Why Brazil?
Why Brazil
Brazil for International Meetings and Business
According to the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), the biggest global association in
meeting segment, in 2009 Brazil hosted 293 international meetings, following their criteria for including an event
on their database, which are: meetings must rotate on a regular basis, attract a minimum of 50 participants
and rotate between at least 3 countries. These figures place the country 7th position worldwide in number of
international events. Brazil is the best-ranked country among Latin American countries and the 2nd place in the
continent ranking.
Brazil has the largest, most important market for trade fairs in South America. This is particularly evident in
economic sectors in which Brazil has a strong international position. These include textiles, footwear and
accessories, jewelry and precious stones, foodstuffs, plastics, building materials, aeronautics, agribusiness and
instruments for the health sector.
The growth of business and events tourism in Brazil is largely due to the excellent infrastructure available: a large
network of top-ranking hotels and resorts, excellent airports, transportation, telecom and financial services.
Beyond this, of course, there are other attractions like the varied, tasty cuisine and the wide range of options in
entertainment and shopping.
Add to all this the fact that Brazil has a rapidly expanding economy with a domestic market of over 180 million
people, a predominantly urban population. The modern, diversified industrial park, strong, dynamic commerce,
advanced technology in various sectors, and an agriculture and livestock sector that is among the most highly
developed and productive in the world all make Brazil a virtually inexhaustible source of investment.
That is why we can affirm that a business trip to Brazil – be it for trade fairs, congresses, symposium, business
meetings and events, for events in the fields of health, politics, sports, science and education, for shopping,
promotion or technical visits – is always a visit with guaranteed returns in every aspect.

North, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and South. Although 92% of Brazilian territory is located in an inter-tropical
zone and warm weather predominates (with average temperatures above 20ºC), the country also sees occasional
snow and has semi-arid regions.

Why Brazil
Currency – The currency in Brazil is the Real (R$). Dollars, euros and traveller’s checks can easily
be exchanged in hotels, authorized banks and currency exchange places. All international credit cards
are accepted in most hotels, shops, restaurants and commercial establishments. On average, tourists can
consider an exchange rate of around USD 1 = R$ 1,65 and EUR 1 = 2,79
Visas and Passports – An entry visa is not required for holders of passports from
European or South American countries. Visas are only required for participants from countries adopting
the same policy for Brazilian citizens. Tourist visas can be renewed for a period of 180 days per year.
Passports must be valid for at least six months after the planned date of arrival in Brazil. For more
information access: www.mre.gov.br or www.braziltour.com
Language – Portuguese is the national language, but both the vocabulary and accent and
intonation are very different from what is heard in Portugal and other former Portuguese colonies. In
hotels and tourist centres English and Spanish are spoken to best cater to foreing tourists.
Accomodation – With more than 28,000 options of certified hotels to choose from,
Brazil offers a huge variety of accomodation, capable of satisfying the most varied and demanding
of tastes. For more information access: www.
portaldehospedagem.com.br
Time Zones – Brazil covers an area of
4 different time zones. The time zone of Brasilia
(capital of the country) is the national standard
and is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time,
for the most of the year. In summer most of
brazilian states move the clock forward one
hour.
Why Brazil
Voltage – In the majority of Brazilian cities the electric current is either 110 or 220 volts.
Although it is advisable to confirm the voltage before plugging in any appliances.
Car Rentals – Rental car, with or without a driver, are available for tourists at the main
airports and in city centres. You should book in advance. Ask about the traffic legislation of the place
you are going to visit. For more information access: www.abla.com.br
Taxis – There are large fleets of taxis in most cities. Regular taxis, with a meter, can be hailed in the
street. Radio-taxis can be called by phone.
Transport – For air travel, the main national airlines cover most domestic flights. There are also
regional airlines, offering high levels of comfort and safety. The bus are also popular kind of transport
for travelling between states.
Tipping – Most restaurants and bars include a 10% service charge in the bill. It is usual to leave
a little more if the service was good. When it is not included in the bill, the general rule is a tip of
between 10% and 15%. Taxi drivers do not expect to be tipped.
Communications – Any part of the world
can be reached in real time by phone, fax or e- mail. The
Brazilian cell phone market is the second largest in the
world, with 650 thousand new lines sold every month.

