fall 2011 inspirations
LITERARY
pursuits
Make room for books. Technology has
brought us new ways to read but our
love for paper bound books is back.
Whether leather bound or bright and
cheerful, books are now seen as valued
objects in décor that express our love
for the literary arts.
FLOWERING
lavender
This look is as much about the trend-right
color as the stunning flower. With the
movement toward natural living, we are
increasingly interested in the therapeutic
virtues of lavender. The look is soft and
serene, perfect for adding this season’s
hottest color to walls.
NEW
regency
This look is fit for a Queen. Regally
inspired motifs are mixed and matched
with fresh design for a royal look without
the King’s ransom. The New Regency is
divine in shades of Tiffany Blue long seen
as the color of upper crust living.
FLOWER
power
Images of flowers in home décor have
been a mainstay throughout time. Over
the years florals have continually evolved
and this season is no different. Our artists
have created a fresh look with blooms
popping off the page either as silhouettes,
in bright pop-inspired palettes or with a
macro perspective.

MID CENTURY
glamour
From Hollywood to the streets of Paris,
the classic styling from the mid 1950s
and 60s is all the rage. From soft pastels
to the ultra glam of high heels and jewels,
this trend continues to inspire Fashion
Houses and artists alike.
LOST & FOUND
documents
Everything old is new again. As we move
ever forward into a digital age, our love
and admiration for hand-crafted art
increases. From vintage type to handdone calligraphy, this look adds vintage
artistry to collections.

artist biographies
Emily Adams
Emily Adams finds inspiration in her many surroundings, from the vibrancy of the city to the quiet of the countryside. She
often contemplates her next painting while wandering through bustling antique markets or enjoying a meditative garden stroll.
Her work is known for stylishly capturing a juxtaposition of modern and old world elements. Whether she paints florals or an
object found on one of her many adventures, it is always rendered with soft brushstrokes and a varied palette.
Sam Appleman
Sam Appleman incorporates his love and admiration of American style into every part of his life, from the interior design of his
home, to the art emerging from his studio. Throughout his career as an accomplished carver and woodworker, Sam has found
inspiration in his abiding love, appreciation and regard for early American crafted furniture, architecture and folk art. His work
is often inspired by road trips throughout the country to small American towns. “I love pairing a sleek contemporary design
with antique distressing. It adds texture making that piece stand out as a representation of what we are ... a country based on
history but moving into the future.”
Cristin Atria
Cristin Atria is inspired by the architecture and life of the American South, which she captures so wonderfully in her photographs.
A self-taught artist, she adds dimension to her work with the use of color.Starting with a black and white photo, Cristin hand
paints the image with oil paint, using various films and developing techniques to achieve an antique look. Cristin’s natural eye
for color and design is evident in her work, which offers an interesting interpretation of classic images.
Natasha Barnes
“Art is what I do. Every painting is a mood, a reflection of what is happening in my mind. Some days are quiet – some days are
abstract.” Every day is a painting for artist Natasha Barnes, a whole new way of looking at my world. “Inspirations are found in
my travels. I absorb the moments and transfer the feelings to my canvas, bright and bold. Every stroke moulds my signature; in
so doing, creating another piece of Natasha Barnes. This is my art.”
Chad Barrett
Chad Barrett's work expresses narratives in subject and context: landscapes that capture the mystery of a country tableau, stilllifes that dramatize the juxtaposition of shapes and movement, portraits that play with divine elegance and period style. Barrett
earned degrees in painting and art history from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While attending, he discovered that
he could combine classical painting techniques with a sophisticated use of Southern decorative tradition, to create art that is
simultaneously original and familiar.
Christine Caldwell
“My work illuminates the natural world, enabling the viewer to become a tourist in a surreal display of natural specimens.”
Christine Caldwell was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Moving to California she attended the Art Center College of
Design in Pasadena where she graduated with a BFA in Photography. A successful commercial photographer, she combines her
photographic talents with lab expertise, delivering images to a wide range of Publications and Ad Agencies.

