BOTSWANA
A talk on Anti doping was organized by the Botswana Women’s Cricket Club in collaboration with Botswana
Cricket Association for girls who participated in the Pepsi ACA U19 Girls Tournament from the 07th – 11th
December 2012 in Uganda.
On Friday 30th November 2012, Ms. Basadi Akoonyatse from Regional Anti Doping Organization delivered
a talk informing girls on various ways through which an athlete can be a victim of doping and the
consequences of doping. The talk was informative and empowered young athletes on the very important
part of sports performance, thanks to the Botswana National Olympic Committee for providing a resource
person at a very short notice.
GAMBIA
A day coaching clinic was held on Wednesday 14th December 2012 in the Gambia at the Independence
Stadium Bakau and Kanifing West Mini Stadium for schools in Serrekunda, and Bakau. The aim of this
Coaching Clinic was to introduce the game to new students and Schools and get more kids involved in
playing the game. Two Hundred students from Grade 4 to 9 from five different Schools were introduced to
the Basic fundamental of: Batting; Bowling; Catching; Fielding; and other
Schools that took part in this coaching clinic from Kanifing Municipality were as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------A 1-day Governance Course was held on Wednesday 5th December 2012, at The July 22nd Square in
Banjul which Twenty (20) participants from different Sporting Disciplines attended.
The PRO of the Association George Greywoode said that the aim of this course is to get delegates
equipped with the knowledge of Governance and hope at the end of the course everybody will be well
equipped. The one day course looked at the definition of Governance, Structure, Obligation and Role of a
Board, CEO Expectation, Constitution and Management. The participants were later divided into groups for
Group discussion. The day long course was well presented by Johnny Gomez.
-----------------------------------------------------------------In a bid to increase on the Umpiring base in the country, the Gambia Cricket Association successfully held a
three day Introductory Umpiring Course in Brikama West Coast Region from the 30th November to the 2nd
of December 2012. Twenty-two (22) Candidates attended the course which targeted school teachers and
students from schools. Participants were taken through the basics of umpiring and the Laws of the game;
some of the following were also introduced to them:-
Umpire’s Signals of the game; Ways of Dismissals in Cricket; Judgment of Wides and No Balls; LBW
Judgments; Cricket Terminology; Pitch Measurements/Dimensions

In day two a session was conducted on the cricket field were participants were taught to position
themselves while Umpiring. Members were also taught the markings on the field and the measurements.
Day Three was for the Umpires to stand behind the stumps to officiate and each Umpire was give to cover
Four (4) Overs each. It was quite interesting that the participants managed to grasp it very fast. The Gambia
Cricket Association continues to thank Africa Cricket Association and the ICC Development Program for
making this course possible for Gambia Cricket. The Course Facilitator was Mr. Johnny Gomez.

GHANA
Ghana Cricket Association hosted an Umpires Seminar for beginners in Winneba, Ghana from the 10th –
11th of December 2012. The course was conducted by Taiwo Oladunjoye of Nigeria. A total of thirteen (13)
participants were in attendance
The seminar was declared open at 9a.m on day one by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Ghana Cricket
Association Mr. Henry Benjamin Ackom. After the registration of the participants, soft copies of the course
material were handed to all delegates and thereafter the course commenced by introducing the game of
cricket and the spirit of the game as well as the role of an Umpire in the game. The 42 laws of cricket were
discussed.
On day two, a recap of all that had been done on the first day was conducted. Afrter lunch practical
sessions were conducted with the assistance of Mr. Bruce thereafter a delegates wrote a 20 question
examination. Participants were urged to put more effort in all their endeavors

