We Have A Pope (Habemus Papam)
Wed 22 Feb 8pm
PG | 104mins | Italian | Nanni Moretti
Michel Piccoli plays a newly elected Pope with big issues. About to address the faithful
in St Peter’s Square for the first time, he suffers a panic attack. Treatment ensues with
a psychiatrist (a marvellously mock-serious turn by Moretti), spurring him to wander the
streets of Rome. A genuinely funny yet touching portrait of self-discovery.

Sun 4 Mar 5pm | 8pm
12A | 86mins | Spanish | Pablo Giorgelli
A disaffected truck driver rediscovers his sense of humanity as he reluctantly drives a woman
and her irresistibly endearing baby daughter from Paraguay to Buenos Aires. This understated
sun-dappled romance provides a master class in naturalistic acting and was winner of the Camera
d’Or for best first feature at Cannes.
My Week With Marilyn
Tue 6 Mar 11am | 2pm | 8pm
15 | 98mins | Simon Curtis
Based on the memoir by Colin Clark, assistant director on The Prince And The Showgirl, this
fluffily entertaining film revives Monroe’s unique allure, with a spellbinding performance by Michelle
Williams, and a story with the double-edged strength to jerk tears and split sides. Also with
Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Emma Watson and Derek Jacobi.

Rapace). Expect a deadly global game of cat and mouse.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Sun 18 Mar 8pm
PG | 100mins | Michel Hazanavicius
As silent movie star George Valentin wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will signal his
demise, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break. This effervescent
valentine to silent Hollywood is an out-and-out joy and ideal Mother’s Day fare. Featuring Uggy,
deserved winner of the Palm Dog at Cannes!
The Well-Digger’s Daughter (La fille du puisatier)
PG | 109mins | French | Daniel Auteuil
Tue 20 Mar 11am | 2pm | 8pm
Daniel Auteuil’s directorial debut is a remake of Marcel Pagnol’s eponymous 1940 film,
in which a father in pre-WWII Provence is torn between his sense of honour and his
deep love for his saintly daughter when she gets into trouble with the wealthy son of a
shopkeeper. A beautiful story of love, tenderness, sorrow and forgiveness.
Shame
Wed 21 Mar 8pm
18 | 100mins | Steve McQueen
A dynamite Michael Fassbender stars as Brandon, a New York office worker with a compulsive
sex addiction, whose soulless routine, involving an endless cycle of prostitutes, random pick-ups
and online pornography, is disrupted by a rare visit from his troubled lounge singer sister Sissy
(Carey Mulligan). A visually stunning, emotionally visceral, unforgettable film.
Haywire
Sun 25 Mar 8pm
TBC | TBC | Steven Soderbergh
A black-ops uber-soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.
Haywire is a brash, gutsy extravaganza that introduces us not only to a new star in Gina Carano,
but also to a way of making an action movie where brains and brawn can actually coexist. Stylish,
supercharged and smart.
The Iron Lady
Tue 27 Mar 11am | 2pm | 8pm
12A | 104mins | Phyllida Lloyd
Take a breezy, whistle-stop tour through the unstable nitroglycerin of Thatcher’s life and
times, as she reminisces following the death of her husband Denis (Jim Broadbent).
Well worth seeing, whatever your politics, purely for Meryl Streep’s astonishing, all but
flawless performance; a masterpiece of mimicry which re-imagines the Iron Lady in all
her half-forgotten glory.
J. Edgar
Wed 28 Mar 8pm
TBC | 137mins | Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood-directed biopic following the career of controversial detective J. Edgar Hoover
(impeccably played by Leonardo DiCaprio), the first director of the FBI. In his later years many felt
he abused his power, using illegal methods to gain evidence and gathering secret files on political
figures during his long and notorious career.

Andrea Riseborough, as a sympathetic and vulnerable - rather than opportunistic - Wallis Simpson,

the story of a glamorous outsider whose romantic yearnings made her one of the most notorious
women in the world.

Carnage
Wed 4 Apr 8pm
15 | 79mins | Roman Polanski
Following a scuffle their children have had at school, two New York couples meet to discuss
things ‘in a civilised manner’. This comedy of manners veers heavily towards the comic, so things
hardly go as planned and all too soon parental dignity takes a nose dive into a pitch-black farce of
unbearable tension. With Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet.

CINEMA
Converting our Cinema to digital, including our new state of the art sound system, has cost Trinity
over £70,000. Whilst we have had a generous grant from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council we
still need to find about 70% of that ourselves. To help us we are asking that you make a modest
50p contribution to digitalisation in your ticket price. We hope that you will find this well worth
the improvement in your cinema experience at Trinity, and even with this we are still the cheapest
cinema in Tunbridge Wells!
DIGITAL
Documenting uptown fixtures (Anna Wintour, Tom Wolfe et al), downtown eccentrics and everyone
in between, octogenarian photojournalist Cunningham’s enormous body of work is more reliable
than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual flair. A delicate, funny and often
poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming
grace.

Young Aesop lives on the edge of a big forest that is home to an

in other fables too. This “near soap-opera” approach makes the
animals’ characters more rounded, allowing a young audience a
clearer appreciation of the human frailties depicted.

Failing To Notice
Frances Bloomfield’s work explores the narratives of dreams and the
‘improbable’ scenarios that we unconsciously construct. The models/
sets juxtapose a variety of elements, most of which are recycled,
rediscovered or refashioned. Like a dream they raise questions about what
we fail to notice around us. On show will be a collection of art boxes and
photographic prints.

Ruth Anderson is both artist and curator of her photographic images.

carefully coaxed into being through layers of captured reflection and exposes
the viewer to a host of reflections within the spectacle of the high street.
Jo Louca
Tue 20 Mar - Sat 7 Apr
In The Light Of Day
Through her contemplative approach, Surrey based artist Jo Louca portrays
the essence of the land in translucent layers of traditional oil glazed paint. She
concentrates on the elemental power of light, atmosphere and mood rather
than a figurative representation of it. The initial inspiration for paintings comes
simply from gazing up at a light-filled canopy, the magical effect like a stained
glass cathedral canopy of trees.
