Access the trailhead off Circle 7 OR via Lava Lands Visitor Center to view untamed rapids. Hike or drive to the top of Lava Butte’s inactive volcanic cone for an outstanding view of Central Oregon. On a clear day you can see three states -- Oregon, California and Washington from Paulina Peak! Newberry Volcano is the largest ice age volcano in Oregon and obsidian flow in the U.S., encompassing 500 square miles. Hike 7-miles around the lake (looks like Maui to some) look for the hot springs. At McKay crossing, hike for another 6-8 miles along Peter Skene Ogden Trail to see multiple 50 ft. waterfalls. Look for its natural rockslide for a 1-4 hour float opposite to the Paulina Plunge (mtn. bike). East Lake is known for record-breaking fish.
