“Thank you for doing a very professional job on my roof. I am not easily pleased with
most contractors, ASC is the exception! Your crew was on time, sometimes even early.
There are no leaks and it looks great. ASC was not the cheapest, which proves you get
what you pay for.”

T
he Board of Directors began the Annual property inspections approximately January
11th, South of Briar Creek Boulevard; and, in February, North of Briar
Creek Boulevard, Shady Oak, Live Oak, Magnolia and Dogwood.
There will be a sign-up sheet on the director's board, or e-mail me at garend@
mybriarcreek.com or call 727-725-5844. I will not perform the inspection;
however I will supervise the inspections and act as an appeal process, if you
disagree with an inspector’s opinion. If there is no resolution after the appeal, then you can
petition a three-member panel of the Board of Directors who will make a final decision. The
inspectors will inspect the entire property with emphasis on curb or street appeal.

NEW COLORS!
e have been getting locally-owned landscaping bids for some work in
front of the Clubhouse which will bring a big change to the view! Our idea is to take
out the circle with the Crepe Myrtle tree in the center, which only blooms once per
year, and replace it and the 20+year old bushes surrounding it with a colorful change. Also,
the hedges on the Clubhouse wall itself in the front of the Clubhouse, 20+ years old, will be
removed along with the roots that are pulling the stonework away from the building itself and
new dirt, mulch and fertilizer put in, along with new soaker hoses on timers (the old ones are
dry rotted and falling apart) and colorful perennial plants which will be low care and bring
color to the front of the building all year long!
We will be submitting these improvements to Safety Harbor’s Matching Grants Program
for the return of 1/2 of our investment. This application paperwork will not be reviewed by
Safety Harbor until April so we are in no big hurry to begin the actual project and the weather
at this time is not conducive to new plantings anyway.
The sides of the building, east and west will also be redone but not until next year and
again, the grant for that work will be applied for at that time. .
We hope that our residents will enjoy these new improvements and agree with us that the
time has come to enhance the exterior of our Clubhouse in new and exciting ways.

Wednesday Meetings
E
very Wednesday morning, there is a coffee meeting for all Phase 1 residents, (plus their
visitors). Coffee and pastries are available for purchase at 8:30AM. The "official"
meeting starts at 9:30AM.
Social Club
Dave Doran
O
n January 31st the Social Club held a workshop to address some issues with the priority
on nominations for Social Club for the coming year. This list is posted on the bulletin
board in the clubhouse and will be announced on Wednesday, February 10th at coffee
hour and voted on at the Social Club meeting directly following coffee hour. Many interesting
ideas were exchanged and we all will be working hard towards making this coming year a
wonderful time for all of us. Remember, if you have ideas or suggestions, there has been a box
marked for just this purpose on the shelf rack by the front door for a year; use it, we are eager
to hear from you. Thank you for all who attended the workshop.

lways new stuff arriving, great dining tables and bedroom sets, lots of interesting
kitchen goodies, even a portable dish washer, speakers, pictures. Your dreams live on,
come see us on Wednesday and Saturday AM, we always have some laughter and
good moments. Remember, it is open to everyone and the $$ go towards supporting all the
Social Club activities. Got stuff you want to get rid of, call us and donate it -- remember, it
must be clean, it must work and it must be saleable.
Buying Social Club Event Tickets?
T
ickets for upcoming Social Club Events are offered every Wednesday
morning, from 8:00 to 9:15AM. If you don't have cash with you for the
events, you can write a check (payable to the Briar Creek Social Club),
or you have the option to "reserve" a place for which you can pay the following Wednesday
morning.
Alice Hall is now handling our ticket sales and she is usually at the clubhouse on Wednesday
mornings around 8:00, sitting near the poolside door, and Alice will be there until around
9:15AM.
Rather than calling Alice at home, you can just drop a note in her mailbox with your request,
or simply wait until the next Wednesday to get your tickets. Alice pays her monthly cell phone
bill calculated on the number of calls in a month, so the more calls over her monthly cell phone
minutes, the more it will cost her. Understandingly, she prefers to save her "minutes" for
either personal or emergency telephone conversations. Thank you for your understanding and
consideration.

all of the events! After the parade there will be a "Happy Hour", with beer and wine provided
along with chips and dip. After that a traditional Irish meal will be served, corned beef, cabbage,
potatoes, carrots, and dessert. It is preferred, that you bring your own plates and tableware, and
also, you can bring your own drinks. Dancing will follow the meal, with entertainment by Rich
Kelley. The tickets will be $15 per person.
This is just the beginning of another great year of entertainment, and I am fortunate to have
a wonderful crew helping me! Thanks to all of you ladies, and of course, our President, Dave
Doran with your ideas, and assistance on this venture! Also I would like to add, we are in need
of someone to jump in, and take over the decorating of the Clubhouse for the months ahead.
Remember, the Entertainment Committee is always around to help! We will do our best to have
functions that are in a low price range, along with some freebies, and our usual special nights!
Thank you to all, for your support!

