YRE in Morocco
• A program in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
(Partnership agreement 2012-2015)
• The YRE program is intended for high school students. Under
the supervision of a teacher, these students become journalists
in the field and investigate issues related to the environment in
their region.
• They conduct their investigations on 7 major themes: waste,
energy, water, biodiversity, climate and the coast, solidarity.
• Each year, the best stories and the best photos are honored at
an awards regional ceremony.

1200 written reports and 3500 photographs realized by more than
17.000 students spread across the 16 school districts;
127 winning works at the national level and 17 which have received
international recognition;

• An exhibition named “another glance to the environment” presenting all
awarded contributions from 2002, in the National Library of Morocco in Rabat ;

The Forum met YRE objectives:
Investigate:
• All participants were able to discuss the key roles of different sectors in the awareness
and education on responsible consumption and production.
Propose solution & Report to a local audience:
• Practical recommendations to promote responsible consumption and production have
been defined at the end of the forum by participants and integrated in “Livre Blanc du
Développement Durable au Maroc : bilan et perspectives », document presented at
the Earth Summit Rio +20.
Participants’ recommendations have been implemented in YRE action plan 2012-2013.

Workshops/ Implication of local Actors:
Local Media
Represented by a local journalist and photographer, member of the local committee, play
the role of presenting and explaining to students techniques used in reporting and
photography's.
Networking actions
Regional and provincial coordinators from different regions present cases of success
stories: valuable opportunities to exchange information, experiences and best practices.
Agenda of the workshop
Workshop will focus on theoretical presentations followed by practical session animated
by the local media.

• In print, radio, television, and online journalist;
• Experts in Environment;
• Representative from the Ministry of Education;
Role:
• Ensure the fonctionning of the program;
• Follow-up and accompaniment of high school students in workshops and local
