Extended snowmaking
Boarder Kontrol®
New snowmaking has been installed
on Eagle Way giving skiers and
boarders more reliable access to top
to bottom riding earlier in the season.
It will also provide a top up of fresh
snow when Mother Nature is taking
time out. The mountain team
installed 400m of piping that will
attach 9 hydrants, of which five are
automated, to the section from the top
of Kosciuszko Express to the top of
Snowgums.
This will revolutionise the way you
learn to snowboard. Exclusive to
Thredbo, Boarder Kontrol® is a new
braking snowboard that will allow
beginner snowboarders to control
their speed, allowing them more time
to master the skills required to stop
and turn. Boarder Kontrol® riders will
utilise a contemporary progression to
learn and progress more quickly than
traditional techniques allow. To fast
track your progression in snowboarding,
Boarder Kontrol® has teamed up with
Thredbo Snow Sports School to create
a package that includes a 9.30am
daily lesson, board rental and
lift pass.
Ride the Big 5
Long runs = more fun, more riding
= more fun. Thredbo is home to the
longest runs in Australia, in fact, five
of the country’s longest are right here
in Thredbo, this gives skiers and
boarders of all levels, kilometres of
constant cruising. The Thredbo Big 5
all measure over 3kms in length with
one trail coming in at a thigh burning
5kms. This winter in Thredbo, you can
throw it out to your friends to take on
the Big 5. You can schuss the mighty
Supertrail, cruise down the Village
Trail, lay them over on World Cup or
hit up the off piste from Sponars and
take the high road from the Cruiser to
Friday Flat, they alone equal over 15
kilometres of downhill fun.
Max6 – Group Lessons
Adult snow goers can learn and
improve their skiing and boarding
quickly with group lessons now
capped at six guests. So the maximum
size of each class will be six and all
riders will be of similar ability. You will
progress quickly as the instructor will
have more individual teaching time to
work on your trouble spots. The Max6
lessons are available for intermediate
to advanced adult skiers and boarders.
Transition
snowboard camps
Thredbo Snow Sports is excited to
team up with Transition Snowboarding
to bring a new level of snowboarding
progression to the mountains. The
partnership brings together two
first-class entities - Thredbo, home to
top terrain parks and trails plus some
of Australia’s best snowboarders, and
Transition Snowboarding who boast
high quality coaching and a cool
camp environment. Transition will
offer a range of snowboard camps in
Thredbo including the holiday camp
that is all about fun and progression,
a focused weekend program and a
spring session.
Snow cat
All the right gear
With the soaring popularity of terrain
parks, Thredbo has purchased a new
$300,000 snow cat specifically for
terrain parks. The tool of choice,
when it comes to building parks,
is the PistenBully 400 Park and it
is now in Thredbo. It is designed
and developed for creating and
maintaining terrain park features. It
is powerful, quiet, comfortable and
boasts features that increase the
functionality for the driver. This gives
skiers and boarders a better range
of features with a smoother finish,
keeping the parks fresh and exciting.
Thredbo Sports Equipment Rental
has invested around $300,000 in
new clothing, ski and snowboard
equipment for 2013. This year Thredbo
Sports has increased the choice for
the customer in the Elite ski rental
range with a wider range of models to
choose from. There is now a dedicated
retail area for snowboarding at the
Friday Flat retail store. It will have a
new range of board focused products
and the option to try before you buy.
To keep up to date with what’s new,
season colours, fashions and snow
gadgets, drop in and chat to the
friendly Thredbo Sports team.
Unrivalled mountain

beginners, intermediate and advanced. With snow galore,
480 hectares of trails, four progressive feature filled terrain parks,
a ridercross course and plenty of natural hits there is something

Snowmaking has Thredbo covered
Thredbo does snowmaking better than any other resort in the
southern hemisphere. With more coverage across more trails, for
more riders, snowmaking really has Thredbo covered from top to
bottom and side to side.
Snowmaking:
•Provides snow early in the season to get skiing and
snowboarding started
•Improves and maintains the quality of the slopes
•Supplements natural snow in locations that are prone to
wear and tear, adding length to the season
•Improves guest comfort so whenever possible you can
ride on a nice fresh cover
12