Here you are Welcome
Ranked the nicest city in the Southern hemisphere and
4th nicest in the world by Reader’s Digest in 2008.
São Paulo is more than ready to please the participants of an
event, with success guaranteed.
Why São Paulo
Security
According to EMBRATUR and SpTuris, Government Tourism Departments, one of the urban myths that surrounds
Brazil and can put people off a visit is the safety and security issue.
In fact, Brazil and it’s main cities, like São Paulo, are no more dangerous than cities in Europe or North America and
violent crimes againsto turists or foreign visitors are extremely rare, hence the headlines if they doc cur.
Brazil is also politically stable with no natural enemies and no terrorist activities.
Being sensible and streetwise is the key to a trouble -free and enjoyable stay both in Brazil and anywhere in the
world.
To help advise tourists, assist with any problems and to ensure peace of mind and security for all our visitors, the
State of São Paulo has pioneered the creation of Deatur – a Tourist Police Station – Deatur has six stations in the state:
located at the airports, the Port of Santos, Anhembi Park, in Interlagos and the other at Rua da Consolação, close to
Avenida Paulista, in the heart of the city.
They are always on duty to help tourists, and can be found at the following addresses:
- Rua Consolação, 247 - Downtown – (11) 3257-4475
- Pavilhão de Exposições do Anhembi – (11) 2226-0664
- Aeroporto de Congonhas – (11) 5090-9032
- Aeroporto de Guarulhos – (11) 6445-3064
Why São Paulo
The several cities in São Paulo
In an initiative of SPCVB and its associates, the project Destinations segregated Sao Paulo into “segments” in order
to divulge each region’s attractions.
There are five destinations - Berrini, Paulista & Jardins, Centro, Anhembi & Center Norte, Ibirapuera & Moema and
Faria Lima & Itaim – with potential and infrastructure comparable to many state capitals.
The organization envisages the Project as a way to boost the volume of business, by promoting, attracting and
generating even more events.
We have used this new geographic concept to segment the city so you can taste and experience the many
sensations it has to offer, before and after your event.

Berrini
The Destinations Project is an initiative of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau, and is
designed to showcase the best of the city’s most popular districts.
Just as a pizza can be made a thousand different ways without ever losing its identity, the Destinations
Project reflects the need to segment São Paulo, which is still a hard city for outsiders to understand,
given its massive size.
The Berrini Destination arose through the efforts of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau in
conjunction with seven of the region’s luxury hotels: Gran Estanplaza São Paulo, Grand Hyatt São
Paulo, Hotéis Transamérica, Hilton São Paulo Morumbi and Sheraton São Paulo WTC.
Production of marketing campaigns and initiatives to attract a greater number of visitors
To increase the number of visitors to São Paulo and lengthen their stay in the city, the São Paulo
Convention & Visitors Bureau views the “Destinations Project” as a way to streamline and organize
sales and promotion, and to secure and create events.
With this vision, the SPCVB is helping design a new organizational structure that results in a welldivided city, that resembles a pizza.
Just like São Paulo, with all its diversity, you can have it
whole or sliced the way you like it.
São Paulo is All the Best…and so is
Berrini!
We’ve divided São Paulo into
pieces, so you can sample each
region and experience everything
this amazing city has to offer.

Why São Paulo?

and the 4th in the World
Reader´s Digest Magazine
I’ve been organizing events internationally and found that the different
cultures, languages and the long distance make the job so much harder,
sometimes even jeopardizing the results. Finally, after meeting the staff
at the CVB in Sao Paulo, I feel I have a partner onsite.

I have been to conferences in many cities , and I truly believe that Sao Paulo beats them all.
The city has great restaurants, art and culture, and more important than that, it is a friendly
