This service provides quality furnishings and in some instances
decoration to new and existing tenants who have a need for the
service.
Assessing the needs of our tenants will be a key factor in
making sure we offer an affordable furniture package that will
suit the individual and their circumstances
Four Packages
We have developed four new furniture
packages that we believe will help our
tenants to keep and enjoy their tenancy.

GHA Furniture Service
Can you apply for a furnished let?
Does this affect your benefits?
Yes, however you first need agreement from your Local Housing
Organisation (LHO).
If you are in receipt of Housing Benefit your entitlement should
not be affected. The service charge for your furnishings may be
eligible for Housing Benefit payment. You should contact your
local Glasgow City Council Revenue and Benefit Centre or your
Local Housing Provider, to confirm any entitlement you may
qualify for. All furnished lets are allocated in line with the Local
Housing Providers Allocations Policies. For further details of our

How do you apply for a furnished let?
Applying is easy:
If you are an existing tenant you can advise your Local Housing Office that you wish to apply for a furniture package
If you are a new applicant you can select furnished accommodation on your housing application form
If you are homeless you should discuss your request for a furniture package with your community caseworker.

How long does it take to receive your new furniture?
For new tenants, your furnishings will be in place on the day you move into your home
For existing tenants, if you choose an emergency or basic package, up to 3 working days; a medium package up to
7 working days; a full package up to 10 working days.
How much does it cost?
We offer four different packages with varying term lengths and
service charges. You can find out details of our service charges
from your LHO, or by contacting us on 0800 479 7979. Charges
are in addition to your monthly rental charge.
Household Contents Insurance
We all know accidents can happen so it’s important to have
protection in place for when the unexpected or the unthinkable
happens. At GHA we would encourage you to consider insuring
your belongings. If you have a question about insurance or
would like to receive our Home Contents Information Pack call

Partnership Working
To help make sure our tenants have affordable options when
furnishing their home, GHA also works in partnership with other
organisations. These organisations may be of help to you at
this time and include recycling projects that provide services
that incorporate the concept of furniture recycling. Details of our
partner organisations follow.

Starter Packs Glasgow sources household goods on a mostly
reuse basis, they then redistribute these to people who require
basic household items to set up their new homes in permanent
tenancies. Starter Packs Glasgow is committed to helping people
in need to set up their new homes with basic items such as:
Glasgow Furniture Initiative (GFI) provides a complete home
furnishing service for those who require quality, reusable, low
cost furniture. The service is specifically designed to benefit
those on low incomes, so all household furniture and white
goods are offered for sale at low cost…and the environment
benefits too!

Speak to your Local Housing Organisation (LHO) who may be
able to arrange this for you.
Starter Packs Glasgow also supply a wide range of household
goods, including some furniture at very low cost.

Second Opportunities is a non profit making organisation and
registered charity within Scotland. At their Broomloan Road
premises they store, prepare and display donated low cost
furniture ready for sale to the public and service users.
A selection of the main household items required to furnish a
home is available as new. By combining reused, recycled and
new goods, customers and service users can create a furniture
package to suit their own tastes and limited budgets.

Spruce Carpets sell carpet and carpet tiles, both quality
refurbished and new, at incredibly low prices. They also stock
vinyl ends to suit your kitchen and bathroom. Spruce has
showrooms in Govan and Shawlands and provide delivery and
fitting services.

Fab Pad

Fab Pad is a creative employability and housing project, working
with people to help them sustain their tenancies. The main
focus of Fab Pad is to offer you the opportunity to work with
an interior designer to get the ideas and learn the skills to turn
your new flat or house into a home, effectively reducing the
risk of the tenancy breaking down. The Fab Pad programme
is for individuals aged between 16-25 who have experienced
homelessness or are at risk of losing their home. In many cases
this is due to a change of circumstance, this could be financial,
family breakdown, poor physical and mental health or for
whatever reason not having the skills required to create and
maintain a comfortable home environment.

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue offer FREE home fire safety visits to
everyone. Just call 0800 0731 999, text “Check” to 61611 on
your mobile phone or simply fill in the form online at: www.
strathclydefire.org/cs/hfsv/asp
Your local fire station will then contact you within 7 days to
arrange a time and date that suits you. Alternatively you can
phone your local fire station direct to arrange a home safety
visit. During the visit firefighters will check each room of your
house with you, helping you to make sure your house is safe.
If you don’t have a working smoke alarm, contact your local
housing office who will arrange to have one fitted.