TERRAIN
Thredbo’s terrain parks are some of the most talked about in the
country. They are all exclusively designed, shaped and created by
the team on the ground, who not only build and look after the parks,
but they ride them too making sure they are fresh, flowing and fun.
The full-time park crew constantly create new combinations with the
boxes, street gear, rails, jumps and other cool features.
Thredbo’s four parks are designed for progression. There’s a park
for kids with easy over rollers and tunnels, beginners can take their
first slides in the park at the Cruiser with sweet little learning line-ups,
intermediates will love the ever changing features in High Noon and
advanced riders boost it big from the high flying Antons jump lines.
The ridercross course with banks, berms and tight turns is sure to
sharpen your skills. Whether you are on two boards or one there is
a stack of free flowing features to spin, jib, slide or glide in the mix
of Thredbo’s terrain parks.
Wombat World
- for the kids
On Friday Flat this park area is
designed to introduce kids to
freestyle with small intro size
features like rollers, berms,
small jumps and cool tunnels.
Cruiser Park
- beginners
This park is located in the Cruiser
area and is the place beginner
and lower intermediate park
riders go to practise freestyle
moves. Features dance floor and
flat boxes along with an array of
hips, jumps and table tops.
High Noon Park
- intermediate
This park is a playground for
intermediate riders looking to
step it up a gear. There are jumps
ranging from 15 to 20ft, rail and
box setups, funky jib features
including pole jams, stair sets,
stall bars and wall rides.
Antons Advanced Park
The advanced park is where the
biggest and best ideas of the
park crew become a reality for
everyone to enjoy. You can
expect to see pro’s boosting
off the booters with jump lines
ranging from 35 to 60ft. There
are also line ups of rails, techy
jibs and other one-off features.
Ridercross Course
Now an Olympic sport, riders
can’t get enough of Ridercross.
Featuring banks, berms, jumps
and gates this challenging course
certainly tests the best of riders.

Live for days like this
All-New RAV4
LIVE RAV4WARD
Some people don’t get it. They can’t understand why we climb out of bed on a cold winter’s night, drive through the
darkness on deserted highways and winding mountain roads, then climb high into the frozen dawn. Just us, our boards
and the rising sun. But on epic days like this, when the powder’s fresh and the jumps are landing, it just makes sense.
Like the All-New RAV4. It’s built for adventure. It performs at every turn, looks
the goods and has all the space we need for our gear. It can handle just about
anything I throw at it. Which is great, because I’m not slowing down anytime soon.

Getting to Thredbo
Car
Parking and access to Thredbo is some of the
easiest in the Australian Alps. Day and overnight
car parks hold thousands of vehicles. For day
visitors - park your car and you are literally only
metres from the slopes. If you are staying in the
village, many chalets and apartments have on-site
parking so you can simply unload, open up the
roller door and you’re set. If your snow legs are
weary a regular shuttle bus buzzes around the
village for your convenience. For more information
go to thredbo.com.au/village.
Thredbo is a six hour drive from both Sydney
and Melbourne. A park use fee is payable at the
National Park entry station. It is $27 per car for
24 hours or $190 for an annual permit. Once in
Thredbo parking is easy and it is free.
Bus
Regular bus services link Thredbo to most
major centres.

