Welcome letter With only 68 cents in my bank account, I was still convinced that you could make a living doing what you love. It was with this total in my checkbook that I landed my first major acting role. Just “68 cents” is what I was willing to have in order to realize my dream. Acting is a passion, an art, and a need that fills my gut. It is this passion that motivated me twelve years ago to pull together a group of the most talented friends I had and create a Company, a Company I lovingly named the 68 Cent Crew. Over the past twelve years, The 68 Cent Crew Theatre Company has grown into a family of loving, supportive, and extraordinarily gifted actors. We are fortunate to have come so far, but it would not have come without hard work, commitment, and a fervent love for what we do. How this came to be I met Jon and Darryl one evening after a performance of THE LATE HENRY MOSS at Theatre 68. Jon told me all about this great script he had. Once he explained the premise to me, it sounded like something right up my alley. Dark comedy, New York diner, pie, guns... Then when David Fofi reminded me of it later on, I found myself loving the idea of revisiting the 80’s. It’s been a blast remembering my teenage years from that wild decade. The music, the colors, the clothes, the hairdos! This play begs the question to each of us of where our moral ground stands, where we draw our line in the proverbial sand. We hope to inspire each of you into dialogue afterwards on these questions. I’ve loved this journey with my cast and crew.... I hope you have as much fun as we did putting this evening of theatre together for you... Ronnie Marmo Artistic Director The 68 Cent Crew Theatre Company Cast Crew In order of appearance. I was part of a terrific cast in an independent film that, unfortunately never truly saw the light of day. Sometimes that happens. All the effort and work and money spent is for naught. Written by Todd Alcott and Gary Auerbach (who also directed), I couldn’t get this film out of my mind, always feeling it had potential to rise again in some other form. These days it’s pretty common to see a theater piece based on a film. Usually that happens because the film was a hit and the hope is that that success will carry over to the stage. For years, I stayed in touch with the writers and they generously encouraged my pursuing this obsession, giving me their permission and encouragement to remove, reshape, literally rewrite their script. I then shared with Darryl my dream of adapting the screenplay for the stage. Together, we sat down and worked to bring this to life. Sometimes inside stone there is a jewel waiting to be carved out. Hopefully, this play is polished and shines brightly enough for you to enjoy. ~ Jon Polito Jon Polito -- Writer Jon’s Theater Credits include starring on Broadway with Faye Dunaway in THE CURSE OF AN ACHING HEART and with Dustin Hoffman in the 1985 Tony award winning revival of DEATH OF A SALESMAN, which he also filmed for CBS. Having been born and raised in New York and New Jersey, and still having family there as many of our company members also do, I feel it very personally. It seems only fitting to let you all know of the relief organization that Theatre 68 has donated to, and encourage you to help in whatever way you can. After doing much research, I really believe in what The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is doing. Not to mention, Jeremy Luke (amazing long time Los Angeles 68 member) is very passionate about this organization as well. He grew up on Staten Island and MANY of his friends have lost tons because of this . . . including his own mother, as you can see in the photo above of the view outside of her house!
