SPEAKERS
Sally Bodenhamer, OD, began her healthcare career as an Occupational
Therapist, graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2001. A 2007
graduate of Northeastern State Oklahoma College of Optometry, she has been in
private practice with her father and brother for the past 7 years in Jefferson City,
MO. A Certified Diabetes Educator who provides Diabetic Eye Care at her local
community health center. Bodenhamer enjoys studying insulin and blood sugar
regulation and functional medicine approaches to ocular and systemic health.
Sharon Carter has more than 20 years of optometric experience including working
in an office as an office manager, sales, and training for an optometric software
company to consulting for private practices. She started her own consulting
company, Eye Care Optometric Consulting (ECOC), in 2001 and consults all
over the country spreading her team building philosophy. She is energetic and
enthusiastic and for more than 9 years has been speaking and motivating staff at
state, national, and international conferences sharing her company’s philosophy
of “provide the best patient care possible and the money will follow.”
Dr. Michael Chaglasian, OD, received his degree from SUNY College of Optometry
before completing a residency in primary care / ocular disease from Pennsylvania
College of Optometry. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Illinois College
of Optometry and Chief of Staff of the Illinois Eye Institute. He is in charge of the
Glaucoma Service at the IEI, providing patient care while instructing residents and
students. He limits his patient care to the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. He
is a founding member and current Treasurer of the Optometric Glaucoma Society
and has a number of published articles on the topics of glaucoma and visual fields.
Kia Eldred-McGee, OD, received her optometry degree at the University of
Houston College of Optometry and served on the faculty there for 20 years. She
currently is a staff optometrist at the DeBakey VA Medical Center in the VISOR
program. She has served on the executive committee of the AAO Low Vision
Diplomate program. She works with children with multiple disabilities in the
NOVA clinic. Eldred has consulted at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research
in the Texas Medical Center for 18 years. She serves as a Vision Rehabilitation
consultant to Educational Service Centers in Texas. Other interests in optometry
include international mission trips with the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.
Jeff Gamble, OD, is a native of Columbia, Missouri. After completing his
undergraduate studies at Missouri State University, he went on to earn his
optometric degree from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in
Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr. Gamble completed an externship at the Muskogee
Veterans Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, before joining Columbia Eye
Consultants-Optometry in 2002. Since that time he has been an active member of
the Missouri Optometric Association.

Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO, graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry
in 1997, then completed a residency on ocular disease and low vision at the VA
medical center in Kansas City. He joined the faculty at the University of Kansas
School of Medicine in ophthalmology department. His current practice, WestGlen
Eyecare, provides full scope care, and he provides retinal consultations for
colleagues and is involved in clinical research. Gerson has authored several journal
articles and lectures frequently on the topics of retinal disease and systemic
disease. He is a member of the AOA as well as the Kansas Optometric Association
which named him their 2008 young OD of the year.
Susan Lake, OD, earmed her optometry degree at SCO in Memphis completing
an internship in pediatric vision in Maryland. Lake turned her passion for vision
therapy into action by starting Vision and Learning Center (VLC) through her
optometry practice, Eyecare Specialties. The VLC offers vision, speech, and various
other custom therapies to bring about the full social and academic potential
for children. A frequent lecturer to parent groups, coaches, educators, nursing
organizations, OT’s, OD’s and PT’s, Lake is an advocate for the early recognition of
vision problems using vision therapy to resolve vision problems in children.
Cassidy Obermark, OD, is a 2012 graduate of University of Missouri-St. Louis
College of Optometry. She completed a residency in primary care and ocular
disease at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee Oklahoma.
This program, an affiliate of Northeastern State University College of Optometry,
allowed Obermark to precept third and fourth year optometry students in
NSUOCO campus clinics as well as at the Cherokee Nation Hastings Hospital. She
joined her father’s, Dr. Dan Obermark, practice in July 2013. They are located in
southeast Missouri with offices in Sikeston and Poplar Bluff.
Sam Pierce, OD, was elected to the AOA Board of Trustees in 2009 and re-elected
at Optometry’s Meeting® in 2014. Pierce is a member of the AOA Finance and
Investment Committees, and is board liaison to the AOA Advocacy Group, the
AOA Council on Research and the Third Party Center. A graduate of the University
of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry (UABSO) and a past president
of the UABSO Alumni Association, Pierce received the UABSO 2010 Alumnus of
the Year award, and in 2012 he received the Alabama Optometric Association’s
Optometrist of the Year award. He is in private practice in Trussville, Alabama.
Emily Thomas, OD, graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-St.
Louis College of Optometry in 2008. For the past six years she has worked at Vision
Clinic, a private practice with nine doctors serving four locations in Springfield,
Missouri. Thomas enjoys all aspects of private practice, but has a special interest
in specialty contact lens fittings, emergency eye care, and patient education.
Outside of practicing optometry, Dr. Thomas leads educational presentations to
school nurses, Parents As Teachers, and community organizations about children’s
vision and emergent eye conditions.
