Point Clark Lighthouse
What better way to end a beautiful, sunny
summer day at Point Clark than to watch the
sun go down from the top of the Point Clark
Lighthouse! A spectacular view of the Lake
Huron shoreline is definitely worth the climb!
The Point Clark Lighthouse is a National Historic
Site and was one of the first "imperial towers" to
flash its light. Six of these majestic towers were
built by John Brown on Lake Huron and Georgian
Bay in the 1850s. Built of limestone from nearby
Inverhuron, the Point Clark Lighthouse stands
26.5 metres (80 feet) high.
The Lighthouse was acquired by Parks Canada
in 1967 to commemorate the vital role of
lighthouses in navigation on the Great Lakes.
The lightkeeper’s dwelling, built at the same
time as the lighthouse, is now operated as a
museum by the Township of Huron-Kinloss.
Between 2010 and 2015, the Lighthouse
underwent extensive reconstruction due to
deteriorating stones. Over 300 stones were
replaced, and the entire tower was re-grouted
and white-washed. New windows were also
installed. If you are interested in the
restoration of the lighthouse, visit the
Lighthouse Museum to watch a video of the
process.
The Point Clark Lighthouse is located in Point
Clark at the end of Lighthouse Road, off Huron
Road.

Beaches &

Boiler Beach
Looking for a quiet, sandy
beach? Somewhere to relax by
the water and listen to waves
crash on the shore? HuronKinloss has just what you are
looking for! Although we have
great beaches up and down
the shoreline, the two main
beaches in Huron-Kinloss are
Point Clark Beach and Boiler
Beach.
Point Clark Beach
Point Clark Beach
Point Clark Beach is a great place to spend the
day with the kids. There are a variety of activities
within a short walking distance of the beach and
public washrooms are available across from the
Lighthouse.
Boiler Beach
At the north end of the
Township you will find the
remains of the Erie Belle,
a Great Lakes Steamer
that exploded along the
shoreline of Lake Huron on
November 21, 1883.
Erie Belle Boiler
Built in 1864, it served the east coast of the
United States during the Civil War era and sailed
as a packet steamer on Lake Erie for many years,
until it sunk and was rebuilt as a tug. At the time
of the explosion, the Erie Belle was trying to rescue
a schooner that had drifted in the water during a
terrible storm. The blast killed four of the 12 men
on board and destroyed the ship.
All that remains of the Erie Belle today is the boiler
(the cause of the explosion), which now rests on
the sandy beach. The area has for decades been
known as Boiler Beach.
Access Point: The base of Boiler Beach Road where
it intersects with Conc. 12, or where it intersects
with Huronville Street (just south of Kincardine).
Pack a picnic lunch to eat beside the playground,
and enjoy a game of beach volleyball. You can even
launch your boat at the marina! Ice cream is available at the Village Pizzeria, which is just a short
walk from the beach. If you are really hungry, Lake
Range Family Restaurant is a great place to grab
some fish and chips.
Pine River Boat Club – Private marina. Information available at www.pineriverboatclub.ca
Access Point: The end of Lighthouse Road, off
Huron Road (Conc. 2) in Point Clark.
Point Clark Boat Club – Public marina. Launch
keys available at Village Pizzeria, by the lighthouse.

Bruce Botanical
Food Gardens…
I’ve bean, have you?
62 Park Street in Ripley
isn’t your typical country garden
experience. Bedspring fencing, wire spool tables, tractor seat stools and
reclaimed items throughout are surrounded by over 10,000 food plants
all grown using natural, sustainable methods. If you haven’t included the
Bruce Botanical Food Gardens on your must do list for summer vacation
this year, you need to reconsider! We are indeed a rare experience not
to be missed.
This year’s theme—The Body of Health will demonstrate the various
foods that target the health of the body’s systems-circulatory, digestive,
endocrine, eyes, brain, heart, skin, and reproductive. Learn what the
requirements are for optimal health and what plants provide to support
each system.
The Wild Thangs garden will share our enthusiasm for edible weeds. The
season kicks off with a celebration of the dandelion. Learn about what
this plant REALLY has to offer and indulge in dandelion treats.
Join us at the BBFG, in the heart of Ripley, to reconnect with nature and
food. Don’t forget about our Living Marketplace…fresh-picked-from-thegarden food available to everyone for the cost of a donation.
Adopt a section of the garden to maintain. A few minutes a week can
make the garden a delight for all.
VISIT OUR OFF-GRID BUSINESS INCUBATOR
ORRponics will be on hand to explain soilless
growing by hydroponics, aeroponics and
aquaponic systems and demonstrate how off grid

