2013 Yellow Table Top 50 Ranks SANY No. 5
Globally Among Construction Equipment Manufacturers
PEACHTREE CITY, Georgia (April 5, 2013) — SANY Heavy Industry Co.
Ltd., the parent of SANY America Inc., moved up one slot to become the
No. 5 construction equipment manufacturer in the world, according to the
2013 Yellow Table survey published by International Construction magazine.
The 2013 Yellow Table survey, due to be published in the April edition of
International Construction, estimated SANY’s 2012 construction equipment
sales revenue at $7.929 billion USD, up slightly from $7.861 billion in 2011.
SANY’s move to the No. 5 rank supplanted Liebherr, which fell to No. 7.
Caterpillar and Komatsu remained No. 1 and No. 2, while Hitachi overtook
Volvo for the No. 3 spot. SANY’s percentage of total revenue among the
Top 50 was unchanged at 4.3 percent. The survey ranks the Top 50 construction equipment manufacturers in the world.
“To achieve the No. 5 global ranking in a very difficult Chinese economy
is a testament to the strength of SANY in China, and our continued success
in markets outside of China,” said Tim Frank, chairman of SANY America
Inc. “With progress on almost all fronts globally, SANY continues to show its staying power. We are a
company built on a strong foundation, poised for continued growth, with aggressive targets. Now that
we have surpassed Liebherr, Volvo is next.”
Total revenue from the Top 50 manufacturers was $186 billion, up 2.6 percent from 2011. Chris
Sleight, editor of International Construction, attributed the lack of robust growth to weakness in the
Chinese economy. “While there was some growth in the market last year, things were relatively subdued,” Sleight said in a video preview of the 2013 Yellow Table. “The key factor that depressed growth
last year was the weak market in China.”
Six Chinese manufacturers in the Top 50 slipped in the rankings, Sleight said, and one other
company fell out of the Top 50 entirely. Overall, Chinese manufacturers had revenues of $27.9 billion
in 2012, down about 12 percent from 2011. “That was the first time in the 10-year history of the
Yellow Table that both revenues
and the Chinese manufacturers’
shares have fallen,” Sleight said.
The top 10 manufacturers
accounted for two-thirds of
the Top 50 revenue, a fact
Sleight said illustrates “how
important these large, long-line

Terex AC500-2 Takes Centre Stage
at Deep South Crane Rentals Open House
®
Pensacola, USA, April 2013 - More
than 200 people recently attended an
open house event organized by Pensacola-based Deep South Crane
Rentals, Inc. (DSC) to mark the arrival of
the company’s new 600 ton Terex® AC
500-2 All Terrain Crane. The crane was
purchased from Terex distributor Renegar-Driggers. The celebration took place
at Five Flag Speedway, Pensacola,
where customers, representatives of the
media and friends of DSC had the opportunity to experience the firm’s latest
and biggest crane.
In welcoming his guests, DSC’s vice
president, Jimmy White, Jr., explained
that the AC 500-2 was chosen for its excellent crane charts and travel weights, but in particular for its high performance luffing jib. Another reason instrumental to the purchase was the excellent relationship and support provided
by Terex Cranes Distributor Renegar-Driggers.
The crane will make its debut by lifting and positioning a 159,000 lb boiler at a radius of 59
ft at a new hydrogen plant in Pensacola for Ascend Performance Materials. The maximum
boom length of the AC 500-2 is 183.7 ft and maximum system length is 478.3 ft.
About the Terex AC 500-2 All Terrain Crane
With a carrier just 17.1 m (56 ft) long, the Terex® AC 500-2 is the most compact eight-axle
crane in its class. A maximum working height of 145.8 m (478 ft) can be achieved with a luffing
fly jib. The crane offers enormous power across the full lifting capacity range, through features
such as the improved design of the main boom cross-section and the reinforced sideways superlift system. The star-shaped outrigger layout provides excellent stability. Short setup times
and the IC-1 control system’s ease of use make for safe crane operations and comfortable
working conditions. The crane is powered by the latest engine technology, delivering
480 kW / 653 hp at 1800 rpm. The carefully thought-out drive design provides outstanding
transfer of engine power, yielding excellent performance on both the highway and the jobsite.
About Deep South Crane Rentals, Inc.
Founded in 1979 by James ‘Jimmy’ H. White Sr.,
family-owned and managed DSC continues to
grow and is now recognized and respected as a
leading name in the crane sector. Headquartered
in Pensacola, FL with a branch office in Panama
City, the company enjoys an excellent reputation
for service, safety and the quality and reliability of
its cranes.

