Report of the Supervisory Board

Over the course of the reporting period, six
meetings were held where the Managing Board
presented the Supervisory Board with information
on the company’s performance, important projects
and on future company development.
Changes in the Supervisory Board
At our Supervisory Board meeting of 7 December 2000, Dr. Josef Staribacher, Dkfm. Dr. Walter
Wolfsberger and Dipl.-Ing. Othmar Pühringer all
requested not to be re-elected to the Siemens AG
Austria Supervisory Board. At the Annual General
Meeting which followed, Dr. Erich Becker,
Dr. Christian Konrad and Dr. Siegfried Sellitsch
were duly elected to the Supervisory Board of
Siemens AG Austria. At the ensuing constitutional
meeting Dr. Josef Staribacher and Dkfm. Dr. Walter
Wolfsberger were duly elected as honorary
presidents and Prof. Dr. Rudolf Streicher as vice
chairman of Siemens AG Austria.
As a result of Siemens AG Berlin & Munich taking over ÖIAG’s equity stake in Siemens AG Austria
(see page 4), Dr. Johannes Ditz resigned from his
position on the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG
Austria.
Changes in the Managing Board
Significant changes in the Managing Board
were also resolved by the Supervisory Board in the
reporting period:
Following the decision at the Annual General
Meeting for fiscal 1999/2000 of 7 December 2000
that Dr. Peter Flicker retire from his position on
the Managing Board having reached the end
of his contract period, at the Supervisory Board
meeting held on the same day Mag. Brigitte
Ederer (with effect from 1 January 2001) and
Ing. Franz Geiger (with immediate effect) were
duly elected to the Managing Board of
Siemens AG Austria.
Furthermore, at our Supervisory Board meeting
of 12 September 2001, Mag. Peter Schönhofer was,
with effect from 16 October 2001, appointed to
the position of commercial director as successor to
Mr. Ötsch, who, as of 1 November 2001, took over
commercial management of the A&D division of
Siemens AG Germany and therefore resigned from
his position on the Managing Board of Siemens AG
Austria as of 31 October 2001. At the same time,
with effect from 1 October 2001, Dipl.-Ing. Konrad
Pernstich was elected as a member of the Managing Board in order to head up our regional operations, which had previously been managed by
Dipl.-Ing. Eduard Uhl. Dipl.-Ing. Eduard Uhl left
his position on the Siemens AG Managing Board as
of 27 November 2001.
Changes in Group Structure
Siemens AG Austria transferred its responsibility for CCN, the Competence Center Information
Technology and Networking, to Siemens Business
Services GmbH & Co (SBS).
In order to further consolidate and strengthen
SBS’s IT solutions business, at the Supervisory
Board meeting of 7 December 2000 it was resolved
that business in IT maintenance & service (formerly ICP/ITS) be integrated into SBS. This resulted in
546 employees and annual turnover of EUR 101.3
million (fiscal 2000/2001) being carved out of
Siemens AG Austria.
Carve-out of Automotive Activities
Acquisition of VF-TEL in Yugoslavia/Belgrade
As part of the amalgamation of business activities of Mannesmann VDO AG with the Siemens
automotive engineering (AT) division, this division
of Siemens AG Berlin and Munich was relocated to
Siemens Automotive AG with headquarters in
Regensburg. In connection with this, Siemens AG
Austria’s automotive activities, which had been
located at the Vienna Electronics Plant (EWW),
were transferred to the newly-founded company
Siemens Automotive GmbH in Vienna. Thus a
further business volume of EUR 20 million and 49
employees were carved out of Siemens AG Austria.
Additionally, Siemens AG Austria’s regional
responsibility for Yugoslavia was extended to
Information and Communication Networks (ICN)
as well, by means of our approval of the respective
divisional organisation in Belgrade being merged
into Siemens AG Austria as of 1 October 2001. As a
result of these decisions and the above-mentioned
election of Mr. Pernstich to the Siemens AG Austria
Managing Board, a basis has been laid to further
strengthen our responsibilities in this region.
Subsidiary in Romania
The resolution to integrate Landis & Staefa
activities into Siemens Building Technologies
GmbH as of 1 October 2001 will lead to an
enhancement of building technology activities in
Austria as a result of consolidated resources guaranteeing a single interface in the marketplace.
