and is our most popular instrument!
The outer scale measures wind speed from
0-100 MPH while the inner scale shows the
0-160 km/h equivalent. Wind direction is
displayed via eight highly visible red LEDs.
Wind speed is self-powered by the rooftop
sensor, while the direction LEDs are
powered by the included AC adapter.
High gust is saved with our unique
Gust Register, allowing you to monitor
the highest gust even if you are not present

Merlin records changes, trends and
present conditions. Digital readings are
given in four modes: ‘Present’ displays
existing wind conditions; ‘Peak’ gives speed
and direction of highest gust since last
reset; ‘Average’ reveals average wind speed
and direction since last reset; and ‘Forecast’
compares the most recent 12-minute average
with the previous 12 minutes. Features userselectable units of measurement for wind
speed (MPH, Knots, km/h or m/s). Wind
direction is displayed via eight LEDs over
a 16-point compass rose pattern. Merlin
can interface with Mystic to compute wind
chill readings. Memory data is protected

Select the length of time for each ‘counter’
with the reset switch. Collect annual
rainfall in one memory and weekly or
daily rainfall in the other. Dial displays

Harbormaster is an east coast tide
clock with patented quartz movement.
Powered by a single AA battery (included),
Harbormaster tracks according to average
time between lunar high tides in the
Atlantic Ocean (12 hrs, 25 min).
Fluctuations in conditions, location and
the distance of the Moon from Earth can
affect this average. However, over a
lunar month, Harbormaster will provide
a practical indication of local tides.

aluminum with black numerals or matte black with white numerals.
Full 250° scale length, pivot and jewel movements, 300 microamps
full scale, 450 Ohms resistance with 180°/second response rate. Wind
speed Gust Register response rate 75% Vv/5 seconds. Reset knob
clutch torque less than 1 ft-lb., spring loaded.
Air: 3" overall height; 2" housing diameter. Probe is nickel-plated brass,

/ " O.D., 1" long. Sensor element is a precision thermistor, a solid state
device which changes its resistance inversely proportional with temperature from 150,000 Ohms at low end to 1,500 Ohms at high end.
+ 0.2°C; time constant 10 seconds.
Interchangeability of thermistors is –
Water: Thermistor specifications identical to Air Sensor. Housing is
solid bronze rod, bored to accept thermistor in its very end and potted
wiring. 3" long, 3/8" O.D. Water sensor is intended for boats, pools
and hot tubs. For any other application, please consult Maximum.
Generators
Cup type: 7 1/2" swept diameter. Weight: 4 oz. Generates a sine wave
AC voltage proportional to windspeed. At 102 MPH it spins at 1800 RPM,
putting out 3.67 volts at 60Hz. Output is linearly proportional down to
8 MPH. Black Lexan housing and rotor are impervious to shock,
vibration, sunlight and ice. All generators are calibrated to a master to
be interchangeable. Thrust and journal bearings are both O-ring

Current Requirements
Instruments requiring power are supplied with outlet-mounted
transformers for 120-Volt AC household current. Where power is not
available, most instruments are available to run off optional 12VDC
power source. European voltages are available as an option.

rotor type cable. Permanent magnet actuates eight hermetically sealed

Gust Register
Maximum’s Gust Register (above) is a delicate needle of gold-plated
phosphor-bronze, photo etched for precision. Unique to Maestro
and Vigilant, it is the mechanism by which highest gusts are saved.
Minute oscillations are induced in the meter needle, which then moves
the Gust Register by tiny “pile driver” thrusts. Perfectly concentric to
the pivot and square to the dial, Gust Register is both an engineering
gem and a work of art.
