the River Aare.
The Old Town is a delight to explore with its narrow
cobbled streets, fountains and wonderful old buildings
including the magnificent Confederation Parliament, all
forming part of a UNESCO heritage site.

day six: A morning visit to Meiringen, a pretty town
surrounded by snow-capped peaks, famed for Sherlock
Holmes’ demise with his arch rival Moriarty at nearby
Reichenbach Falls. We return along Lake Brienz and visit
Interlaken, set as the name implies between Lakes Brienz and Thun. Here we take
to the water for a cruise from Interlaken to Spiez, then re-join the coach for the
short journey back to the hotel.
day seven: We leave our Alpine resort this morning and head back into France for
another overnight stay in the champagne city of Reims.

Lake Garda
Explore some of Europe’s finest Lakeland scenery where tree-clad mountains
descend into crystal clear waters and frame the pretty towns and villages dotted
along the shoreline. Garda is the largest of the Italian Lakes stretching between the
Alps and the Dolomites with diverse scenery ranging from low-lying countryside on
its southern shores, rising to cliffs and pine forests in the north. Riva del Garda is a
very popular resort in a stunning location at the northern tip of the lake
overshadowed by spectacular mountains. The delightful Old Town is centred
around a 12th century fortress and clock tower with a maze of narrow streets full
of inviting little shops and pavement cafés to sit and watch the world go by.
iTiNerary
day One: We depart in the early hours and travel south to Folkestone for a
morning journey through the Eurotunnel to Calais, then continue on through
Belgium and Luxembourg into Germany for an overnight stay at Saarbrucken.
day Two: We travel on via Stuttgart and Ulm into Austria and across the Fern Pass,
then on past Innsbruck and over the spectacular Brenner Pass to reach Lake Garda
and the Hotel Savoy Palace at Rive Del Garda where we stay for five nights.
day Three: A day at leisure to relax and explore the delights of Riva del Garda.
day Four: Today we travel to the southern tip of the lake for a visit to delightful
Sirmione, uniquely located at the end of a peninsula. Sirmione is one of Lake Garda’s
oldest and most popular resorts famous for its medieval centre, moated castle and
lovely piazzas.
day Five: A visit to Verona, one of Italy’s oldest cities
famous for its Opera festivals performed in its
perfectly preserved Roman Arena in the historic centre
of the city. See the famous Juliet's balcony as
immortalised in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and
the lovely Piazza delle Erbe with its 14th century
fountain, surrounded by magnificent medieval
buildings and towers. Recently awarded the status of
a "World Heritage Site", Verona also has a unique range
of art-works and monuments enclosed within the city
walls.

day six: A further day at leisure in Riva Del Garda or
join us for an optional excursion visiting two more popular Lake Garda resorts. Our
first visit will be to Lazise, a medieval walled town with a myriad of pretty, cobbled
and winding streets, lined with small boutique shops, cafés and typical stores
selling local fare. Next we visit Bardolino where it is a pleasure to stroll around the
numerous gelaterias and pizzerias in the quaint traffic-free streets that wind their
way down to the town’s impressive main square.
day seven: Leaving Lake Garda this morning we travel to the St Gotthard tunnel
which takes us into Switzerland, then on via the beautiful Alps and Lake Lucerne
back to Saarbrucken for another overnight stay.

Lake Maggiore
The splendour and majestic beauty of Lake Maggiore stretches from the snow
capped mountains of Switzerland on the northern shores, to the Italian Plains in
the south. Enchanting landscapes of alpine peaks, serene blue waters, and
luxuriant vegetation. Stresa is the largest and best known resort on the lake with a