Do your research
Research
Get the right gear
Layer up
Learn about resort facilities and
activities through the website
and also look at a resort map so
you can familiarise yourself with
the mountain and the grading
of the mountain trails before you
arrive.
For adults and children you need
to make sure all your gear fits. If
you borrow gear from a buddy
make sure you are comfortable
and it fits properly before you
go. For skis and boards get
a trained technician to tweak
settings for your safety. You can
hire all you need for the snow
in Thredbo.
It is best to wear layers so you
can add and remove small items
of clothing as conditions allow.
Interact
Talk to other snow lovers via
Thredbo’s Facebook page,
visit snow forums, follow us
on Twitter.
Get physical
Prepare yourself physically
before you visit. Join a ski fit
program at the gym or ask a
trainer at your local gym for
some snow specific exercises.
Make the most of
your day
Take a lesson. As a minimum
you should take at least a
couple of lessons to get you up
and going and stopping with
confidence. This is particularly
important for kids.
Pre-purchase
To save time while you’re on
holidays pre-purchase your
lessons, hire and lift passes in
advance. It is well worth looking
for season deals and packages
as well:
store.thredbo.com.au/estore/
Ask for help
If you have friends that ski
or snowboard don’t be
embarrassed to ask for tips –
they will be more than willing
to impart their knowledge if it
means an extra skiing buddy.
Tips for taking kids to the snow
Educate
Have a backup
Carry snacks
Read snow books, tell snow
jokes, do snow colouring in and
show fun photos of people in the
snow.
Whenever you can, have
back-ups of basic items. Having
two pairs of gloves, an extra
beanie, socks and dry shoes will
ensure a happy child at the end
of the day.
Giving your child a muesli bar
or snack to have in their pocket
is a good way to keep their
energy levels up.
Test run
Get the kids to wear their gear
around the house before the
holiday and do a few test runs
of putting goggles, boots, skis,
gloves and clothing on before
the big day.
Protection
Helmets, goggles, sunscreen
and sunnies are a must in
the snow.
Be organised
Pre-purchase and fill out all
your paperwork the day before.
Take your child through the
day’s events and even drop
by Thredboland to familiarise
yourself and the children.
Watch the sun
Regularly apply liberal amounts
of sunscreen and have a good
lip balm close by. Above all
else, ensure your child
understands they are at the
snow to have fun.

Whether you’re the adventurer trekking Australia’s highest
mountains, the thrill seeker tearing down the country’s
longest mountain biking trails or a family wanting to explore
and experience the High Country. Thredbo is where you
have Australia’s highest mountain range on your door step,
waiting to be explored and ready to be conquered.
Mt Kosciuszko
Mountain Biking
At the top of Thredbo’s year round
chairlift you’re only 6km from the
top of Australia’s highest mountain,
Mt Kosciuszko. As you skip across
the High Country you will encounter
amazing natural features, highest
peaks, glacial lakes, fields of alpine
wildflowers, jumbles of granite tors,
expansive grasslands, the headwaters to the famous Snowy River and
the occasional fellow hiker. Guided
and self-guided walks and a very
special Kosciuszko Sunset Walk
are on offer throughout the warmer
months.
Thredbo is the home to some of
the best mountain biking terrain in
Australia. The Thredbo Downhill (or
the Supertrail as you might know it
in winter) sees you take your bike to
the top of the chairlift and then tackle
the technical three kilometre course
that includes jumps, berms and rock
gardens. The Kosciuszko Flow Trail
is the gentle alternative for those just
wanting to cruise from the top. There
are also kilometres of cross country
trails snaking around the valley floor
to enjoy. There is a fully stocked bike
shop and hire store or you can bring
your own bike. The new Pump Track
on the Village Green is a hit with
bikers of all ages.
Bobsled
The Thredbo Bobsled is a 700 metre
luge track and it is a fast blast for all
ages. You sit on a cart and control
your own speed with a brake as you
negotiate twists, turns, straights and
snake bends.

There’s a chairlift open 365 days
a year for visitors to access
Mt Kosciuszko and the spectacular
views across the Thredbo Valley and
High Country. It’s a 15 minute ride
to the top where there’s even a
restaurant for coffee and cake or
a leisurely lunch.
Golf
Thredbo’s 9 hole AGU rated course
is one of the prettiest courses around.
Sitting at the foot of Thredbo’s
mountain, this course is a pleasure