bold, graphic layouts for commercial projects provided a formula that she uses to tackle each art piece. Combining organic and
geometric elements, cool with warm color palettes, as well as painterly and graphic elements, gives her work a unique look
that is appealing to her audience. “Most importantly I like to include a whimsical touch to provoke a smile in today’s serious
environment.”

through an antique market, flipping through old photos, or sharing tender moments with her children is all she needs. “I am
forever intrigued by the treasures left for us to enjoy, as visions of old movie posters and vintage prom dresses dance through
my head, I feel the beautiful rhythm of life before me. My work is simply an expression of my heart, inspired by my children
and simple life experiences.”

been commissioned by, and is included in the private collections of American Express, Sheraton Hotels, CBS and RCA Records,
Penguin Press, Mellon Bank and many others. Her artwork is known for its fearless use of color and uninhibited brushwork.

Booker Morey
Booker Morey is an engineer by training, an inventor by nature, and a craftsman by aspiration. He sees the forms of nature as
being more elegant than any he can create, and is excited to celebrate the hidden wonder of the construction of a common
leaf, as shown by the etching process he discovered. Inspired and intrigued by the work of pioneering artists in the field of
skeletonized leaves, Booker sought to develop his own unique process. His former career in chemical and physical process
research helped him find a way to give leaves a lacey effect. After many tries, a process emerged which enabled Booker to
reveal the fine patterns found in many native North American leaves.
Melissa Pluch
A well-known jewelry designer, Melissa Pluch has never forgotten her passion for painting. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts
movement and Art Nouveau era art, Melissa is drawn to the use of elegant line and shape taken from the natural world. “My
works are influenced by objects of everyday life such as vases, bowls and furniture. I find the representation of those simple
everyday sculptural elements very beautiful.” Melissa began to admire the Japanese design sensibility noting that, “Its flowing
delicacy and visual balance is what I am always trying to achieve.”
Regina-Andrew Design
Blending the latest tastes in color, style and home accents with time-tested motifs, Regina-Andrew Design creates what they
call, “art on the cutting edge of yesterday.” “Partners in business and life,” Carla Regina Zajac and James Andrew Slaven are as
diverse as their growing clientele. Their stylistic vision has evolved from deliberately combining “accidental” texturing and tone
with beautiful traditional images.
Walter Robertson
Walter Robertson integrates his formal training as an interior designer and fine artist and photographer with a life long passion
for his sunny southern California garden to create award-winning artwork. His unique style has attracted the attention of many
manufacturers and his creations have been licensed for textiles, wall-paper and stationery products.
“I firmly believe that true value appears where awareness, harmony and passion meet. My creativity is channeled from the
endless source of inspiration provided by nature. It is a dynamic process: I constantly re-invent my work, incorporating new
looks, ideas and dynamics as fashion and design trends evolve. The series of hand colored collages presented here marry the
rich textures and colors of my garden with the charm of antique botanical prints.”
Devon Ross
From a young age, Devon Ross wanted to become an artist. “My family encouraged me to be creative. Whether it was crayons,
paints, or simply exploring my world, I always felt free to discover my inner spirit.” Growing up, Devon’s family often moved,
looking for new horizons to explore. Europe was a favorite destination, Devon spent hours painting and drawing the peaceful
landscapes of the European countryside. Devon’s love of antiquities was the inspiration for a collection of personal treasures
which are proudly displayed in the artist’s studio.
Colleen Sarah
Colleen Sarah is inspired by many things around her; the beauty of objects that are hand-made and imperfect, the patina of
objects that have been worn by the passage of time, the contrast of realistically rendered images and abstract backgrounds,
color and light and most importantly the beauty in nature. “I hope my art inspires the viewer and reminds them of the beauty
that is around us. I love to experiment and try new techniques; my goal is to find a fresh approach to painting everyday objects.”
As a mixed media artist who loves to work with acrylic, gouache, coloured pencil, collage, and watecolours, Colleen also enjoys
interior design, faux finishing, decorative painting, and non-representational painting.
Jill Schultz McGannon
Jill Schultz McGannon became interested in painting landscapes in Cortona, Italy where she spent the summer as an Artist
in Residence with the University of Georgia. She found a new interest in painting en plein air from the hilltops surrounding
Cortona, and recently returned to Tuscany and Umbria to paint and photograph the Italian landscape. With the resulting
paintings, she not only affords herself time spent in nature, but also hopes to impress upon the viewer the beauty and value
of the diminishing landscape.