Founded in 1916.
Caring Ever Since.
From our family to your family
Morton Plant Hospital got its start in 1914 when several local
women asked railroad magnate Morton F. Plant to fund a
hospital. He agreed, if the community would also make a
substantial contribution. They took the challenge and the
hospital opened in 1916. Throughout the years, the hospital
served the community, and the community gave back,
ensuring that generations of families would be able to
count on the compassionate, quality care provided by
Morton Plant Hospital.
One of the most noteworthy hospitals in the nation,
Morton Plant Hospital was founded because a community
cared. And 100 years later, one thing remains the same —
our commitment to caring for your family.
The new Doyle Tower at Morton
Plant Hospital, scheduled to be
completed in 2016. Another example
of how the community gave back.

Betty's Household Hints
A
t the Soupathon held at Phase 2 on February 6th, 22 cooks shared their home-made
soups to all the other cooks, as well as the official tasters, and then the clubhouse
was filled with hungry diners. All the participants brought their soup creations in
a crockpot, or as some of us call them -- slow cookers. Most of these cookers have heavy
stoneware (ceramic) bowls that fit onto (or into) an electric base used for cooking/heating/and
keeping food warm. If you have ever washed one of the heavy stoneware bowls, you probably
noticed they are quite heavy and unwieldy, and difficult to handle. One of the Soupathon
participants mentioned she always uses slow-cooker liners to eliminate washing the stoneware
inner bowl by hand. She said using the liners saves her clean-up time and effort, since all
she does is (after the bowl is emptied) discard the liner. This is a hint that bears sharing with
others! Thank you, Barbara Bergling.
Mind Games
Bob Lawson Show
W
hat a great show! Amazing, surprising, and astounding, and lots of "How does he
do that?" comments were heard on Saturday night, January 23, when the "Mind
Games" show performed. In addition to the "mind-reading" segments of the show,
Bob also displayed a great comedic sense and kept us laughing throughout the evening. Some
of his feats were unexplainable, which only added to the fun of the night.
Jean and Jerry Richter were our host and hostess for the evening and did an outstanding job
keeping the show running smoothly. They handled the early evening refreshments, the seating
arrangements, as well as the clean-up chores. We are always appreciative of residents who
step up to help organize our entertainment events. The Richters have always been extremely
supportive of our Social Club; Jean handles all the event posters, the ticket printing, and the
two of them head up our Bingo Club. They are both active long-time residents of Briar Creek
and are a fine example of the volunteerism necessary to keep our social club on track.
When Bob Lawson asked the audience for the
name of the person who has a great sense of humor,
many voices called out Jerry's name. In response
to that suggestion, Bob asked the two of them to
participate in a portion of the Mind Games show.
Their portion - to say the least - was very amusing.
Thanks, Jean and Jerry, your assistance was
priceless.

uggestions for future trips are always welcome and your thoughts should be communicated

in the clubhouse, or sign up online www.mybriarcreek.com under Travel.
Western Night
W
estern Night was its usual food, fun and frivolity. Most people dressed in western
garb, although I spotted a few Native Americans around the clubhouse. Many
attendees sported 10-gallon hats, prairie vest, and interesting cowboy boots. Jail
was used to keep the "outlaws" in check. Sheriff Joe Guazzerotti had his trusty six-shooter at
his side; and after a few lawbreakers were put in the hoosegow, things settled down.
Ribs, and all the usual side dishes, rounded out the menu, and with a few card games,
with appropriate background music, the clinking of coins (and glasses), the evening was well
spent. Judy Young did a great job, along with help from her sidekicks. Thanks, Judy, this was
a wonderful affair and an event you should continue year after year!

remarkable. With 43 points each, the winners were: Dan Smith, Sue Farrell, and Linda
Hayes. Everett Wardell had 42 points.

last about 45 minutes. Chair Yoga is held immediately after the Cardio class. If you
belong to the SilverSneakers® organization, there is no charge for either class. If not,
don't despair; for only $3 a session, you can join the Cardio class; if you wish to take both the
cardio and chair yoga on the same day, the total cost is $5. Classes are open to both Phase 1
and Phase 2. Wear a tee-shirt and shorts, all necessary equipment is provided (if you have
2 or 3 lb. weights, please bring those for your personal use). Classes are
geared toward cardio and flexibility improvement. None of the exercises
are difficult, and with enthusiastic people and invigorating music, both
sessions seem to fly by. Contact Joan Bienvenue at 724-8561 if you

the charge for each class is only $3.00.