Thus the Supervisory Board took positive note of
the report on this merger given on 12 September
2001.
Our Program and System Engineering (PSE)
division’s tried-and-tested concept of acquiring
necessary development resources predominantly
from central and southern European countries is
continuing with the establishment of a new facility
in Brasov, Romania. At its meeting of 12 February
2001, the Supervisory Board resolved that a PSE
company be set up in Romania, which plans to
employ around 100 staff by 2003. On winning the
bid for the construction and renovation of the
Coltea Clinic in Bucharest, together with VAMED
and the AST construction company, approval
was granted for setting up a project company in
Romania for this contract. Furthermore, we took a
positive note of the fact that Siemens Business
Services acquired Sintec (SINTEC s.r.l. and
CENTRUL DE STUDII SINTEC s.r.l.), an IT solutions
company in Baia Mare, in order to work on the
contract which was won for the employment office,
and to win new contracts in the fields of health
insurance and from the ministry of health in
Romania.
Integration of Landis & Staefa
Consolidation of all Transportation
Systems Activities
In order to further strengthen Siemens SGP
Verkehrstechnik GmbH’s (SGP) area of competence, the Supervisory Board also supported the
concept presented whereby SGP shall merge its
worldwide competence for metro vehicles as well
as its regional sales of all rolling stock with its
existing manufacturing facilities in Vienna and
Graz with effect from 1 October 2001. On the one
hand, this measure will lead to Siemens AG Austria
losing business volume amounting to approx.
EUR 220 million and 80 employees, but on the
Report of the Supervisory Board
Report of the Supervisory Board
5
other hand a transportation systems company
with an international business volume of around
EUR 800 million is being created in Austria. This
will safeguard Austria as a location for manufacturing and will add more competence.
With effect from 29 July 2001, Siemens AG
Austria exercised its contractually agreed option to
take over a 26 % equity stake in Siemens SGP
Verkehrstechnik GmbH from ÖIAG. Thus Siemens
SGP Verkehrstechnik is now wholly owned by
Siemens AG Austria.
Transfer of ÖIAG Equity Stake in
Siemens AG Austria to Siemens AG
to a sum of ATS 135.9 million (Euro 9.88 million),
which was paid out in special recognition from the
company to our employees.
The Supervisory Board would like to thank all
employees for their performance and all employee
representatives for their constructive cooperation.
After final completion of our audit, we have no
objections to raise. Hence the financial statements
as of 30 September 2001 have been approved in
accordance with § 125 para. 2 of Austrian Corporation Law; the Supervisory Board endorses the proposal of the Managing Board with regard to the
distribution of net earnings.

In the year 2001 the economic situation worsened in
Austria, as in the rest of Europe. Although the unemployment rate, at 3.8 % (3.7 % in 2000), remains relatively low
by international comparison, real GDP growth has slowed
faster than had previously been forecast. According to
forecasts by WIFO, the Austrian economic research institute, and IHS, the Institute for Advanced Studies, real GDP
has gone up by only 1.3 %, or 1.4 % respectively, on last
year, and a revision of these forecasts to around 1 % can
be expected. In the year 2000, Austria’s economy had
grown by 3 %. In addition to a fall in international
demand, other domestic factors, such as the crisis in the
construction industry, have had a stifling effect on
growth. Having reached an historical low of 0.6 % in 1999,
the inflation rate has risen to between 2.7 and 2.8 % in
the year 2001 (2.3 % in 2000). In spite of a sharp fall in oil
prices, this is mainly attributable to increases in university
fees and in food prices.
For the year 2002, economic analysts are forecasting
a slight economic recovery to around 1.7 % (IHS) or 1.9 %
(WIFO), with revised figures of 1 to 1.5 % expected. Triggers for this recovery are said to be positive spurs from
the USA and the stabilising influence of EU-wide interest
rate and fiscal policies. Private consumption will also
rally in the year 2002 and is expected to rise from 1.5 %
(in 2001) to 1.9 %. The rate of inflation should be considerably lower than its 1.9 % forecast, since this did not
take the decrease in oil prices into account. Sentiments in
the employment market are pessimistic for 2002. After
the rise in unemployment in 2001 due to below-average
economic growth, economic analysts expect jobless
figures to be higher again in the year 2002.
