You are welcomed this evening by our VIP meet and greet at the immigration entry point, escorted to baggage claim, and accompanied through customs into the arrivals hall. Here our Tanzania representative will be holding a sign with your name on it, waiting to transfer you to your lodge accommodations, where you will spend the night under the star-studded African skies. ACCOMMODATIONS: ARUSHA COFFEE LODGE – plantation room Arusha Coffee Lodge is hidden among one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations and beautifully positioned below the rugged peak of Mount Meru. The theme of coffee is never far away at Arusha Coffee Lodge as evidenced by the beautifully designed plantation suites and rooms, all adorned with comfortable furnishings. Each room features ensuite bathroom including a triple-headed shower, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, electronic safe, mini-bar, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities. Arrive into your lodge for lunch. Afterwards, a highlight awaits you as you depart to explore what is commonly referred to as the World’s largest natural wildlife zoo. After breakfast, you descend through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. Vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and their predators roam the crater. Look for the rare black rhino grazing in and near the lakes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight. Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before climbing back up to the lodge in time for relaxation before dinner. Arrive at your camp in time for lunch and an afternoon of game viewing. Stretching to the horizon and occasionally broken by mountains, this is an area of blue and purple landscapes, dry and barren, but with a beauty all its own. The permanent Ewaso Nyiro River supports a wide variety of wildlife with some species that are unique to this area like the Grevy’s zebra, the Somali blue necked ostrich, the striking reticulated giraffe and the dainty gerenuk. This is the home of the pastoral Samburu, a proud nomadic people. 6 ©African Travel Inc. - www.africantravelinc.com ACCOMMODATIONS: LARSEN'S CAMP All tents at Larsen’s are discreetly sited along the west bank of the Uaso Nyiro River with the result that the tents are bathed with light at sunrise. Each tent stands on a plinth of natural stone. The tents are designed in a chic safari style. Each tent features en suite private bathrooms stocked with a range of Molton Brown toiletries, flushing toilets, constant hot water and 24 hour electricity (240 volts). Dining is done in a variety of camp locations depending on the day. Breakfast, lunch or dinner may be served on the river bank, under a canopy of fig trees, on the river front deck, by the camp fire, on the tree deck overlooking a watering hole or in the untamed wilderness. The Samburu tribe are a Nilotic tribe that inhabits Kenya's northern plains. They are a Maa-speaking group, and are very similar to the Maasai tribe. Like the Maasai, the Samburu are nomadic pastoralists, moving from one place to another following patterns of rainfall in search of fresh pasture and water for their cattle, camels, goats and sheep. The Samburus are considered even more traditional and remote than their Maasai kin, and have maintained the authenticity of their culture by sticking to their ancient traditions and defying modern trends. Other neighbors of the Samburu tribe include the pastoral Turkana, Rendille and Borana tribes. ACCOMMODATIONS: LARSEN'S CAMP (B,L,D) JUN 24 SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE / NAIROBI / AMSTERDAM This morning your East African safari comes to an end as you fly back to Nairobi. On arrival you will be met and taken for lunch at the Karen Blixen Gardens restaurant, offering a variety of entrees from steak to hamburgers to pizza. The outdoor garden is spacious for those who enjoy watching birds and butterflies while dining or relaxed dining by the fish pond with waterfall. The restaurant veranda is also a popular place to spend a relaxing lunch and afternoon. After lunch enroute to your dayroom accommodation a visit will be made to the fascinating Kazuri Bead Factory located just outside of Nairobi, founded, Lady Susan Wood and two other women over 25 years ago. Visa Requirements Visas are required for U.S. citizens visiting Tanzania and can be obtained prior to US departure from the Tanzania Embassy in Washington D.C. OR visas can also obtained upon arrival at first port of entry into Tanzania. Currently visa fees are $100.00 for single or multiple entry, payable in US Dollars and subject to change without notice. For NON-U.S. Citizens, please check directly with appropriate consulate for visa requirements. Yellow Fever Certificate A Yellow fever inoculation could be required for entry into Tanzania if arriving from an infected area. You could be required to produce a valid yellow fever certificate upon arrival in any entry point in Tanzania. The vaccination needs to be administered at least 10 days before travel to Tanzania. Luggage Requirements Luggage restrictions for this safari are 33 pounds per person (including photographic equipment). Please pack in soft sided bags. This restriction is rigidly enforced for your safety, and due to space limitations. Hard sided and/or overweight luggage cannot be accepted.