courage.
• There are different reports about the true "birth flower." Some say it's the daffodil and
others say it's violet.
• Zodiac signs: Pisces and Aries
• It is the first month of Spring which begins between March 19-21.
• It is the time of year when animals start to wake up from hibernation.
• The word March does not have to do from the homonym, which means to walk deliberately.
Instead, the name of the month dates back the Roman calendar. March was named for
Mars, the Roman god of war.
• An old proverb says, “March comes in a like a lion, and goes out like a lamb,” which is
reference to winter ending and spring beginning. Another popular saying is "March is mad
as a hare," which is a reference to the animals fighting each other.
• March is Women’s History Month.
• March is American Red Cross Month.
• Fire Prevention Month.
• Those people born in the beginning and middle of March are Pisces. Those born from
March 21 on are Aries. Pisces are ruled by Neptune, which makes them dreamy, creative
and intuitive. Aries are ruled by Mars, which makes them energetic, daring and spontaneous.
Thought for the Month
"Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone; for the sad old earth must
borrow its mirth, but has trouble enough of its own." Ella Wheeler Wilcox

his month there are numerous planned activities for all residents of Briar Creek. New
members are encouraged to join in.
Scavenger Hunt – Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m. following coffee and conversation. There
will be a musical theme, you can walk, ride your bike or drive your golf cart for this fun event.
Teams can be from 1 to 4 people. You will be given clues and will have to find the answers in
the front yard of specific residences. Plan to meet at 10 a.m. in front of the clubhouse. Please
sign up on the sheet attached to the poster in the clubhouse. For those who aren’t planning to
participate, but may have a golf cart that someone can borrow, please let us know.
Phase II Social Club Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon – Saturday, March 12 at 11:30
a.m. following the scavenger hunt. The menu will consist of sub sandwiches, potato salad,
chips, a drink and dessert. All are invited to this event. During the year most residents volunteer
in some capacity and this is our way of thanking you for all the help you provide to make our
community run as smoothly as it does. If you are already a 2016 social club member, your
luncheon ticket is free. If you are not a member, you may purchase a ticket for $3.00. You
must get a luncheon ticket in advance so we will know how many residents will be attending
this event. No tickets will be available at the door.
Horse Racing Party – Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. there will be a hot dog supper with chips
and a drink for $3.00. Following dinner at 6:30, the horse racing will begin. You may come
to the horse racing for free if you decide not to attend the supper. Bring your quarters to make
bets, all monies will be returned as pay-out for the separate races. This is a fun evening and a
wonderful way to spend time with each other.
April Fools’ Rock and Roll Dance – Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Come dance the evening
away at this free party. Bring a snack to share and your own beverage of choice. We will have
music from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

ell, we had a good turn out with approx.33 socializing girls who can really whip up
some good tasting pies. My error on the pie estimate, as there were enough slices to
take home and further enjoy at home. Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Our guest speaker Fire Fighter Paramedic, Joshua, talked on the topic of what to have
prior to their arrival at our homes.
To help them deliver their care, list your meds, allergies, a little hx on yourself, who
to notify, DNR status if it applies with paper work handy for your benefit. Joshua states the
fire fighters are there for us not just for fires but for example falls etc. Many questions were
answered with much needed information. Thank you again Joshua.
Our next get together will be March1st at 1PM at phase 2 club house for phase 1&2 and
their guests. Bon Worth will return with our models Geri Wardell, Jane Galvin, Brenda Greene,
Yaeko Parish, Nancy Blanchard, and Sharon Cann will be strutting their apparel. Cake will be
offered and a good time will be enjoyed by all that can attend. Sign up please and remember to
bring a $1.00 for 50/50 if you play.

njoy a fun golf outing with friends! We plan to golf 18 holes at Countryway Golf Course
during the afternoon, and then eat dinner together. Get the date (recently changed)
on your calendar now, and watch for the sign-up sheet in your clubhouse. Sign up
individually, as a twosome, or make your own foursome--it will be casual and fun.

The Pill Bottle Ministry
Stella Tavenor
T
hank you so much for supporting the pill bottle ministry; a special thank you to Carol
Smitley for filling in for me while I was away. Keep up the good work.
Holy Trinity, Episcopal Church, across the street, collects these bottles and sends them
to M25M -Matthew 25 Ministries – a Christian charity, in Blue Ash, Ohio. They send the
bottles along with other medical supplies to needed locations in the USA and overseas, where
sanitary dispensing of medications is difficult.
For information on Matthew 25 Ministries, go to their web site at www.m25m.org.
How to remove your label from the pill bottle
1. Remove cap from prescription bottle and fill bottle with hot water.
2. Replace cap on bottle filled with hot water and allow bottle to sit for two minutes.
3. Peel Label off Bottle. ...
4. Pour water out of bottle and allow to dry.
5. Use baby oil (any oil for that matter) on a paper towel to remove any residue glue
If you still have trouble you could go to https://zapstrips.com/ and give that a try. I have not
tried it so I cannot make any recommendations.
