he following numbered polished bronze and silver sculptures are
exact enlargements from actual exotic insect specimens. These are
signed by the artist George Foster who has cast them in his fine art
foundry using the “lost wax” process.
Numbers correspond to catalogue photographs. Measurements are to
the nearest 1/2 inch or centimeter. The bronzes are, unless otherwise
requested, surface treated with a thin protective coating to prevent
tarnishing and to preserve the original look of freshly polished metal.
This intact collection is intended for acquisition by a museum, university,
or a company which might enjoy the prestige of showcasing a unique
bridge between the natural sciences and fine art traditions.

George Foster has a science degree in chemistry but soon after graduating
built a small foundry near Toronto specifically to cast bronze for sculptors.
After a move to rural Quebec, he studied art and art history. Now in a larger
workshop he enjoys creating his sculptures by welding and casting various
metals. Works such as these presented here can be found in government,
university, and private collections throughout the world.
George Foster is a longtime member of the
Sculptors Society of Canada and has done
considerable research into fine art bronze
casting and moulding techniques.
Like the insect bronzes, most of his recent
work has offered a window into some aspect
of our wild natural world.

About the Artist