KENYA
Cricket Kenya has created a piece of history by electing a women as its new chairman, the first female to
head a national cricket board.
Jackie Janmohammed, a Nairobi-based lawyer, was unanimously elected to replace Samir Inamdar, who
held the post for seven-and-a-half years.
"I take this opportunity to thank the cricket fraternity for placing their trust for leadership under me,"
Janmohammed said. "I would like to make a covenant of uniting everyone for the benefit of the sport and my
only agenda will be to grow the sport and achieve measurable results."
She served as a legal advisor to the old Kenya Cricket Association and will be responsible for implementing
the findings of a comprehensive review that was carried out in the wake of Kenya's disastrous 2011 World
Cup campaign - their worst performance in a World Cup.
Kenya were hammered by New Zealand - who bowled them out for 69 - Pakistan and Sri Lanka,
handsomely beaten by Australia and, of most concern, being swept aside by Zimbabwe and comfortably
beaten by Canada. An alarming set of results only eight years on from a semi-final in 2003.
"My short term plans are to ensure both the national Under-19 and the senior men's team qualify for the
next World Cup," she said. "Kenya play Canada in the UAE in March, in a match we need to win to stay in
contention for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand."
Kenya currently lie sixth in the ICC World Cricket League Championship, with the top two teams in the
group automatically qualifying for the 2015 World Cup. Kenya have six points with two matches to play.
Ireland top the table with 13 points, Scotland are second with 11.
Should Kenya miss out on automatic qualification, they will still have a route to the World Cup via the
qualifying tournament in 2014.
-----------------------------------------------------------------Cricket Kenya three new players have been introduced to the Pepsi ICC-Africa Womens World Cup
Qualifiers Tournament side from the team that played in last year’s Africa Women Twenty20 held in
Uganda. 15 year old Daisy Wairimu who was declared the player of the tournament in the December 2012
Africa Junior Girls Championships in Uganda made her debut in the team of 14 players.
-----------------------------------------------------------------On Saturday November 17th, 2012 the Kenya Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association conducted an
Umpires & Scorers Refresher Course which was attended by 19 of its members. This course was convened
by R. D'Mello duly assisted by Mr. D. Odhiambo & Mr. D. Angara.
The course was run on the power point and all the latest rules and regulations were explained by the
respective speakers. The members were also taken to the Premier Club Cricket pitch and were briefed on
the various ettiquete of on-field umpiring.

MALI
FeMaCrik in its quest for promoting the game of cricket and to increase the number of cricket players in
national territory of Mali has enterprises to be in partnership with schools (Primary, secondary etc...) In this
purpose, FeMaCrik has concluded with two schools (Lycée/Secondary School): Complexes Scolaire Ba
Fanta Coulibaly School in Djélibougou, a partnership to teach cricket to children for all section of school. In
this partnership FeMaCrik had handed kits as well as coaching courses and training sessions supervised by
Technical Assistant of FeMaCrik.
More than Hundred players are learning Cricket Basics during weekly trainings sessions in Mali and
FeMaCrik is continuing to look at other new schools for growing the game of Cricket in Mali.
Another venture for Mali Cricket was the inclusion of " Bahaben Santara School " into
its set-up. The School has more then 2 000 Children and Juniors. Activities are to
commence in January 2013 which will surely bring about an increase in Mali’s playing
numbers to around an additional 2 000 players before the end of 2013 and a possible
target of 4 000 players in 2015.

NIGERIA
The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), in line with the development objectives of the International Cricket
Council (ICC) of introducing cricket at the grass root level, organized in the last quarter of 2012, a series of
introductory courses in Ebonyi, Abia, Zamfara, Sokoto, Osun, Akwa Ibom & Bayelsa States of Nigeria.
The Introductory Cricket Course was conducted in Ebonyi State between 1st and 2nd of November 2012. It
was a welcomed programmed by the Ebonyi State Sports Council that was eager to key into the national
Cricket development.
A total number of 24 teachers and a hundred Students participated. Eleven schools were in attendance.
The Course Instructor Emeka Igwilo, ICC Level 2 Coach and NCF, RDO for South East, during the
introduction thanked the Ebonyi State Director of Sports, Mr. Emmanuel Utobo for providing the
platform for the running of the Introductory Course. He encouraged the State and the Teachers who
attended the course to learn and put into practice what they have learnt from the 2 day- course. He
assured them that NCF will continue to provide support in terms of provision of technical input and
equipment.
The story of enthusiasm with which the Introductory Cricket Course was embraced was the same in Abia
State, except that the number was impressive and beyond expectation. A total number of 144 participants
attended the course, made up of 33 Teachers/Games masters and 111 Students. A total of 12 Schools were
in attendance.
The most amazing surprise was participants from Aba and Ohofia areas that drove from far distances to
attend the course. A lot of Physical and Health Education teachers were eager to witness for the first time
the practical sessions of the theoretical content of what they learnt in the Colleges. The facilitation of the
Course was made easy by the Chairman of Abia State Cricket Association, Mr. James Okwara and Mr.
Ochea Idika, the Organizing Secretary of Abia State Sports Council.
At Government College, Umuahia, Abia State, during the opening ceremony, Emeka Igwilo, the course
instructor called on the participants to utilize the opportunity offered by NCF by learning the basics of Cricket
and introducing same in their respective schools.
It was also highlighted that the State had raised junior teams that played in the past but sustenance and lack
of equipment killed the dream.

