Compuware Hiperstation for VTAM is a mainframe application test management and quality assurance solution. With
Hiperstation for VTAM, system and application programmers and quality assurance personnel can streamline testing for any
green screen application, including those running in CICS, IMS/DC, IDMS/DC and TSO.

Extended testing capabilities
Hiperstation for VTAM enhances unit, concurrency, integration,
migration, capacity and performance testing. With its advanced
record, review, replay and reporting functions, you can:

record user transactions, using a global recording facility that lets
you capture green screen terminal activity

review all recorded activity in a formatted viewer with Session
Demo
•
replay previously recorded sessions in slow motion, full-speed
interactive mode or unattended mode
•
report on the differences between replay results and the results of
the baseline recording.
Test management
Hiperstation for VTAM gives your staff full control over the creation,
maintenance and execution of your application tests using the
Automated Testing Vehicle (ATV) Manager function. Create full
regression or performance vehicles for each application. Store related
test assets such as user IDs, regions, load modules, datasets, JCL
and REXX EXECs within each vehicle definition, thereby removing
the burdensome task of tracking assets manually. Create test cases
to meet specific business requirements so you know the critical
functions of your application are being tested. Set up appropriate
pass/fail conditions along with a list of email recipients who should
receive the test results, making it easier for support personnel to
respond to test failures even after hours.
Running your tests is made simple by submitting each vehicle for the
application you want to test. Reviewing results has never been easier
since they are centrally stored within the ATV Manager environment.
New remediation features provide your staff with a simplified way of
updating tests affected by application changes.
Repeatable testing
Hiperstation for VTAM provides functions that help your staff create
scripted tests to exercise the application program logic that is critical
to the operation of your business. The nature of these test scripts
makes them repeatable and, through the interactive and unattended
mode replay functions, makes them fully automatable, allowing you to
perform more test iterations in less time.
Testing flexibility
To significantly expand its interactive and unattended mode script
replay capabilities, Hiperstation for VTAM uses IBM REXX as a smart
scripting language. REXX lets you use variable data substitution,
perform conditional processing and populate databases. In addition,
script processors automate the process of making changes to
recorded test scripts.

The Hiperstation for VTAM ATV Manager now provides direct
integration with Compuware Strobe. Now your staff can utilize
the power of Strobe for performance analysis in addition to the
capabilities of the ATV Manager for building repeatable and
automated tests. Performance vehicles provide the capability of
setting appropriate performance threshold settings to determine
PASS/FAIL for a particular test, ensuring that the application meets
specific performance criteria. Test results can be emailed to
pre-defined recipients to ensure appropriate actions are taken
in the event of a test failure.
Hiperstation for VTAM maps test plans to business requirements to
prioritize testing of critical functions. It tracks changing requirements
and publishes them for the entire team. Hiperstation for VTAM
automatically routes test results, tasks and defect status information
between and across development and testing teams. Hiperstation for
VTAM manages the entire testing process — from design to test script
execution to test results analysis.
Application Auditing and Help Desk
Additionally, Hiperstation for VTAM provides Application Auditing and
Help Desk functionality. It records green screen application activity
and saves it in a repository. Having access to this information provides
auditors with the ability to review the activity report to identify
unauthorized usage. Hiperstation for VTAM also allows the Help Desk
to identify and resolve user errors by providing the exact sequence
of events leading up to the error. In the event the error resulted in an
application failure, this information also assists production support
personnel in understanding why the error occurred and enables them
to re-create the production problem.
