FROM THE BEGINNING...
Rab® was born from an intrepid journey taken during the South American summer of 1973.
Founder, and accomplished climber, Rab Carrington along with a swarm of his top climbing
accomplices travelled to Argentina with hopes of putting up a daring new route on Fitz Roy.
While all climbers were accounted for upon arrival in Buenos Aires, their climbing gear sat
idle at the shipping docks in Liverpool, England due to a lengthy labour strike.
To pass time while awaiting his gear, Carrington worked under the guidance of a surprise
mentor manufacturing down sleeping bags to fulfill a contract with the Argentine military
and outfit local climbers. It was with this acquired knowledge that Rab found he could
sustain and finance an aggressive globetrotting climbing agenda by manufacturing and
selling his own top of the line down sleeping bags out of Sheffield, England.
For the next 30 years, Rab Carrington built his namesake brand on a foundation
of quality craftsmanship and top performing materials. He sold the company to Equip
Outdoor Technologies LTD in 2003 to expose the brand to the worldwide distribution and
manufacturing capabilities necessary for it to truly become a global player in the outdoor
world. Rab Carrington’s pioneering ideology and the commitment to create gear for the most
extreme conditions in the world allow Rab® to be a dynamic leader in the industry.