The Zonal Representative of South East and Cricket Coach of Imo State, Mr. Tony Ajaelo was present in
Abia State during the 2 day- Course. He contributed to the learning process and shared his experiences and
knowledge in the game.
Bat-shapes, Tennis Balls, Wickets and T-shirts from NCF were distributed to the Schools and
participants.The two day- course covered areas like The role of a coach, Batting, Bowling and Fielding
Fundamentals, Ways of dismissals, Umpiring and scoring, Planning a Coaching Session, Volunteerism,
The spirit of the game, Practical Coaching Sessions etc.
The Zamfara State leg of the course attracted 105 students. The two day- course covered areas like The
role of a coach, Batting, Bowling and Fielding Fundamentals, Ways of dismissals, Umpiring and scoring,
Planning a Coaching Session, Volunteerism, The spirit of the game, Practical Coaching Sessions etc.
A total number of 106 students participated in the Sokoto State course. Equipments were donated to the
state secondary schools by the Oche Onoja, NCF Regional Development Officer (RDO) North, on behalf of
the N.C.F
The Introductory course was held at Ilesha Grammar School Oke-sha Ilesha Osun State with 4 schools in
attendance- namely St. Lawrence Grammar School, Babalola Girl's Grammar School and St. Margaret Girl's
School. Over One hundred students and pupils from primary schools attended the Course.
The Games Masters were taken through the techniques and skills of bowling batting fielding and wicket
keeping. It was reiterated that the need for the coaching course was basically to establish teams for their
schools where competitions will be established to motivate healthy rivalry.
At the session with the students, they were taught by the Coordinator, Basty Cardoso, NCF Regional
Development Officer (South West), how to score and umpire a match.
As part the of the grass root and regional cricket development programme of the Nigeria Cricket Federation,
in line with the International Cricket Councils development objectives, the game of cricket was introduced to
over a hundred students and over 15 games masters/ teachers in a 2 -day programme which took place at
Uyo in Akwa Ibom state from November 1-2, 2012. The programme which was conducted by Uthe Ogbimi,
NCF Regional Development Officer for South-South region was attended by a mammoth crowd of students
and very enthusiastic teachers and coaching assistants of the Akwa Ibom State Cricket Association.
Teaching materials were handed to all the teachers which also included copies of England and Wales
Cricket Board Coaches Association wings to fly coaching DVDs, brought by the instructor. Video sessions
were included for illustration of coaching points.

The game of cricket was introduced to over a hundred students and over 15 games masters/ teachers in a
2- day programme which took place at Yenagoa, Bayelsa State December 19-20, 2012.
The programme which was conducted by Uthe Ogbimi, NCF Regional Development Officer for South-South
region was attended by a large crowd of students and very enthusiastic teachers and coaching assistants
under supervision of Mr. Tony Ayamah, Ex Nigerian and West African cricketer, who is also the Head Coach
for Bayelsa Cricket Association.
Teaching materials were handed to all the teachers which also included copies of England and Wales
Cricket Board Coaches Association wings to fly coaching DVDs, brought by the instructor. Video sessions
were included for illustration of coaching points.
-----------------------------------------------------------------Nigeria Cricket Federation hosted the Cricket event of the 18th National Sports Festival – Eko 2013 in Lagos,
Nigeria
Ogun clinched the gold medal in the One Day International (ODI) format of the cricket event of the 18th
National Sports Festival- Eko 2012.
Ogun defeated Delta state by 7 wickets to win the gold in the final played on Tuesday, December 4 at the
TBS oval. Delta placed 2nd, winning the silver medal.
Delta won the toss and elected to bat. Delta had no answer to the tidy bowling of Ogun as they collapsed
on 49 runs for 10 wickets in 27 overs.Ogun scored 50 runs for 3 wickets in 27.1 overs to secure victory.
Orogbosere kunle (Ogun) took 4 wickets for 8 in 3 overs.