Hurontel Museum
Huron Telecommunications has been operating
for over a century. Today, they provide local
customers with phone, internet, TV services, and
much more.
There are two separate rooms in the entrance of
their main office in Ripley, which are dedicated
to preserving the original telecommunication
provider’s equipment. From the original manual
phone switches to an ‘ancient’ computer
(compared to today’s standards), and even the
original stools the switchboard operators used on
a daily basis.

Lewis Park
Lewis Park is a great place to take your little ones

Ripley Heritage Mural
Across from Lewis Park, a unique mural was
installed in July 2015 on the façade of the
former Courtney Grain and Seed building. CoBalt
Connects, which is a non-profit organization
based out of Hamilton, collected historic photos
of people in Ripley and transformed them into
life-sized images that now cover the old building
and the former hotel next to it. Plaques beside
the images tell the story of some of the founders
of the village of Ripley.
Paul Henderson Mural
Lucknow’s most famous native son and Canadian
hockey hero Paul Henderson is honoured in a
mural in downtown Lucknow. The Paul Henderson
Mural, on the corner of Campbell and Ross Streets,
depicts the celebration of the series-winning goal
scored by Henderson against the Soviet Union in
the 1972 Summit Series.
It was completed by Allan Hilgendorf, who has
murals throughout Ontario, and was restored by
Ruth Hurdle, an artist from Midland.
Donald Dinnie Statue
The brawny Scot, whose statue stands proudly in the Village of
Lucknow, is Donald Dinnie, a champion wrestler and heavyweight
athlete of the 19th century. Born in 1837 in Aberdeenshire,
Scotland, Dinnie won over 10,000 competitions during his
lifetime, excelling in sports such as hammer-throwing, wrestling,
hurdles and jumping.
Donald Dinnie competed in the Lucknow Caledonian Games in
1882. Since this time, Dinnie has become somewhat of an icon
for Lucknow. In 2010, the Lucknow beautification committee
unveiled the metal statue of Donald Dinnie on the corner of Inglis
and Campbell Streets.
This sculpture was created by local artist William Dickie with
funds raised during the 2008 Lucknow Reunion. Although Donald
was a Scotsman who had no ties to Lucknow other than the
games, he became a folk hero of the time and thus a part of
village history.

Downtown Ripley
and Lucknow
Take some time to stroll down the main streets in
our two commercial areas, Lucknow and Ripley.
You’d be surprised at what you can find in these
small villages!
You’d be surprised at
what you can find in
these small villages!
Whether you are doing a small renovation project at
your home or cottage, looking for a unique gift or
nice outfit for an upcoming event, or just looking
to pick-up some groceries, Lucknow has everything
you need! It truly is Huron-Kinloss’ “general store.”
Armstrong’s Bakery is well known to residents and
visitors for their butter tarts and fresh fruit tarts.
Be sure to stop by early in the day if you want
some donut holes; they go very fast! Lucknow is
also very fortunate to have a butcher. Green’s Meat
Market is just down the street from Armstrong’s
and has a large selection of fresh cut meat. Stop
in to the LCBO, grocery store, pharmacy and Home
Hardware to pick-up everything else you need on
the way to the cottage.
Treat yourself to a new outfit at Nine Waves, Alia N’
TanJay or I Want That Bag (IWTB). IWTB also has
refinished furniture, unique décor and a children’s
section. Everlastings has an assortment of flowers
and gift ideas. As well, discover the large selection of home décor items and gifts at Pharmasave.
Enjoy a delicious meal at one of three sit-down
restaurants, Mary’s Restaurant, Village Pizzeria or
the new Cobblestone Pub & Grill. Take the family to
the Lucknow Splash Pad or stroll along the Lucknow
Walk (a 5 km trail) and explore the beauty of
Waterworks Park and the Mill Pond.
Ripley has some neat one-of-a-kind gifts. Original
woodworking can be found at The Wood Shop.
Ripley Rockers and animal rockers make great gifts
from grandparents! Susan Nichol Pottery in Ripley
offers you a chance to “get dirty” and make your
own one-of-a-kind clay creation. Of course you are
welcome to browse through the large selection of
already-made items, including steam-punk inspired
cookie jars. If you’ve got a cow or horse lover in
the family, be sure to stop by Stockyard’s Western
Apparel. Across the road, there is an antique and
collectables store.
Downtown Ripley
There are also businesses in downtown Ripley
to serve your everyday needs. Ripley Variety
offers soup and salad every day at lunchtime and
they have the most mouth-watering homemade
cinnamon buns! You can also grab your deli meat,
milk and other groceries here. If you own a pet,
pick-up your pet food at Pet-tique. Pet-tique also
has fish and birds in the store that are ready for
adoption! You’ll find two health and beauty salons
and a hardware store downtown as well. Lewis
Park is a great spot to entertain kids with its large
playground and splash pad.

