Alabama: William Hooper Councill - Thursday, February 11, 5:30 to 8:30 pm, Elks Lodge 1648,
725 Franklin Street, Huntsville AL. Eddie E. Davis will speak on the life of William Hooper Councill during
the monthly meeting of the Tennessee Valley Civil War Round Table. Born into slavery, Councill became the
first president of the college today known as Alabama A&M University. FREE admission. Meeting starts at

Georgia: Civil War in the Western Theater Colloquium: “Losing the Heartland…The Failure
of Confederate Theater Command in the West” - Saturday, February 6, 9:00 to 11:45 am, Lecture Hall,

the failings of the Confederate military leadership in the Western theater from the earliest stages of the war

South Carolina: 22nd Annual Battle of Aiken Reenactment - Friday through Sunday, February
19 through 21, 1210 Powell Pond Road, Aiken SC. See history come alive with cannon, cavalry and living
history experts. For three days, reenactors eat, sleep, live and fight in a painfully recreated version of the world
in 1865. This War Between the States event has grown from a few hundred men with muskets to a full-blown
Civil War festival. In addition to battle reenactments, there are authentic 19th-century military encampments,
living history presentations, reproductions of medical facilities, an engineer and signal service, musicians, and
civilian portrayals. Food is available for purchase. Friday: free admission for school groups with reservations
although a donation of canned goods is encouraged; Saturday & Sunday: open to the general public 9:00 am to
5:00 pm. Directions: I-20 to Exit #18, SC Hwy. 19. Turn south toward Aiken. Turn left onto Powell Pond Road