Business Performance at Siemens AG Austria
New orders totalled EUR 2.177 billion in the year
under review. Due to extraordinarily high orders in our
transportation systems division in fiscal 1999/2000
(Taurus contract) and equity carve-outs (CCN, ITS) from
Siemens AG Austria, this year’s figure for new orders is
down 26.3 % on last year’s results. Total sales amounted
to EUR 2.362 billion and thus were 3.9 % higher than last
year. New orders were slightly below target, whereas
sales met our forecasts. Siemens export sales, at EUR
1.008 billion, were up 19.1 % on comparable figures of
the previous year.
In the 2000/2001 financial year, our Information and
Communication Networks (ICN) division continued with
its positive performance and business was slightly above
target. Both domestic and export business contributed to
this growth.
In its company networks business, ICN managed to
further consolidate its rank as market leader by re-positioning. ICN supplies communications infrastructure as
well as the necessary customer solutions and is putting
its resources into voice-over-IP (internet protocol), i.e.
the merging of voice and data networks. Another focal
point is taking on the complete range of communication
outsourcing services. A project worthy of mention here is
a major contract for OMV, who have outsourced all of
their communications to Siemens. ICN is setting up and
operating their complete corporate network with fixedline, mobile and data communication at all national and
international OMV facilities. Other key contracts were
awarded in various different business sectors. EVN was
supplied with the world’s largest cordless multicell integration system and a networked call centre. Orders for
network management and network components were
executed for Erste Bank and the Austrian Central Bank
(Österreichische Nationalbank).
Business in carrier networks is suffering from weaker
market demand in this sector. Last year’s euphoria
among OLOs (other licensed operators) has subsided and
only a few alternative carriers remain active. Telekom
Austria AG has also reduced its budgets, particularly in
the area of networks. ICN’s reaction to these developments has been to introduce a strategy of repositioning
its business activities.
As mentioned above, export sales also made a considerable contribution to ICN’s positive performance. In particular we would like to mention the extension of Tele-
com Egypt’s telecommunications network alongside contracts from Maltacom for EWSD and access technology.
ringo Kommunikationsdienstleistungs GmbH & Co
OHG managed to get a foothold in the market as a
customer interaction centre. In future we expect an
increase in demand from telecoms operators, the utilities
companies and also from governmental offices and
authorities.
Our newly-founded Information and Communication
Mobile (ICM) division – which supplies infrastructure,
terminals and solutions for the mobile market – managed to hold its own in the year under review in spite of
the ambivalent market development in the telecoms
sector. The mobile phone market was characterised by
general market saturation and a slip in demand from
carriers. However, ICM was able to boost and secure its
number two position on the Austrian market. This development is broadly attributable to our wide range of products catering for all target groups, from the simplest
device right through to the most sophisticated business
cellphone. In the cordless telephone sector, ICM Devices
manifested itself as market leader. Moreover, the successful launch of SIMPad, which enables cordless surfing
on the web, has opened up a new market. In Croatia and
Slovakia we set up new GSM networks, and ICM is also
pioneering the new GPRS and UMTS network technologies. In total, seven out of ten operators in Slovakia,
Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia/Herzegovina and Yugoslavia use
Siemens technology. Four of these operators are supplied
exclusively by ICM.
ICM is taking charge of TETRA technology on a worldwide basis from its Center of Competence for Tetra technology. “master-talk-Austria Telekom Service GmbH”, the
digital Tetra network operator, will have completed the
construction of its network by the end of 2001. The first
customer will be Vienna’s Local Rail Service Company
(Badner Bahn). The Datatrak system (a positioning and
fleet management system) has been in operation for
several years now in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium,
Malta, Argentina and South Africa and has now also been
set up in Austria.
Siemens Business Services GmbH & Co (SBS) was
faced with difficult market conditions in the year under
review. Due to projects being postponed and a lack of

With services accounting for 85 % of its business,
SBS is Austria’s largest independent supplier of solutions.
