2016 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL
TO CLOSE JUNE 30TH
This year St. Louis Church was involved in the historic
effort called Upon This Rock and for this reason did not
conduct a separate Catholic Charities Appeal. Our support of
Catholic Charities was through the Upon This Rock effort.
Catholic Charities is guaranteed to receive $129,000 through
St. Louis Church toward the $11 million dollar goal for the
2016 Catholic Charities Appeal.
The Appeal, which officially began January 6, helps fund
Catholic Charities’ 70 myriad programs and services across 61
sites in Western New York along with a number of ministries
through the Bishop’s Fund for the Faith. The theme for the
2016 Appeal is “Find Good Within” and the patron saint of the
92nd annual Appeal is St. Nicholas.
There are those who have chosen to give directly to
Catholic Charities outside of the Upon This Rock Program.
Those donations plus our Upon This Rock donations have
continued to grow helping the Catholic Charites Appeal to
reach its goal.
The 2016 Catholic Charities Appeal will close this week on
June 30th. Catholic Charities has raised 99% of its goal and
only needs about $112,000 to meet this year’s goal. There are
still a few short days left if anyone would like to donate to
Catholic Charities. A donation can be made directly to Catholic
Charities.
Thank you once again for your generous support of St.
Louis Church, Catholic Charities, the Church in Western New
York and the Diocese of Buffalo. Let us continue to pray in
thanksgiving to God for giving us a generous heart by which
we can prepare for the future of the Church in Western New
York.

as necessary.

VOCATION THOUGHT
Jesus still speaks the invitation, “Come, follow Me!” If God
is calling you to priesthood or religious life, what is holding you
back? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father
Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535.

WORD OF LIFE
“Miscarriage includes emotional, relational and spiritual
suffering that requires assistance from family, friends and
church leaders. ...Although we may feel unsure how best to
comfort those who mourn, we must stand with them in their
time of suffering.”

ANNUAL NOVENA IN HONOR OF
OUR BLESSED LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
to be held at the Carmelite Monastery
75 Carmel Road—Buffalo, NY
The annual Solemn Public Novena in honor of Our
Blessed Lady of Mount Carmel, beginning on Friday, July
8, and closing on the feast day, Saturday, July 16, will be
conducted by Rev. Joseph Gabriel Cusimano, O.S.B., of the
Monastery of Christ in the Desert in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
Services each evening of the Novena will begin with the
Rosary at 7:00 p.m., followed by Holy Mass. We ask that all
who attend be modestly and suitably dressed, as is proper in
the House of God.
There will be no Benediction services on Sunday, July 10.
PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
Next week, our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence
Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he
needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The
proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of
society, including victims of war, oppression, and disaster. Join
our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are
suffering.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES
Last Chance to give or pledge to Appeal 2016! Bishop
Malone will announce the 2016 total, hopefully achieving the
$11 million goal, on June 30 during the Forte Tenors concert
at Kleinhans Music Hall. The amount raised will go toward
helping nearly 132,000 people across Western New York. For
92 years, Catholic Charities has been making a difference for
people of every faith and ethnicity. Catholic Charities empowers
children, families and seniors to achieve meaningful, healthy and
productive lives. Every donation will make a difference in
someone’s life. Find Good Within. Open hearts follow Jesus’
lead. Please donate to the 2016 Appeal today. Visit
ccwny.org or call (716) 218-1400.
JOURNEY INTO LOVE
The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married
couples to assist with the monthly diocesan marriage
preparation program, Journey Into Love. Married couples help
by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential
topics and issues that engaged and newly married couples
face. Married couples that support this ministry find it
beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to
the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their
marriage. If you are interested in finding out more about this
very successful diocesan marriage program, call the Family
Life Office at 847-2210.
FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION
How often do we procrastinate when we have something
important to do but it may require some sacrifice on our part?
We are not unlike Elisha, the disciples, and others we see in
today’s scripture readings. When God tells Elijah to anoint
Elisha as a prophet to succeed him, Elisha hems and haws.
His intentions are good but he tries to delay making the
commitment. In the Gospel when Jesus calls the disciples to
“follow me”, they also hesitate. Eventually Elisha gives up
everything to help others and follow the prophet Elijah, as God
called him to do. Likewise the disciples recognize what they
have to do to follow Jesus and they never look back. Quite
simply they follow through on their good intentions. What is
holding us back or distracting us from what God calls us to do?
Perhaps it’s time we consider if we’re making excuses and
commit to following through.