in a different direction in University. After schooling in physical education, Sandra returned to her love of painting and for the

Angela Staehling
Known for capturing the essence of romantic living, Angela Staehling seeks inspiration from her deep-rooted family values, her
Italian heritage, and her strong sense of tradition. Educated in America and England, she has years of experience in graphic
design, illustration, and painting. She cannot help but create art that captures the romance of the simple things in life. Heavily
influenced by her European ancestry and travels, her art triggers the emotion, passion, and love shared among the closest of
family and friends.
Bret Staehling
For photographer, Bret Staehling, there's nothing like the allure of a far away destination, exploring foreign lands, experiencing
new cultures, and interacting with the locals. Bret's earliest published photography, for his university newspaper, primarily
involved sporting events. But today he is focused on travel, usually sharing the adventure with his wife, Angie and their three
children. Traveling in Europe with his family for one year only served to fuel the fires of his passion for photography. His style
is both modern and classical with a refinement and energy that defines the love of his subject matter. “My goal is to share the
beauty and diversity that I have discovered on my travels and to do it in such a way as to inspire, enrich and edify those who
view my work.”
Studio 5
Five energetic artists are the foundation of Studio 5. Working from their riverside studio, they are surrounded by the magnificent
beauty and silence of nature while only a short drive from the intense urban rush of a major cosmopolitan centre. Inspired
by fashion, home décor and everything stylish, they collaborate on various artistic projects, creating collections that are both
beautiful and imaginative.
Elle Summers
Being from New York, Elle Summers was influenced by both the dramatic ambiance of the city and the peaceful solitude of the
country where her family escaped each summer. It was this juxtaposition of hard and soft, dark and light that led her to study
abroad in Europe. Specializing in textile design, Elle's sought after collections are influenced by the elements that surround her.
"The beauty of nature, historical artifacts and architecture amaze and inspire me. All I have to do is look around to find that
one spark that illuminates my next piece."
Evangeline Taylor
Inspired by popular culture and urban fashion, Evangeline Taylor’s collections are edgy, current and brimming with youthful
energy. Up and coming in the art world, Evangeline combines photography, screen printing techniques and digital imagery into

Inspired by the vast beauty of nature, James Wiens has been a professional artist for more than 20 years. Using the texture of
wood or canvas as the base of his creations, he paints primarily in oils. “For me being an artist is who I am. I have always been
an artist. There is nothing else I want to do.” Formally trained, James captures his subject matter in a style he simply describes
as “easy”. He has achieved much success with his art, due to his dedication, versatility and hard work.
Norman Wyatt Jr.
For as long as he can remember, artist Norman Wyatt Jr. has always been involved in the Fine Arts. Much of Norman's
inspiration comes from his past professional experiences. As a senior in college, Norman worked at an African-inspired gift shop,
constantly surrounded by authentic sculptures, fabrics, and jewelry. Norman equates being an artist to a sponge, constantly
absorbing everything visually, to resurrect for later use. He loves the gift of being an artist and never takes it for granted.
Z Studio
Z Studio combines their varied backgrounds in design, architecture, textiles, horticulture and fashion, to form new innovative
ideas and creations. Their distinctive collections combine various artistic techniques to create fresh collections with infinite
style. Z Studio’s vision is to create art that spans all tastes, from the ultra modern to vintage. Their motto “create with passion”
truly represents their enthusiasm for designing art that captures the eye and the mind of customers around the world.