Kincardine across from Ainsdale Golf Course and

mini-golf, and a snack bar. It’s fun for the whole
family!
The Lucknow Splash Pad is a great place to cool off
on those hot summer days! It is located beside the
Lucknow & District Pool, and has several unique
water features. The project was spearheaded by the
Lucknow Lions Club, which received Ontario Trillium
Funding and donations from local businesses,
service clubs and families in the area.
Open seven days a week, 10:00a.m. – 9:00p.m.
(closed during winter). Located at 1212 Hwy. 21,

Kinloss Tract
Historical Walking Tours
Mountain biking enthusiasts can explore the Kinloss
Tract, which is a mountain biking trail located
northeast of the Village of Lucknow, at 956 South
Kinloss Ave.
Pick-up a Lucknow and Ripley Historical Walking
Tour brochure and learn about the history of the
two villages while enjoying a leisurely stroll.
Twolan’s Trail is a single track, approximately 3.5
km in length. You can also enjoy an additional 2.5
km of old forest access road. Most of the single
track takes advantage of the rolling terrain to
create some nice climbs and descents.
For more information about this trail and other
mountain biking trails in Bruce County visit
www.mtbthebruce.com.

~ Why our products are worth the short drive out of town ~
We get our fertilizers right from the source, purchased from across Canada and around the World, then blended
right here at our own location.
Our fertilizers have higher ratios than most competitors’ products, including those offered in big box stores,
which means you get more product and no filler.
Lawn Care Tips
 Mowing high shades out weeds and lets lawns retain more moisture during dry periods.
 Over seeding with grass seed fills holes in lawns with grass rather than letting weed seeds sprout in bare and
thin areas.
 Leave your clippings, they return nutrients and organic matter to the soil, they also hold moisture during dry
periods.
 Watering deeply and in the morning keeps lawns healthy. It’s better to water deeply twice a week than to
water a little bit each day. Grubs are more likely to devastate a lawn if it’s under drought stress so to reduce
damage keep your lawn healthy in the first place.
 Fertilize your lawn, like watering fertilizing keeps lawns healthy and growing in the first place so the grass can
out compete weeds and is less damaged by insect pests.
We accept payment made by cash, cheque and debit. Thank you.

Natural Gas Initiative
The natural gas initiative is a partnership of
the Municipality of Kincardine, the Township of
Huron-Kinloss and the Township of Arran Elderslie.
The municipalities have been investigating the
feasibility of developing a natural gas supply to the
constituents of the municipalities. Following a six
month competitive Request for Information process
which identified multiple potential developers
to construct, own and operate a new natural gas
distribution utility, a candidate was selected.
Kincardine, Arran-Elderslie and Huron-Kinloss have
selected Edmonton-based EPCOR Utilities Inc. as
the successful proponent to bring natural gas to
their South Bruce communities.
