Each year, state health departments use standard procedures to collect data through a series of telephone interviews with U.S. adults. Medication changes were based on clinical guidelines and/or widely accepted criteria. Medication expenses were calculated using national average wholesale prices in 2010. Only medications for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes were taken into account. Inclusion criteria: Patients completed 16-24 weeks of treatment. Patients were included regardless of whether they had diagnoses of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes.
