PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Congratulations Mrs Mellross
I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Mellross has been successful in gaining a promotion through
merit selection. She has been appointed as Assistant Principal at Gosford East Public School.
Whilst this is great news for Mrs Mellross it means that we will be losing Mrs Mellross from our
school. Mrs Mellross will take up her new role at the beginning of Term 2. Mrs Mellross has been
teaching at Terrigal for 17 years!
The appointment process for Mrs Mellross is still underway and her position hasn’t been released
yet. The Department of Education and Communities may appoint someone or we may be given an
opportunity to select a new teacher. I will know more once the appointment processes are
completed for Mrs Mellross.
Election BBQ and Cake Stall
The state election will be held on Saturday 28th March and our school will be a polling place. The
P & C intend to hold a fundraising BBQ and cake stall on the day.
There will be bacon and egg rolls in the morning and sausages all the time. Cold drinks will be
available and there will be yummy cakes as well.
Can you help with the BBQ or cakes?
The P & C are looking for volunteers. There will be several slots and you can volunteer for a short
time or all day.
6am – 8am, 8am – 10am, 10am – 12noon, 12 – 2pm, 2 – 4pm
If you can’t help with the BBQ bring along a cake, muffins or similar. These can be dropped off to
school on the Friday or to the stall on Saturday. Donated cakes will need an ingredient list
included.
There is a slip included with today’s newsletter for you to return if you are able to help.
Harmony Day – Everyone Belongs
This Friday we celebrate the cultural diversity of our school in the lead up to Harmony Day on the
21st March. We are lucky to have students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.
Why do we recognise and celebrate Harmony Day? We want all students and their families to feel
that they ‘belong’ to our school community. One of the key messages through our Kidsmatter and
You Can Do It programs is that everyone matters, everyone is important and we all need to get
along.’
We recognise that our students and families have come together to call Australia home, from our
indigenous traditional custodians to those that have come from thousands of kilometres away. We
celebrate our individuality and diversity but we also take pride in that we are all Australians and
part of the Terrigal Public School family.
Simply recognising the diversity in our community is a step forward. Taking time to understand
someone else’s cultural background helps grow our society.
Just this year we have had families arrive from Finland, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom and
several others. We have 67 students that are identified as having a language background other
than English – this covers 30 different languages.
My challenge to students is to look beyond their friendship group. See other people, aim to say
hello to at least one other person you haven’t spoken to before and ask them about their
background.
Congratulations our new P & C Executive
We had a great roll up to our P & C AGM meeting on Monday evening. Thank you to all of those
parents and carers for coming along and being part of the meeting.
Our new P & C executive was elected at the AGM. Congratulations to:

Vice President - Belinda Tolman

We had many other students achieve at a high level. Allanah swam a close fourth in the 100
freestyle.
Thanks to Mrs Burge for her management of the team.