In the third place match to decide the winner of the bronze medal, Rivers defeated Lagos by 60 runs. Rivers
won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 144 for 7 in 30 overs, Lagos scored 84 runs all out in 18.3 overs.
Oko-jaja Henry of Rivers took 3 wickets for 20 runs in 3 overs and Onikoyi Sigi, 3 wickets for 13 runs in 5
overs.
SEYCHELLES
The ICC-Africa sponsored a three day triple header introductory cricket courses which was hosted by the
Seychelles Cricket Association (SCA) at the Palace of Football in Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles and was
successfully facilitated by David Odhiambo from Kenya.
Odhiambo a level 2 coach, who besides being the development manager at Cricket Kenya is a qualified
cricket administrator and also a renowned cricket umpire in the Africa region and beyond currently one of
the members that form a strong 11-man ICC Associates and Affiliates International Umpires Panel.
First up was the introductory cricket course that began on the afternoon of Friday 23rd November, 2012.
The course attracted 14 candidates from the main Island of Mahe and involved largely students of the game
– a group of young cricketers taking part in the local leagues and some teachers from the schools around
the island that have been involved in cricket.

After the introduction by the facilitator explaining the aims and objectives of the course, the session took to
the field to use as much day light as there is possible to conclude outdoor activities before embarking on the
video presentation indoors when staying out becomes impossibility.
To conclude the events that evening the attendees were given an opportunity to ask questions on what they
had learnt before they proceeded indoors where a 30-minute video was run for them showing the points that
they had just learnt outdoors and also giving them a second look at the key points once again be it only
visual but to also fill in questions that might have evaporated during the activities outdoors. The second
morning brought about the fielding positions challenge that the participants did reasonably well although
further tests would have been preferred if only time allowed for this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------The inaugural edition of the Cricket Administrators Programme (CAP) on
community cricket was successfully held at the Palace of football in Victoria on
the 24th of November 2012 and brought together a group of 12 participants and
was again facilitated by David Odhiambo.
The course was very interactive and all the participants used the opportunity to
get the most out of the program. There were activities which were used by the
facilitator designed to help the participants better understand the course
content. The main idea of CAP is to produce cricket administrators of the
highest integrity. The concern has been that African countries have lagged
behind in terms of good administrative skills not so much with Seychelles
but of course this sort of training just go to strengthen whatever good work that
has been done or and is thought to be a generally well managed country
compared to rest of the her colleagues in the region. The course addressed
issues in regards to better administration and accountability.

The final day characterized by a heavy downpour for the better
part of the day saw an increased number of participants for the
umpires course since a few more would-be players on the day
were unable to take part in a planned match and hence chose
to join the rest in an expanded indoor training at the same
venue involving a total of 18 persons. This introductory course
sought to initiate the new umpires to the laws of the game and
the challenges that come with implementing the same on a
cricket field in an impartial manner within each umpires
individual jurisdiction.
Participants at the umpiring course keenly listen to the explanations from the facilitator on the final day. A
huge chunk of the 42 laws of cricket were covered to ensure that the graduates from this course had
something to take home with them as well as get the minimum necessary laws that will allow them to stand
in practice, school or friendly club games. The knowledge they possess however significant would not in the
facilitators estimation considered sufficient enough to get straight on to the big league especially the ones
attending for the very first time.
SWAZILAND
The Swaziland cricket association on Saturday the 08 December 2012 had its AIDS day commemoration
event through Jabez school with Remar Swaziland which is a hope house of orphaned children. There were
80 children on the day.
First, the kids were taught about AIDS and then they got to play different ball games rotating from each
sport to the next including cricket. After the event refreshments were provided to them.
TANZANIA
The ICC-Africa Senior Womens World Cup Qualifiers Tournament took place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania
from the 15th – 20th of December 2012
Four of Africa’s Associate membership National Teams took part in this event together with Two Full
member countries in Africa namely:

On the final day of the Pepsi ICC Africa Regional T20 Senior Women’s World Cup Qualifier, overnight rain
delayed starts on both grounds and forced a reduction in overs. Namibia faced Zimbabwe at University of
Dar Es Salaam in a match reduced to 15 overs meanwhile Kenya faced archrivals Tanzania at Annadil
Burhani which was reduced to 8 overs.
Namibia batters unable to get into double figures and could only manage 43 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in
15 overs. Zimbabwe’s Saili Sharyce took 2 wickets in 3 overs for 6 runs and Chatonzwa Christabell
achieved figures of 3 overs 2 for 12. In reply, Zimbabwe comfortably chased the target and scored 44 runs
for the loss of 2 wickets in 12.4 overs. The opening pair for Zimbabwe Burdett Ashley and Ndiraya Ashley
scoring 12 and 16 respectively. Zimbabwe won by 8 wickets.
At Annadil Burhani Kenya won the toss and elected to bat. In their 8 overs, Kenya scored 47 / 5 with
Mercyline Adhiambo Scoring 11 in 9 deliveries. Tanzania’s Fatuma Kibusa ending with figures of 2 overs 2
wickets for 9. Tanzania captain Monica Pascal started off the chase for Tanzania and was the top scorer
with 23 runs in 19 deliveries. Tanzania won by 9 wickets.

A Level One Coaching course was held in Jinja District found in the Eastern part of the Country at Jinja
Senior Secondary School. This area has produced very talented players some of whom have gone further to
feature for the National team. Almost half of the players on the current National Side studied in that District.
The Course was conducted by National Team Coach Martin Suji, attended by 20 participants from the
Eastern Region. Over the 3 days, the participants were engaged in practical and theoretical aspects of
Cricket Coaching. At the end of the Course, the participants wrote an exam. The participants will be
presented with Certificates after they have participated in coaching activities around the Country.
-----------------------------------------------------------------The National Women’s Team travelled to Dar es Salaam on 15th December 2012 to compete in the ICC
Africa Ladies T20 World Cup Qualifiers. The other teams at the tournament were South Africa, Zimbabwe,
Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia. Unfortunately the tour did not go as expected for the women who could only
manage a 4th place finish behind South Africa, Zimbabwe and hosts Tanzania. A meeting has been
convened with the Ladies Team Management to review the tournament and prepare for future
engagements.

The Under 19 Boys kicked off their training in the month of December in preparation for the Under 19 World
Cup Qualifiers scheduled for May 2013. The tentative team has mainly been picked from the players who
excelled in the Pepsi Boys Schools Cricket Week that ran in August 2012. The players are set to enter a 2
weeks training camp in January 2013 before most of them return to School in February. Training will
continue throughout the school term with players being invited for trial games in Kampala and Jinja.
The U17 and U13 Tournament was held in Kampala on 15th ,16th and 17th December 2012. The 3 day
tournament was held at Lugogo and Kyambogo Cricket Ovals where a total of 6 teams were invited to
participate, namely 3 Under 17 teams and 3 Under 13 teams, that played in their respective age groups. It
was a T20 Tournament played on a round robin basis which proved to be exciting and very competitive.
Several good players were selected from the tournament which will also be key in selecting the Under 19
team to represent Uganda at the World Cup Qualifiers in May 2013.
In preparation for the World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in Bermuda, the men’s team had a tour to
Nairobi from 29th November to 8th December 2012 played. A 3 day game and 4 50 over games were

played against Kenyan Select side. The 3 day game ended in a draw as there was no action in 2 of the 3
days due to rain. The 50 over games were shared between Uganda and Kenya with each winning and
losing 2 games. It was a tough tour for Uganda but one to learn from as well. Cricket Kenya put up sides
that gave good competition to the Ugandans. Players have picked the positives from the tour to prepare for
future engagements.

