St. Michael’s News...News...News...News...News May 23, 2014 Knabe Concert Grand Piano donated to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church We would like to express our profound gratitude to Paul Davis and Jon Davis for their generous donation of their family’s Knabe grand piano—built in 1975—to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Florida, in memory of their parents Madeline and Marvin Davis. k The history of Wm. Knabe & Co. began when Wilhelm Knabe (1803-1864) who was born in Kreuzburg, Germany, immigrated to the United States and settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where he apprenticed with piano maker Henry Hartye. Knabe then partnered with Henry Gaehle to found the piano company Knabe & Gaehle. After Wilhelm’s death in 1864, his sons William and Ernest continued the family tradition. In 1926, the Knabe piano was selected to be the official piano of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Knabe pianos are handmade, limitedproduction instruments created in the finest tradition of more than 300 years of piano building. “The rich and wondrous tonal quality of the Knabe has often been described as the nearest approach to the human singing voice.” For more information please go to: http://www.knabepianos.com/history We would like to thank the following people for generously sharing their time and talents to install the beautiful Knabe concert grand piano in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Gainesville, Florida on May 23, 2014, so its voice may continue to be heard for many years: Paul Davis The Reverend Rich Clark Gary Miller, Senior Warden Miriam Zach, Director of Music Ron Weigert, Piano Builder Mikesch Muecke, Designer Parramore Music, Ocala, Florida - notes by Dr. Miriam Zach Director of Music/Organist 5’ 3” Knabe Concert Series Grand Piano Serial Number 186968 From: http://www.knabepianos.com/wkg53.php
