MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
& CEO
Getting an Early Start
Welcome back
to The Bushnell!
I’m writing that a
month or two earlier
than I normally do
since we didn’t want to
pass up the opportunity to
bring our audiences the national tour of
If/Then as part of our 2016-2017 Bushnell
Broadway Series. Hartford is the nextto-last stop in the current leg of the tour,
and we’re especially pleased to welcome
UConn alumna Jackie Burns back to
Connecticut as she leads the cast of this
captivating new musical.
When I look at the scope and variety of
our Series this year, I feel like we can truly
say we are bringing the best of Broadway
to Connecticut. Four of our shows are
recent Tony-winners for Best Musical,
Play, or Musical Revival, and we have
productions ranging from the traditional
(The King & I ) to the contemporary
(If/Then and Fun Home). We’re also
bringing back, off-Series, two of the most
popular and acclaimed shows of the last
decade, The Book of Mormon and Jersey
Boys. Thanks once again to Farmington
Bank and Travelers for generously
sponsoring the Broadway Series.
Summer is also the time when we’re
able to get some maintenance and
renovation projects accomplished in our
performance halls, public spaces, and
backstage areas. If you entered via the
box office today, the most significant
change you noticed is our more open,
welcoming, reconfigured ticket windows.
In this age of on-line sales and payment
by credit card, the need for thick glass
windows, unwelcoming barriers, and
chatting through microphones has gone
by the wayside. We plan to continue to
create an even more open and welcoming
atmosphere at The Bushnell, where any
obstacles separating our guests from our
always-ready-to-help staff members will
continue to be removed.
As always, thank you for spending time
with us at The Bushnell. We welcome any
ideas and suggestions you have to make
your visits here always feel like you’re
coming home.
Sincerely,
David R. Fay

SPONSORED BY ROBINSON & COLE
SEPTEMBER 25
The Magic of Bill Blagg Live! Sensory Friendly performance on
September 25 at 10am is sponsored by Hospital for Special Care and
Walgreens with a special thanks to Autism Speaks.
To say that BILL BLAGG has had a magical life would be no exaggeration. From
the moment he received his first magic kit in 1986, his world was never the same.
After years of endless practice and persistence, Bill professionally launched his
magic performing career in 1996, at the ripe age of sixteen. In just two short years
of professional performance, Bill developed a stage presence that made him a
stand out in the magic community, due in part to his off-the-cuff personality and
his high energy performance style.
He chose to put his skills to the test in 1998, by entering the adult stage competition
at the Abbott Magic Get Together in Colon, MI, which is also hailed as the magic
capital of the world. Magic had been Bill’s life for over twelve years, he had
performed hundreds of shows, and it all hinged on a single, five minute routine;
his dancing handkerchief. He had just turned eighteen, barely old enough to
enter the competition, and he was about to make magic history by becoming
the youngest contestant to ever win the prestigious event.
Following his win, Bill never looked back. While intensely studying to earn a
degree in performing arts and communications at Carthage College in Kenosha,
WI, Bill was busy planning and staging his next big venture; his own ninetyminute, grand-scale magic and illusion show he called “Beyond Imagination.”
After graduating with honors, Bill took his illusion production on the road to select
cities throughout the Midwest. He virtually sold out all of the shows, with his
unique brand of grand-scale magic and illusion. Entertainment Weekly summed
up Bill’s appeal by saying, “Bill Blagg has a charm and style all his own; he’s
definitely the best kept secret in magic!”
Bill prides himself with being able to consistently create and stage new illusions
to thrill his audiences year after year. Through his countless stage appearances,
Bill consistently draws standing ovations from audiences who have experienced
his unique talents and performing arts ability.
Today we are pleased to welcome Bill Blagg and his team to the stage to present
Bill’s latest magical production “The Magic of Bill Blagg LIVE! Sit back, relax and
enjoy the magic and illusions of the nation’s top magical star…Bill Blagg!
*Following the performance there will be an autograph session in the lobby with Bill Blagg.
**Bill Blagg appears by arrangement with Shaw Entertainment Group

You will receive 10 free trees when you join The National Arbor Day Foundation
1. Trees conserve energy in the summer,
and save you money. Properly planted trees
can cut your air conditioning costs by 15–35%.
2. Trees help clear the air. Trees produce the
oxygen we breathe, and reduce air pollution
by lowering air temperature, through
respiration, and by retaining particulates.
3. Trees bring songbirds close by. Birdsong
will fill the air as trees provide nesting sites,
food, and cover for countless species.
4. Trees around your home can increase its
value by up to 15% or more. Studies of
comparable houses with and without trees
place a markedly higher value on those
whose yards are sheltered by trees.
5. Trees help clean our rivers and streams.
Trees hold soil in place and reduce polluted
runoff into our waterways.
6. Trees conserve energy in the winter.
Trees can slow cold winter winds, and can
cut your heating costs 10–20%.
7. Trees fight global warming. As they
grow, trees remove carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere, the major contributor to global
warming. Trees planted near our homes and
in our communities moderate temperatures
and reduce the need for air conditioning and
heating produced by burning fossil fuels,
a major source of excess CO2.
8. Trees make your home, and your
neighborhood, more beautiful. Trees mark the
