Approximately 1.5 million American students begin the journey to become a
National Merit Scholar. Qualifiers for the program are chosen based upon their
score on the PSAT/MNSQT exam. Students are then eliminated a bit at a time
going from 1.5 million to 50,000 and then to 34,000 Commended Scholars.
From there only 16,000 students are named as Semi-Finalists. Then in September, approximately 15,000 are notified that they are Finalists. Finalists are the
top 1% of students who began this journey. We are proud to announce that
PHS Student James Jones is one of the National Merit Finalists.
We are so proud of our wrestlers and Coach Darren Snyder. At the
UIL State Championships in February, Gabe Costa became the first
state champion in Prosper Wrestling history! He is also the first Prosper wrestler to place 3 times at the state tournament (6th-2nd1st). He avenged last years finals loss with a 6-2 victory in the semifinals.
The girls team set a record with 3 placers and a 3rd place team finish! Chloe Wujek led the charges with her second finals appearance
in two years.
The results are:
Boys- 13th
Girls - 3rd
Gabe Costa - 1st
Chloe Wujek - 2nd
Alyssa Hall - 4th
Alyssa Alvarez - 4th

This spring break our debate team spent its time in Austin competing at our first state championship of the
year, TFA State. This tournament was extremely competitive because we competed directly against public
and private schools of all sizes across the state.
I’m proud to report that we had a state finalist this year, Alex Howe, who represented Prosper in Congressional Debate. Alex was also named outstanding presiding officer at the state tournament. Zach Elmer advanced to state quarter finals in International Extemporaneous
Speaking, establishing himself as one of the best speakers in Texas.
If you see these students, please congratulate them on a successful
TFA season. I can assure you that a lot hard work and preparation
went into this tournament. Prosper Debate is now gearing up for
UIL district which takes place in a few weeks.
There are 14 matches in the season and the Prosper Lady Eagles were undefeated with a 14-0 record. Prosper Lady Eagles Varsity Bowling Team was awarded the District Championship and recognized for being the first undefeated team.
Representing Prosper in the 1st and 2nd spot in District are Kennedi Laughlin and DaiMone Lewis who were selected to compete
in the All District Team in College Station in April . Only the top 8 in the district are selected. Ally Campbell and Kyla Simons
have been chosen as All District Team 2 and Rhea Kurtti received All District Honorable Mention.
The next stop for these bowlers was Regionals on March 6th. Congratulations to both bowling teams for a great day at regionals. Boys got 10th, ending their season, but did a fantastic job. The girls brought their A games. They placed 2nd advancing to
State. Kennedi Laughlin and DaiMone Lewis advanced to State as individuals, as well. State will be in San Antonio. Wish these
ladies luck.
Returning this year are Sophomore, Kyla Simons, Juniors, Rhea Kurtti, DaiMone Lewis, Ally Campbell, Kennedi Laughlin, Senior,
Johna Graham. The Lady Eagle Bowlers added some new additions to the team as well, Exchange student from Japan, Junior,
Yuriko Onodera and Freshman Hayley Merrell. The team is led by Mickie Tate, pro-bowler and all around great coach.
Also joining the Lady Eagle at Regionals this year is the Eagle Varsity Bowlers, also led by Coach Mickie Tate and Juniors, Brett
Rau, Mason McCarter and Joseph Williams; Sophomores Jared Radcliffe, Daniel Pena and Raymond Stuver

The Prosper Eagle Soccer team has finished their season with a record of
9-8-3. The team was led by Seniors Alex Butler, Liam Gamboa, Dylan Garrett, Jose Hernandez, James Ma, Cristian Ordoñez, Edisson Ramos, Cooper
Tate, and Crew Ybarra. The team finished 5th in district play.
The Lady Eagles
have had a busy
last two weeks
as they competed in 3 district matches. In those 3 games, the Lady Eagles beat
Wylie, tied Lovejoy and lost in a shootout, and tied McKinney and won in a
shootout. It was an up and down week that saw us solidify 2nd place in District
10-5A. This is the 8th consecutive year that the PHS Lady Soccer team has advanced to playoffs.
As it stands now, we will match up with Frisco Liberty in the first round of the
playoffs. Our game will either be 3-24, 3-25 or 3-26. More information will come
out as soon as the date, site and time are solidified. We appreciate your continued support as we push forward into the playoffs! Go Lady Eagles!!!

Saturday, February 27, Prosper High School took over
100 artworks to compete in the Visual Arts Scholastic
Event, also known as VASE. The mission of the
TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is to
recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a
standard of excellence in which to achieve. Events are
divided in to TEA regions. Prosper is in Region 10.
Region 10 is so large that it is divided in to sub regions. The region 10N event took place at Williams
High School in Plano ISD. Works are divided into
four divisions based on the artistic experience of the
artist. Artists only compete against other artists in the
same division. Over 30,000 Texas students will participate in VASE each year.
Students must attend the Regional Event and have
their original artwork with them at the time of their
adjudication. All student artworks are "qualified" by a
qualification panel prior to being juried. Artwork not
meeting the qualification standards are disqualified.
Jurors interview each artist, then evaluate artwork
using a numeric rating system based on an established
rubric. Artworks receiving a Superior Rating (IV) are
presented a Regional Medal. 80 Prosper High School
students received a medal at the Regional competition. From the Regional medalists, works are reevaluated at the Regional level and pieces are then chosen
to advance to the State competition. Three of our
Prosper ISD students will be representing Region 10N
at the state competition in April. Those students are
Amelia Webb, Diem-Tho Le and Nikki Trujillo. Nikki is in Division II, Mrs. Mock is her teacher. Amelia

attracted schools from 4 different states spanning the
south and southwest United States.