The SBS range focuses on enterprise resource management, business information management, customer relationship management, supply chain management, electronic commerce and also product-related services and
outsourcing. Successful key contracts in the year under
review included installing SAP mySAP utilities for Bewag,
reorganising the Federal Administration’s budgeting and
accounting procedures to SAP/R3, and implementing the
first ever SAP Strategic Enterprise Management project
for the Vienna Public Transport Authority (Wiener
Linien). By setting up strategic partnerships, SBS has also
been able to consolidate its position in the Austrian
provinces. Here, mention should be made of the acquisition of “Datamil Informationssysteme GmbH & Co KG”
in Upper Austria and “addIT Dienstleistungen GmbH &
Co KG” in Carinthia. SBS also stepped up activities outside Austria. We set up our own subsidiaries in Romania
and Slovakia. And SBS has won a significant key contract
for a project for the employment office in Romania.
With SBS at the helm, Siemens Austria’s new media
activities were regrouped. Overall, the development in
business cannot be kept separate from the disappointing
performance around the world in the e-business and

e-commerce sectors. Despite this difficult backdrop, our
“CYBERDOC Gesellschaft für digitale Kommunikation im
Notariat GmbH” was still able to hold its own. And also
“Nofrontiere Design AG” and “bit media e-Learning solution GmbH & Co KG” managed to gain a foothold in the
market. In connection with the deregulated energy
market we should mention our equity holding in “smart
technologies Management Beratungs- und Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH”, which provides important IT services
to the energy sector, and our minority stake in “APCS
Power Clearing and Settlement GmbH”, which has been
awarded the licence for the clearing and settlements
office for equalizing energy in “Control Zone East”.
“Together Internet Services GmbH” insurance platform
was set up. Siemens’ stake in “red-stars.com data AG”
was reduced to 3 %.
In the reporting period, new orders and sales at our
Energy (EV/KWU) division were slightly below target. This
was due to an overall decrease in capital expenditure on
classic power generation and power distribution products and also to projects being postponed.
Against the backdrop of deregulated energy markets,
the EV/KWU division was reorganised and new focal
business areas were drawn up – environment-friendly
thermal waste disposal and services for the deregulated
market.
The fact that we completed the Donaustadt gas and
steam power station two weeks before the agreed completion date provides proof of our competence in constructing complex plants and systems. Other significant
projects include the Bratislava waste incineration plant
(with Siemens as general contractor), power station
control equipment for the Iskenderun power station in
Turkey and for the district heating plant in Wels, and
constructing a central control room and upgrading
instrumentation and control systems of auxiliaries at the
Simmering power station.
Winning a contract for a central instrumentation and
control system for Meralco (Philippines) underlines the
expansion of our sales activities with Vienna as Regional
Headquarters for 27 countries in South East Europe and
Asia in the field of network instrumentation and controls
as well as energy management.
Due to contracts awarded over the past few years,
sales at our Transportation division were significantly
above target. The contract awarded by the Austrian
Federal Railways (ÖBB) for 400 Taurus locomotives, of
which the first 50 have now been delivered, and orders
placed by “Wiener Linien” (Vienna Transport Authority)
were key contributors to this performance. The Heavy
Rail division also maintained its positive run with, for
example, contracts from Italy, France and Asia. The financial year also went well for our Infrastructure division.
On the domestic market we executed orders for the construction of electronic signalling systems as well as rail
safety systems. Business also increased in the regions
where Siemens Austria has regional responsibility.
At “Siemens SGP Verkehrstechnik GmbH” new orders
reached an historic high thanks to the “Desiro” contract
from the UK. This important contract means that capacity
at the Vienna plant is secured for the coming year. In its
role as Centre of Competence for bogies, the Graz plant
has become world market leader. Around 2,000 bogies
were manufactured there in the reporting period.
As of 1 October 2001 the Transportation division took
on a new structure. SGP and the regional sales department for rolling stock have been amalgamated and now
make up the core of our parent company’s Heavy Rail
division. Rail Infrastructure is now an operating division
of Siemens AG Austria. This restructuring will give a
boost to our already successful transportation systems
business in Austria.
The Industry sector was also restructured during the
2000/2001 financial year. Siemens Dematic (SD) is a new
division; it is the product of the logistics activities of
Siemens Production and Logistics Systems being merged
with Mannesmann Dematic AG. Our Industrial Projects
and Technical Services (ATD) division was renamed to
Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) at the beginning
of 2001. Overall, results in the Industry sector were
above target in the financial year just ended.