ZAMBIA
On Saturday 1st December 2012, Zambia joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Aids
Day, with the event theme been, “GETTING TO ZERO: I AM A YOUTH MAKING A CHANGE FOR AN HIVFREE ZAMBIA”.
Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) joined other local organizations in the commemoration of this day. ZCU
participated in the match past both in Lusaka and on the Copperbelt provinces. In Kitwe, the participants
matched from town centre to the Copperbelt Commercial and Agriculture Show grounds. The Copperbelt
event was graced by the Minister of Youth Sport and Child Development; Honourable Chishimba Kambwili,
USAID Representative Helen Ferary, First Family representative Mwelwa Sata and representatives from the
Donor Agencies and Aids Awareness Organizations. The ZCU participants from the Copperbelt comprised
of 40 school children and development officers drawn from the 5 districts namely Kitwe, Ndola, Mufulira,
Luanshya and Chingola. ZCU President Reuben Chama, Treasurer Peter Kang’ombe and the Office
Manager Mwila Chungu were among the people present at the event. The Office Manager took time to
sensitise the children about the dangers of HIV and AIDS. Ms. Chungu urged the children to stay away from
bad vices and engage themselves in sports activities such as cricket.

Meanwhile, in Lusaka 44 school going children and 5 teachers who acted as guides to the children took part
in the matching. Our 5 ZCU coaches based in Lusaka also took part in the AIDS Day proceedings.
Committee Members Mrs. Judy Mbulo and Mr. Yandikani Ng’andu represented ZCU at this important event.
The match past was from Shoprite Stores in the town centre to Edwin Imboela stadium through

was among the only three sporting organisations in attendance. A demonstration of the game of cricket was
done and parts of the rules were exhibited.

-----------------------------------------------------------------In its continued quest to develop and spread the game of cricket to all parts of the country, Zambia Cricket
Union has launched and introduced the game of cricket to the North Western Province of Zambia. The
launch was followed by an Introductory to Cricket course from 26th to 27th December, 2012 and attended
by 15 teachers from seven schools.
The launch and cricket course was given extensive coverage in the national print media, the Times of
Zambia and the North Western Province Community radio stations, Solwezi Radio and Kabanga Banga.
Most people in North Western Province do not know much about the game of cricket and with the
introduction of the game in the Province, a lot of interest is expected to be generated among the local
people of the area, especially among the school going children once schools reopen and the game
introduced to them. The community is also expected to benefit in that most of the rural people generally do
not engage in sporting activities and with cricket been introduced, they will have something to look forward
to, in as far as watching and playing the new sport of cricket is concerned.
All the 15 participants successfully completed the Introductory to Cricket Course and it is expected that with
the basic knowledge they have acquired in cricket coaching, they will go back to their respective schools
and start laying the ground work by imparting the knowledge to the pupils. The course objectives were to
provide the participants with a basic understanding of the game of cricket and the basic education of the
game has three important components namely,

(a)Playing and Coaching,
(b)Umpiring and
(c) Scoring
During the topic on coaching, batting basics, bowling basics and fielding basics were covered and
participants put through their paces by ZCU Development Cricket Officers. Modified games were also
played as part of practical sessions. The seven schools each received three sets of soft ball cricket
equipment to help in the setting up of school teams. All the participants are expected to form and start
coaching teams from their respective schools.

AFRICA CRICKET ASSOCIATION
The ACA Africa Under 19 Ladies Cup hosted by Uganda was held from
7th-10th December 2012. Six (6) teams participated in this three (3) day
Round robin format Tournament namely:- Uganda; Kenya; Botswana;
Tanzania; Mozambique and Rwanda.
The Tournament came to a climax on the 11th of December 2012 with an
entertaining game at Lugogo Cricket Oval where Uganda needed a wide to
chase down the 37 runs set by Tanzania, winning by 1 wicket. All in all, it was a wonderful tournament also
blessed with very good weather.
The Seven Ugandan Umpires were as follows: Francis Ekalungar, Baker Elonge,
John Trust Mayeku, Mohammed Lumu, Patrick Makumbi, Kwach Isaac and the reserve Umpire Simon
Kintu.

A closing ceremony was held at Nob View Hotel. Players were rewarded for their outstanding performances
during the tournament with Kenya scooping 2 of the 3 individual awards as below.