Equipment Company
Manitowoc 31000 Crawler Crane
Arrives in South Korea
One of the world’s biggest
crane rental companies is
using one of the world’s
biggest cranes. South
Korea’s Chunjo Construction Co. has taken delivery
of the largest capacity
crawler crane ever designed
and built by Manitowoc – the
Manitowoc 31000.
Chunjo has added the
2,300 t (2,535 USt) crawler
to its rental fleet and will
supply it to contractors
around the globe, including
those working on nuclear
power plants. The crane’s
first job is at a Posco E&C
plant in Gwangyang, South
Korea, where cutting-edge
technology is making liquefied gas from low-grade coal. There, the crane is making
12 lifts for three of the plant’s vessels and is setup with 55 m of boom and a 60 m
luffing jib.
Of special interest to Chunjo is the Manitowoc 31000’s Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) system, which ranges from 8 m (28 ft) fully retracted to 29 m (95
ft) fully extended. The VPC minimizes the crane’s footprint and ground preparation.
Chang Hwan Jang, chairman at Chunjo, explained why the company is so attracted to the 31000’s VPC system.
“The Manitowoc 31000 has a tremendous capacity and we will be able to use it
for heavy lifts on a diverse number of projects,” he said. “But the real advantage is
the crane’s VPC, which will keep the footprint of the crane manageable, giving us
more space to work on the job site.”
Also part of the deal, Chunjo purchased three 600 t (660 USt) Manitowoc 18000
crawler cranes to add to its fleet. When working with the MAX-ER attachment, the
18000’s capacity is boosted to 750 t (825 USt). It boasts a 97.5 m (320 ft) boom.
In fact, Chunjo owns more Manitowoc 18000s than any other company in the
world. And that’s not the only superlative it holds rights to - the company owns more
Grove rough-terrain cranes than any other in the Far East.
Not including the four recent additions, Chunjo possesses: 9 Manitowoc 18000s,
5 Manitowoc 777s, 4 Grove GMK4100Ls, 3Grove GMK5100s, 17 Grove RT875Es,
9 Grove RT760Es, 59 Grove RT650Es, 18 Grove RT530Es

Manitowoc Crawler Cranes
Perform Record-Breaking Lift
Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General
Dynamics Corporation, knows a thing or two
about heavy lifts. The Bath, ME.-based
company has been building warships for the
U.S. Navy for 128 years. This past December,
Bath Iron Works broke its own heaviest lift
record using two Manitowoc 16000 crawler
cranes to pick nearly 1,000 USt–more than
double the weight previously lifted by the
shipyard.
The lift was part of a project to construct
the Navy’s next-generation DDG 1000
Zumwalt-class destroyer warship. Along with
two of the company’s 331 USt capacity gantry
cranes, the two Manitowoc crawlers lifted a 992 USt deckhouse off of a barge and set
it on the hull of the ship. The deckhouse contained the ship’s bridge, command center
and battle room.
The two Manitowoc 16000s were setup to lift at their full capacity, requiring the use
of MAX-ER attachments, boosting their capacities to 440 USt. The crawler crane
features a 315 ft boom – though, for this lift it was rigged for 157 ft – an EPIC control
system and a closed-loop hydraulic circuit system, which enables independent,
variable-speed operation of the swing, load hoist, boom hoist and travel functions.
The deckhouse was lifted from a barge to 89 ft in the air and held in place for three
hours. Twelve nylon straps held the deckhouse while the barge was moved out from
underneath it and the ship, which weighed 13,228 USt, was floated into place
underneath. Finally, the cranes lowered the 155 ft long by 60 ft tall deckhouse onto the
ship’s hull. The completed vessel weighed nearly 14,330 USt.
Woolwich, ME.-based contractor Reed & Reed oversaw the lift, which included
renting the cranes to Bath Iron Works and supplying their operators. The company has
been working with Bath Iron Works since 1928, when it was founded. It chose the
Manitowoc 16000s, the largest capacity cranes in Reed & Reed’s fleet, because the lift
required two matching cranes for uniformity and simplicity. Reed & Reed has a regular
stream of work for its 16000s, mostly for the construction of wind turbines.
Manchester, CT.-based Shawmut Equipment sold both the cranes to Reed & Reed
and acted as liaison between Bath Iron Works and Manitowoc, providing important
logistical information for the project. In all, the lift took 18 months of planning among
Bath Iron Works, Reed & Reed, Manitowoc and Shawmut Equipment. Manitowoc
provided a full-time factory representative to the job site that instructed the crew on
proper transport, assembly procedures, testing and lifting for the project.
After the success of the first lift and construction, two more DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class
destroyers are under construction and due at Bath Iron Works in the next year. Bath Iron
Works’s 5,200 employees, Reed & Reed, Shawmut Equipment and Manitowoc all look
forward to more record-breaking lifts.

First Terex Superlift 3800 Crawler Crane Delivered
®
OLDENBURG, GERMANY, March 28th, 2013 –
German lifting and transport specialist Ulferts & Wittrock took delivery of the first Terex® Superlift 3800
Crawler Crane. Five months after its official launch,
Ulferts & Wittrock received the crawler crane with a 153
m (502 ft) main boom and a 12 m (39 ft) light fixed jib
(LF) in combination with a Vario-superlift system with
counterweight tray.
“We believe in investing in the latest technology to
maintain our leadership position in the lifting business.
When we heard about the Superlift 3800, we were impressed and we are convinced it’s the new benchmark
in this class,” says Klaus Wittrock, Co-owner. “We perform jobs all over Europe, so its outstanding transportability and efficient use of counterweight is a huge plus
for us.” Successor to the highly successful Terex
CC2800, the Superlift 3800 is a completely new crane
that has been designed from the start with the objective of increasing the return on investment for customers.
“We own a Terex TC2800-1 Lattice Truck Crane and a CC2800-1 Crawler Crane
and we are very satisfied with their performance. When it comes to the Superlift 3800,
we are actually positively surprised by what this crane is capable of.” states Hermann
Ulferts, Co-owner and CEO. “We will be erecting wind turbines with this crane, and the
fact that a crane of this class can erect 150 m (492 ft) wind turbines is a remarkable
achievement,” Hermann adds.
Ulferts & Wittrock erected the Superlift 3800 in purchased configuration in their
yard, and crane operators Albert Schroer and Heiko Ramke got the chance to be the
first operators to experience the new crawler cabin design and use this crane. “I love
the huge cabin and layout, the visibility and comfort is outstanding” says Albert. And
his colleague Heiko adds: “I am impressed how easy it is to operate, and I am honored
to be one of the first crane operators using this machine.”