Business performance during 2000/2001 at the
Industrial Solutions & Services (I&S) division was above
original expectations. Our core business was the main
factor influencing this result. Notable contracts were
awarded for example by Voestalpine Stahl Linz and SCA
Laakirchen AG in Upper Austria. Contracts for the construction of a production line for the Chrysler PT Cruiser
and for the construction of a Cable Liner Shuttle at Birmingham International Airport, together with Doppelmayr
Cable Car GmbH, have opened up new markets for I&S.
More competitive advantages are expected to arise from
an expansion in our services business (service and maintenance) as well as from innovative telematics services
and products from our Intelligent Traffic Systems
division.
Targets for our Automation and Drives (A&D) division
were surpassed in the reporting period. The A&D division
managed to consolidate its position as market leader for
automation and drive engineering. We continued to
focus on innovation, with the A&D Mall being installed
this year. 15 % of business is already done on-line.
A&D has stepped up its efforts in the field of process
automation, which is gaining new opportunities thanks
to our PCS7 process controls. Significant contracts were
awarded amongst others by MFA (Andritzer Maschinenfabrik), Borealis in Vienna-Schwechat and for erecting
Infineon’s Micro Design Center.
Business performance at our Siemens Dematic (SD)
division was above target in the year under review. The
division, which was established in June 2001, offers a
range of products from consulting and planning to erecting and commissioning logistics projects and plants/systems. Due to the worldwide trend towards companies
outsourcing logistics activities, the market for logistics
automation is gaining momentum. In this field, SD is, for
example, general contractor for Rail Cargo Austria’s new
logistics centre and has been commissioned to set up a
logistics system for Schachermayer. SD has set up letter
and parcel sorting systems for the Austrian Post Office.
Positive business performance in the Building Technology sector continued in the last financial year. By
integrating “Landis & Staefa (Austria) AG” into Siemens
Building Technologies GmbH & Co OHG (SBT), as of
1 October 2001 Siemens AG Austria’s building technology activities were merged under one roof. This is expected to lead to an additional increase in business activities.
Siemens Building Technologies GmbH & Co OHG (SBT)
continued to grow and topped targets for new orders,
sales and earnings. The Cerebus (security and alarm/
detection technology) segment was a key contributor to
the division’s success, with contracts for bank branch
networks, the Arlberg Tunnel and the Alt Erlaa residential complex. Important orders for energy and installation engineering were placed by the Vöcklabruck Hospital, as well as by hotels and technology and industrial
parks. Siemens Building Technologies ranks among the
market leaders in the field of facility life-cycle management. With the activities of our subsidiaries, “Siemens
Gebäudemanagement & Service GmbH” (SGS) and SITEC
(SBT division), this market is being successfully supplied.
In this field, SITEC was awarded significant contracts for
general contractor projects at the Haus der Musik and
the Intercontinental Hotel Resort at Loipersdorf. In the
areas of facility management and outsourcing, SGS concluded notable contracts with Benetton in Vienna, the
Bank Austria/Creditanstalt group, the Wiener Städtische
insurance company and a group of Viennese schools.
Bacon Gebäudetechnik GmbH & Co KG (Bacon), a
joint venture together with the Ortner company in Vienna,
was also integrated into the Building Technology group.
In spite of restrictions in the public sector budget,
the Medical Solutions (MED) division was able to contin-

ue its positive business performance and consolidate its
market position. Both new orders and sales were considerably above target. The pressure on prices caused by
tight public corporation budgets was offset by our innovative products. Notable key contracts include one from
Chirugie West in Salzburg. The Medical Solutions division was awarded a contract there to equip operating
theatres and to network the entire new building (PACS).
Other contracts for networking came from Innsbruck,
Linz and Amstetten. This division is expanding its competences in new media by way of its e-archiving solution
for hospitals, radiologists and institutes. Taking over and
integrating the Acuson range of products into MED’s
ultrasound distribution and sales activities has resulted
in a two-fold increase in our market share for ultrasound
equipment – especially for cardiological use – to 30 % of
the accessible ultrasound market.
Research and Development
Siemens AG Austria invested EUR 504.4 million in
research & development in fiscal 2000/2001. As in the

past, most of our R&D activities were carried out by the
Program and System Engineering (PSE) division. Thanks
to technological advances in the telecommunications sector and demand in the field of e-business, targets for the
reporting period were met. Close technological support
was provided to the ICN and ICM divisions. In connection
with this, particular mention should be made of software
developments for voice over IP and remote access service.