day One: Early departure to Folkestone for a journey through the Eurotunnel to
Calais and on to our overnight hotel in the Champagne City of Reims.
day Two: We continue travelling south through the Alsace Region to Basel, then
on via Lucerne and the beautiful Swiss Alps to the Gotthard Tunnel which takes us
into Italy. We then descend to Bellinzona and continue to the shores of Lake
Maggiore for five nights at the Hotel La Palma.
day Three: A day at leisure to relax and explore Stresa and maybe take a boat trip
to the Borromean Islands. A convenient hop-on & hop-off ferry service is available
from Stresa travelling between the three islands – Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori,
and Isola Madre. This enables you to travel at your own pace and leave the ferry at
any of the islands and hop back on the next ferry when you want to continue.
day Four: Some truly spectacular scenery today as we travel up through the
rugged Anzasca Valley to Macugnaga, nestling at the foot of the awe inspiring
Monte Rosa which at 15,200ft is one of the biggest peaks in the Alps. The village
itself is a cluster of typical alpine buildings, centred on a pretty flower filled main
square, with views of the Alps and mountain pastures

day Five: Today we travel via Ascona to the

set near the lake shore.
day six: Today we enjoy a leisurely excursion to pretty Lake Orta, one of the
smallest of northern Italy's alpine lakes. We visit the charming car free lakeside
village of Orta San Giulio, rich in history with quaint narrow cobbled streets,
aristocratic houses, courtyards and elaborate palaces. The picturesque lakeside
central square, with its frescoed 16th century town hall, overlooks the island of San
Giulio. You may wish to take a short boat trip to see the island, dominated by its
Romanesque basilica.
day seven: We leave Stresa this morning and travel back through Switzerland into
France for another overnight stay at Reims.

Porto & The Douro Valley
This lovely region of Portugal known as the Green Coast boasts an almost
unbroken coastline of white sandy beaches backed by green pines and dense
woods. To the north of the city of Porto lies the popular holiday resort of Povoa de
Varzim, both a traditional fishing town and a cosmopolitan summer resort. At one
end is the picturesque fishermen’s quarter with brightly painted boats and women
mending their fishing nets whilst the northern end of Póvoa has all the modern
facilities, a lively mix of beach side cafés, bars, restaurants, hotels and its 1930’s
style casino.

day One: Early departure for our journey south to Plymouth where we board the
Brittany Ferries flagship the ‘Pont Aven’ for its afternoon sailing to Spain. Facilities
on board include a choice of restaurants and lounges, two cinemas, shopping malls,
live music and dancing, plus a swimming pool and leisure area. Cabins are all airconditioned and have en suite facilities.
day Two: We arrive in the port of Santander, cruising in past golden beaches and
the former Royal Summer Palace. We then disembark and travel south to Palencia
for an overnight stay at the Europa Centro Hotel.
day Three: We continue our journey across northern Spain and into Portugal,
travelling via the picturesque wine region of the Douro Valley, arriving in Póvoa de
Varzim in the late afternoon for check in to the Axis Hotel where we stay for the
next five nights.
day Four: A day at leisure to relax and explore Povoa de Varzim. Discover the
fisherman’s quarter with its brightly coloured boats and see the womenfolk as they
mend the nets using centuries old techniques, Take a stroll along the 19th century
shopping street and the long expanse of sandy beach.
day Five: Our day commences with a visit to Guimaraes, classified by UNESCO
as a World Heritage Site with its medieval streets and preserved monuments
including the 10th century castle and the 15th century palace of the Dukes of
Bragança. We then continue on to Braga, the religious capital of Portugal with
its Baroque mansions, cathedral and the vast Archbishop's Palace. The hilltop
Bom Jesus shrine, located just outside the town is one of the most famous
places of pilgrimage in Portugal.
day six: This morning we travel to the quayside at Vila Nova de Gaia and board
our riverboat for a relaxing full day cruise along the beautiful and majestic Douro
River to Regua. Enjoy an included three course lunch with wine on board the boat
and admire the wonderful landscapes as we meander along the river. See row upon
row of terraces cultivated with vines following the curves of the mountain and
forming intricate patterns. Our boat will pass through
the locks of Crestuma and Carrapatelo (the highest in
Europe at 115 feet). On arrival in Regua our coach will
be waiting for the transfer back to the hotel.
