Members doing what H.O.G. Members do H.O.G. members rode to Lonnie Ray’s BBQ Harrisburg, Missouri on the evening of July 24th for a taste of BBQ. Top photo: The members that made the trip. Below left: Who’s that on D.J.’s back? Could that be Yoda? “To eat barbecue and ride on a Harley-Davidson Yoda likes. Yeesssssss.” Below right: Oh No!?! Is that Charles eyeing that huge bowl of ice cream? Everyone has their own Kryptonite. The Director’s Message Bernie Last month brought the heat of summer but it did not stop the riding. The Chapter maintained a full schedule of ride and those that went on the rides meet some of the new members and had lots of fun. Two days from now will be the Million Dollar Bike Show. This is the Chapter’s primary funds raiser. I hope that you come to enjoy the show as well as volunteer some time to make it a success. Next month we are continuing with a full riding schedule, including the first “director’s Ride”. I will be leading the ride on Saturday August 10th. The ride will leave the shop at 10:00 and we will explore some of the wooded river valleys southwest of Columbia. Lunch will be at an old favorite that we have not been to for a long time. Come join me and your fellow HOGies to ride and have fun. - Bernie Secretary Minutes September 18, 2013 Redonda Heart of Mo. I have pondered what my ideal HOG looks like to me and what I see today. My HOG is not a place or thing; it’s a group of people in love with the idea of freedom, open road and quality fellowship. It’s a place where we never forget why we purchased an over priced motorcycle and gear to boot. It’s never forgetting that our shops support is not a right of passage afforded us, but a privilege that is mutually beneficial. It is a refuge from work, sometimes home and the pitfalls of life. It is our life or a huge part of life for us all. My HOG is HIGHLY supportive of its elected and appointed officials. These fine men and women over the years have dedicated there time, a year of sacrifice to sometimes very critical crowd. My Hog, Finds ways of supporting our leaders by rolling up their sleeves and say, “How Can I Help”. Why! Because, that we all feel the pride of this being our HOG. My HOG says, I want this to be a better HOG, because I am here to help. This is OUR HOG! My HOG doesn’t complain from the back of the room, but stands up and asks how they may support our leaders, the rides, or our shop. My HOG is mindful that we all come from differing backgrounds. We are blue collar, white collar and we are every color in between. We are in the workforce and we are retired. We are new to riding and we are seasoned with thousands of miles under our saddles. We are the sum total of ALL the people that make up HOG and not just one part of life. In my HOG, we are in this for the “love of the ride”. We share about upcoming rides, rides already ridden and the one we hope to do. The newer riders look to the more experienced and the older riders look to the new to share their experiences. In My HOG there is no room for complaints, as do so strips us of why we are here. In my HOG, there is no need to ask for why people no longer ride with us. They ARE attracted to the camaraderie and not repelled by contentious conversation. I see a HOG where folks want to be a part of the American Dream. We have seen that dream and know its there for All to enjoy. There are many HOGs through out the world, but “Heart of Missouri” is OUR HOG! We have every thing to make it the best HOG ever. In my HOG, we all take an active part to make this HOG an envious organization to ride in. We are proud, because we made it that way. This my HOG, What does yours look like? - Anonymous Assistant Director Mike I would just like to thank everyone for their concerns and words of comfort during my surgery and while I have been recovering. I can’t express how hard this summer has been not being able to straddle my Harley. The only thing that has kept this whole ordeal bearable is that I have the most beautiful nurse in the world.... my wife Sherri. Thank you honey. - Mike Million Dollar Bike Show July 27, 2013 Ramblings of a Head Road Captain Dennis ‘DT’ B.A.C.A. A few months ago I was in the leather shop at Bagnell Dam. A bunch of bikers came in wearing a patch that I’d never seen, and only heard of. B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse). They were from Chillicothe, MO. They told me a new group had started in Jefferson City. The membership is free and there aren’t any dues. There is a cost: There is an initial charge for perspective members background checks. The cost is 35.00 and must be done at the MSHP headquarters in Jeff. A baca member must be present during the process. This is needed to insure we aren’t allowing perps or abusers near our kids. The only additional costs of volunteering is your time and your own expenses. Want to know more about BACA? Go to their web site: http://bacaworld.org/ Click on: About; and read the FAQ”s. Chapter photo from the 2013 State HOG Rally in Springfield Friday Lunch Rides Road Captain: Mike Heying From July through September, on the First and Third Fridays there will be a lunch ride leaving out of the Mid America Harley Davidson shop... kick stands up at 10:00 am. So if you’re retired or just feed up with the normal grind of the work week and want to take off a day I will be leading rides to a few of my favorite Choke & Puke stops in the area. We won’t be dealing with those restaurants that smell like Lysol and the waitress has a clean shirt on. We will be dealing with establishments that are repeat offenders with the Board of Health. Guy Fieri’s Triple D might consist of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives we will be dealing with Dysentery, Deliria and Diarrhea. We will dine at a gas station that has been converted into a Greasy Spoon where the 5’2” cook prepares your meal without her dentures in... every since they turned up in a customers bowl of beef stew they stay on the shelf while she is on the clock. We will risk our lives on gas station Sushi, Gyros from a bowling alley and for the Pièce de résistance we will enjoy a lime jello with bologna salad from the cafeteria of a small community hospital. Are you feeling brave! Some of these cockroach infested palaces could be training grounds for Fear Factor & Survivor. So get your tetinus shots updated, grab a box of Amodium AD and let’s ride!!!