Alongside its competences in mobile communications –
in GSM, GPRS and UMTS – PSE also stepped up its activities in the field of mobile solutions as a partner of ICM.
Focuses in the area of e-business are Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Information Management. We provided the energy division with
technological support in network instrumentation and
controls and in the launch of the e-utilities market.
PSE lays particular emphasis on building up knowledge management and networking knowledge within the
PSE division. In this context, mention should be made of
share-net projects.
PSE has representative offices in eight countries
around the world. In total, 1,500 engineers work at 17
facilities outside Austria. This enables PSE on the one
hand to meet the growing demand for development, and
on the other hand to raise value added in the regions
where Siemens has regional responsibility.
Regional Responsibility for Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia,
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Yugoslavia
Our “regional” companies, i.e. those companies
where Siemens AG Austria has regional responsibility,
once again continued to grow in the 2000/2001 financial
year. In total, new orders amounted to EUR 440.7 million
and sales reached EUR 478.6 million. The number of
employees within our regional responsibility amounted
to 1,402 as of 30 September 2001.
Siemens s.r.o. in Bratislava can look back on a
successful business year in 2000/2001. In Slovakia, sales
amounting to EUR 92.1 million were generated by 268
employees. ICN and ICM ranked among the most profitable areas of business, with contracts from Slovak Telecom and EuroTel. MED and A&D also contributed to the
positive business performance. MED supplied magnetic
resonance tomographs and cardiodiagnostic equipment
and A&D provided automation systems to the US Steel
steelworks in Kosice, to the cement factory at Tuna and
SCP Neusiedler in Ruzomberok. A three-year contract was
awarded by ZSR (Slovakian Federal Railways) for upgrading rail infrastructure.
Business performance at Siemens in Slovenia was
above target. With approximately the same number of
employees, Siemens d.o.o. achieved sales of EUR 121.4
million. ICM was a key contributor to this result. In the
mobile phone sector, Siemens is market leader with a
share of 27 %, followed by Ericsson with 24 % and Nokia
with 19 %. Furthermore, the I&S, A&D, EV/KWU and MED
divisions contributed a great deal to this success. MED
had its most successful year to date with contracts from
hospitals in Maribor, Sempeter, Golnik and Izola and the
clinical centre in Ljubljana. Other key contracts were
awarded in the EV/KWU division from Elektro Krsko, for
the heaviest transformer to date in Slovenia, as well as
for upgrading secondary equipment at the Bericevo
transformer station.
Business in Croatia also continued its upward trend.
Sales went up to EUR 201.9 million. The mobile phone
sector was particularly successful with a two-fold
increase in sales. Siemens’ market share of the mobile
communications market amounts to around 30 %. And
Siemens is market leader for cordless telephones. In
telecommunications, our successful cooperation with
both of the Croatian operators – Croatian Telekom (HT)
and VIPNET – was extended further. This is happening
mainly as part of the extension of existing network
capacities and the launch of new services. The positive
growth in business led to a 27 % increase in PSE research
and development expenditure to EUR 996,000. Significant contracts were concluded by the EV/KWU and industry divisions. Due to sustained demand in the Information and Communication segment and as a result of
PSE’s R&D activities, the number of employees at
Siemens d.d. Croatia went up from 746 to 928 in the year
under review.
Siemens d.o.o. Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina
managed to continue its positive trend in the past financial year. New orders, at EUR 61.3 million, were above
target. About half of new orders were in the Information
and Communication sector. The most important contracts include extending the GSM network in the Srpska
Republic and in the Bosnia Herzegovina Federation. ICN
is market leader for EWSD exchanges and is supplier to
the PTT. In the medical solutions division, Siemens is
also market leader. In total, 65 staff work for Siemens
d.o.o. at our offices in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka in
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the 2000/2001 financial year Siemens more than
doubled its sales in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia,
with the figure up to EUR 14.1 million. New orders, at
EUR 20.8 million, more than quadrupled. This dynamic
surge has been driven by the MED, EV/KWU, as well as
the ICM and ICN divisions. The most significant contracts
included extending the EWSD exchange in Priština/
Kosovo and upgrading the Kolubara power station. There
are 56 staff at Siemens d.o.o. Belgrade, and our representative offices in Podgorice/Montenegro and Priština/
Kosovo have now gained a foothold in the market.
Investments
Investments in property, plant and equipment
amounted to EUR 85.4 million, 58.1 % up on comparable
figures of the previous year. Investments in property,
plant and equipment mainly included expanding and
upgrading our IT equipment and production and testing
facilities. In the Information and Communication
Networks division investments in leased equipment were
made.
EUR 43.5 million was invested in acquiring equity
interests or raising our shareholdings in existing affiliated companies. Increased shareholdings in existing affiliated companies were mainly accounted for by restructuring measures within the Siemens AG Austria group of
companies.
We raised our equity in some existing affiliated companies in order to strengthen their financial position.
Outlook for the 2001/2002 Financial Year
Siemens AG Austria has reacted to changing market
conditions by means of setting up new companies,
restructuring and cost-cutting. This has created the prerequisites to continue to be successful in an economically
difficult environment.
Business performance in those countries where
Siemens AG Austria has regional responsibility is expected to continue to grow. The basis for this is that political
relations are stabilising, and that there is a positive
investment climate against the backdrop of economic
upswing in the relevant countries.
An increase in business volume is expected in the
2001/2002 financial year. Figures for both new orders
and sales should exceed the previous year’s results. In
particular, growth is expected in telecommunications
infrastructure, transportation systems and IT services.
Vienna, November 2001
The Managing Board
Assets, Financial and Earnings Position
The balance sheet total went up in the year under
review by EUR 102.0 million.
On the assets side, this was mainly the result of an
increase in the items “property, plant and equipment” of
EUR 25.3 million, “advances to suppliers” of EUR 30.4
million, and “receivables from group companies” of
EUR 67.2 million; “financial assets” were down EUR 16.3
million. On the liabilities side, the increase is mainly
attributable to the advances received from customers. In
relation to the balance sheet total (without retained earnings), the liabilities side shows a net equity ratio of
16.9 %, which is a slight decrease of 0.2 % on last year.
In spite of a significant improvement in the operating
result, profits on ordinary activities were down EUR 88.2
million on the previous year; mainly due to a fall in
interest and investment income.
Proposal for the Distribution of Net Income
The Managing Board of Siemens AG Austria proposes
the payment of a dividend of EUR 247 million. The Managing Board furthermore proposes that the balance of
the net profit be carried forward.

Siemens Group Austria. The percentages refer to the
direct or indirect share ownership of Siemens AG
Berlin and Munich. Where figures are in brackets,
Siemens AG Austria has neither direct nor indirect
shareholdings.
Exogenous expansion continued, especially in the
Information and Communication division. addIT
Dienstleistungen GmbH & Co KG Klagenfurt emerged
from the amalgamation of BITS Business Information
Technology Services Klagenfurt and Carinthia EDV
GmbH. Furthermore, a majority stake in Datamil
Informationssysteme GmbH & Co KG Pasching was
acquired. Likewise, Together Internet Services GmbH
Vienna, was founded.
To strengthen its position in central Europe,
SBS acquired a majority stake in Siemens Business
Services s.r.o. Bratislava as well as a 100 % stake in a
software company now trading under the name of
Siemens Business Services SRL, Baia Mare, Romania.
By means of restructuring measures, our share in
Medwell Internet Services AG Vienna was raised from
25 to 40 %. On the other hand, the Siemens group
reduced its equity stake in red-stars.com data AG
to 3 %.
The Siemens group now holds 40 % of shares in
DATATRAK Austria Telematik GmbH.
In the reporting period, PSE expanded its activities
in the north German area by acquiring bbcom Broadband Communications GmbH & Co KG Hamburg
from ICN/SAG. In addition, a software company,
PSE Romania s.r.l. Brasov, was founded in Romania.
In the Energy sector, activities in Slovakia were
stepped up through the acquisition of Telegyr
Systems Slovakia s.r.o., Bratislava.
In the year under review, Siemens acquired the
Mannesmann part of the Vodafone group in Germany, and as a result, shareholdings in Mannesmann
Austria AG were also taken over in Austria. The Industry sector consolidated its position by purchasing
Demag Cranes & Components GmbH, Salzburg and
by setting up the Siemens Dematic business division.
The Siemens automotive engineering division
founded a subsidiary, Siemens Automotive GmbH, in
Vienna.
